Bassett Healthcare Network announced the elimination of around 100 positions, the majority were administrative. Patient care would not be affected by the layoffs, which represent 2% of their total workforce.

The Delaware County Board of Supervisors & New York City have to come to an agreement to stop New York City from buying up more land in the watershed region, Shelly Johnson Bennett of the Delaware County Planning Department told WCDO News how the agreement works for both sides:

Johnson Bennett said this was an important step after the 1997 Watershed Agreement, where the City wound up buying for more land that was originally agreed upon, & it gives Delaware County more options for growth than they have had in decades.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced Today, the creation of the SUNY Top 10% Promise Program, which will allow students in the top 10% of their class, who meet other applicable criteria, to be automatically accepted to select SUNY schools. Students would be able to sign a consent form allowing their school to share their academic info with SUNY, with no application, essay, or fees. The inaugural 2025 roll-out includes 9 SUNY schools, including SUNY Oneonta.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 3 people following the execution of a search warrant in the Town of Laurens. 31 year old Ronald Neu of Laurens was charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition Feeding Devices. 21 year old Christopher Beech, was arrested on an outstanding warrant , as was 23 year old Alyssa Jones, & 20 year old Rafail Tsiraouglou. Deputies & Oneonta Police executed a search warrant, all individuals were detained for further investigation, Beech and Jones were turned over to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police respectively, Tsiraouglou was turned over to Immigration Officials. Weapons & narcotics were seized, Neu was lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant in Endicott, they arrested 25 year old Jahmeek Bey Jones, for 7 felonies relating to possessing narcotics, items used to sell drugs & weapons, police seized Methamphetamines, Cocaine, scales, packaging materials & A loaded semi-automatic handgun with a high-capacity magazine, that reported stolen in Pennsylvania. Bey Jones was transported Central Arraignment Part Court and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office announced that the South Abington Police Department in Pennsylvania located & arrested Donald Shurock, who is being held in the Lackawanna County Jail pending his extradition back to New York. Shurock was wanted since last week, he had been located in a vehicle by a deputy, resisted arrested and fled the scene on foot, the Deputy was treated & released for injuries sustained in trying to arrest Shurock. Shurock is wanted on the initial warrant plus Assault of a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest.

The Delaware County Board of Supervisors will have an official ribbon cutting ceremony at the new DPW Administration Building at 2 Bridge Street in Delhi at 12:00 PM Today. The new office building houses the DPW administrative staff along with the Planning and Watershed Affairs offices. Remaining on Page Avenue in Delhi is the DPW material storage yard, the fueling station, the bridge fabrication shop and the salt shed. The new patrol building in Bloomville will allow for greater access to roads in the northern part of the county for maintenance and snow removal. The new mechanics facility in the Town of Walton will be for car and heavy equipment repair.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 41 year old Benjamin Bishop of Otselic for reckless endangerment, two counts of unlawful fleeing, and one count of resisting arrest. The Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a road rage incident after a caller reported that Bishop’s Van ran a vehicle off the road in Sherburne, additional calls described Bishop cutting off and tailgating other vehicles, he was located in Norwich, deputies attempted a traffic stop, he failed to comply, struck multiple vehicles and his vehicle became disabled, he fled on foot but was taken into custody after a taser was deployed. Bishop was also charged with numerous traffic citations & faces court action at a later date.

A recall of hundreds of frozen waffles and other toaster foods has been expanded, by TreeHouse Foods for possible listeria contamination. The company has recalled frozen waffles, Belgian waffles and pancakes sold in stores such as Dollar General, Target and Walmart. Consumers should throw away the products or return them to stores for a refund.

The State DMV warns customers to be cautious of car sales on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist and similar sites. The advisory comes after a rise in stolen vehicles, including cars with altered ID numbers and forged titles. Investigations revealed that, as of October 15th there were 228 stolen vehicles worth $6.35 million recovered by the DMV, with 149 purchased by victims from these online platforms.

The State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for September, The State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held constant at 4.4% in September 2024. Locally, Chenango County had 2.7% unemployment, Delaware County 3.2% & Otsego County had 2.9% in September.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 48 year old Noel Wildey following an execution of an eviction in the Town of Masonville. Last Wednesday, members of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Civil Division were conducting an eviction at a residence in the Town of Masonville, where Wildey failed to provide his proper name and date of birth, giving several false names, it was discovered that Wildey had an active Arrest Warrant out of the State of Pennsylvania. Wildey was charged on the warrant & for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Obstruction of Governmental Administration, he was held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility to for arraignment.

Secretary of State Walter Mosley today announced the completion of the $19 million Dietz Street mixed-use housing development as part of the Oneonta Downtown Revitalization Initiative, which includes the new Hartwick College Baking Innovation Lab:

2 new laws went into effect in New York State over the weekend, that will impact how healthcare providers obtain consent to payment and collect payments from patients. Healthcare providers Must collect consent for payment separate from consent to receive healthcare services; & they are prohibited from requiring credit card pre-authorization or requiring a patient’s credit card be kept on file prior to the delivery of emergency or medically necessary services, & they Must notify patients of the risks of using credit cards to pay for healthcare services.

US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced over $27 Million Dollars in federal funding for the Delaware County Electric Cooperative, which provides electricity to over 5,000 families, farms, and local businesses in Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, and Schoharie Counties. The Delaware County Cooperative will lead a partnership composed of 6 small electric cooperatives across 3 states to increase grid resilience against outages caused by weather events and tree damage caused by invasive species. The Cooperative will deploy advanced software to enable proactive grid management, as well as hardware such as grid sensors and drones to provide real-time data and monitoring capabilities.

The Delaware County Board of Elections announced that the ballot drop box previously outside the Board of Elections Office at 97 Main Street in Delhi, has been removed. Officials stated that It was taken down by maintenance in response to a directive from the chair of the Board of Supervisors, Tina Mole, citing security issues and a contentious election. Anyone who received an absentee or early vote by mail ballot who prefers not to return it by mail can deliver it to the Board of Elections office during normal business hours, from 8:30AM to 4:00 PM, and during some extended hours during early voting being held at our Delhi Office, October 28 through November 3. Absentee/early mail ballots can also be delivered to any poll site on Election Day, November 5th.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 36 year old Brian Worden of Sidney following an investigation into medications not being taken properly in the Otsego County Correctional Facility. Worden was charged with Attempted Promoting Prison Contraband when he failed to take his prescribed medication properly and attempted to remove the medication from the medication room but was caught by a Correctional Officer, he was issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.

Park visitors generated $5.8 billion in sales, $2.5 billion in labor income, for every $1 million invested in parks results in $10 million in sales, $4 million in labor income, and $7 million in state GDP. Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 37 year old Tyrell Adams of Pittsfield on a number of charged following an investigation. Adams was charged with 3 counts of Sexual Abuse, Forcible Touching, 3 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Animal Cruelty & Criminal Contempt. Investigation revealed that over the course of several years, Adams allegedly subjected minors to persistent sexual abuse, Additionally he is accused of killing a family pet near children. Otsego County Family Court issued an order of protection against Adams prohibiting contact with multiple protected parties, he then sent Facebook messages to one of the protected parties. Adams was sent to the Otsego County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 29 year old Eugene Buzie of Unadilla for multiple sex offense charges following an investigation. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office announces the addition of charges in to the investigation involving Buzie, On July 19th he was arrested by investigators for multiple sex offense related charges. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the defendant did request, receive and possess a sexual performance by a child through online sources & was charged additionally with Possession of Sexual Performance by a child, Buzie was still incarcerated on the previous charges, he was produced from the Oneida County Correctional Facility to be processed on the new charge, at the Otsego County Correctional Facility and he was returned to the Oneida County Correctional Facility with an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Unadilla Court at a later date.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking for 40 year old Donald Shurock Jr. A Chenango County Deputy was called to a State Highway 26 in Pitcher Thursday for a suspicious vehicle complaint, the Deputy identified one of the occupants as Shurock, who has active warrants for his arrest. Shurock resisted arrest and fled the scene on foot, causing the Deputy to sustain physical injury. The Deputy was transported to a local hospital and was treated & released. Shurock is described as a white male, approximately 5’8” tall, weighing approximately 165 pounds, balding with short brown hair, brown beard and mustache, wearing a black winter hat, blue/gray Carhartt jacket, jeans, and boots. In addition to the active arrest warrants, Shurock is now wanted on charges of Assault on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest. Springbrook will receive $5 million from Tom Golisano as part of a $360 million donation to over 80 nonprofit organizations. In 2010, Golisano provided funds to establish the Golisano School, which expanded services for children with autism. 23 year old Nalya Jimenez of Sidney pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court Tuesday to 1 count of Welfare Fraud, she was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge. Jimenez admitted to providing false information while applying for SNAP, she failed to report recurring income from several sources – including a full-time position that would have rendered her ineligible to receive the benefits. Jimenez improperly received $5,679 in public benefits, she has agreed to pay the entirety of $5,679 in 30 days of sentence. If she fails to pay, she could face a year in jail.

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce will have their annual dinner & Awards Ceremony starting at 5:30 pm today at the Meredith Inn at Stonewall. The Business of the Year is Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals and Chamber President Ray Pucci said that his favorite award is the one honoring successful new businesses, which is the Rising Star Awards:

Governor Kathy Hochul joined Superintendent Steven G. James in honoring 181 new State Troopers as they graduated today from the 215th session of the Basic School of the New York State Police Academy. The ceremony was held at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany. Today’s graduation increases the State Police ranks to 5,183 sworn members. 46 of the new troopers will be assigned to Troop C in Sidney.

The State Department of Labor announced that the number of private sector jobs in the State decreased over the month by 2,900, or less than 0.1%, to 8,392,500 in September 2024. The State’s unemployment rate held constant at 4.4% in September, the statewide labor force participation rate decreased from .1 to 61.2% in September.

Village of Greene officials announced that starting at 8:30 Friday morning, the Village Department of Public Works will be paving South Chenango Street from Greene Bowlodrome to Page Street. There will be no thru traffic, when that paving project is complete, the DPW will be paving Clinton Street from Birdsall Street to the Birdsall Street bridge.

The State Police Academy 215th Graduation, will be held this morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany. 181 new Troopers will be honored for their perseverance and dedication in completing the 215th session of the Basic School of the New York State Police Academy during the graduation exercises.

34 year old Khaalid Lammie of Delhi was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury & was charged with 3 counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance. Lammie is accused of selling cocaine in the Village of Delhi on 3 occasions earlier this year, if he is convicted, he faces up to 9 years in state prison for each count, he was arraigned in Delaware County Court Tuesday & was released on his own recognizance.

State tax receipts totaled $54.6 billion through the first 6 months of State Fiscal Year 24-25, about $682 million higher than the state Division of the Budget estimated. Tax collections were $3.1 billion higher than those through September 2023, according to the monthly State Cash Report released by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli.
