State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on US-20 in the town of Plainfield. Police stated that a 56 year old woman from Sherburne veered into the opposing lane & sideswiped a tractor trailer driven by an unidentified man from Westerlo. The woman was ejected from the vehicle and was transported to a Utica Hospital with serious injuries the truck driver was not injured despite hitting a utility pole. The road was closed for several hours for the clean up & accident reconstruction efforts & for the repair of downed power lines. the investigation is continuing.

State Police at Sidney arrested 66 year old Vickie Wright of Unadilla for felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle as well as Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. A traffic stop was initiated on Main Street in Unadilla, Wright failed Field Sobriety Tests, she was issued appearance tickets to the Unadilla Town Court on November 12, and released to a sober third party.

State Police arrested 39 year old Jason Katalinas of Sidney Center, for felony Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, plus Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Obstructing Governmental Administration. A Trooper on I- 88 in Unadilla went to check on a vehicle parked on the shoulder with its front driver side off, the Trooper arrested Katalinas, and his passenger, 33 year old Shane Katalinas of Unadilla, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Both were processed and were issued appearance tickets for town of Unadilla court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff’s deputies located a vehicle that was related to a 911 call and was being searched for by the Delhi Police Department. The driver, Charles Dieterich of Grand Gorge, was on parole at the time and he was found to be in possession of fentanyl, meth, buprenorphine, and cocaine. Dieterich was charged with 4 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, His passenger, Nevaeh Ballard of Roxbury, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, for possessing cocaine. Both were released on appearance tickets and will appear in court at a later time, Dieterich was further referred to State Parole for possible revocation hearings.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27 year old Joshua Hunt of Unadilla on an Arrest Warrant from the Town of Middlefield Court for failure to update the sex offender registry. Hunt was charged with Sex Offender Failure to Register updates beyond the 10 day limit, & Sex Offender Failure to update photo, Hunt was held for arraignment.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 59 year old John Williams of Edmeston after he attempted to flee a traffic stop. Williams was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, Unlawful fleeing a Police Officer, DWI, & various traffic violations. Williams failed to stop for deputies, he fled & eventually lost control of his motorcycle in a cornfield, he was not injured but was found to be in possession of a controlled substance, & he is accused of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a drug. Williams will appear in the Town of Edmeston Court at a later date.

State Attorney General Letitia James & 13 other state attorneys general have teamed up to sue TikTok claiming that the social media platform damages mental health for children, because they follow dangerous trends, it can cause sleep deprivation, depression, and anxiety. The lawsuit also claims that TikTok violates privacy laws by collecting data from kids under 13 without consent.

Sidney Police Department arrested 51 year old Michael Theill of Sidney Thursday after they conducted a search warrant at 50 East Main Street. During the execution of the search warrant, officers located a 9mm handgun & methamphetamine, Theill was charged with Criminal Possession Of A Weapon, & Criminal Possession Of Controlled Substance With Intent To Sell & Criminal Nuisance, he was processed and arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $50,000 Bail. Sidney Police Department were assisted by State Police and the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.

State Police arrested 26 year old Danny Clark of Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, after a traffic stop on Main Street in Unadilla. Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that 65 New York National Guard Soldiers and Airmen have been deployed to Florida to assist the Florida National guard in responding to Hurricane Milton. The New York National Guard will deploy to Jacksonville, Florida. The New York National Guard currently has 48 Soldiers and Airmen deployed, including Army engineers and CH-47F Chinook heavy lift helicopters on storm response missions in North Carolina.

State Police will step up efforts to combat speeding and impaired driving during Columbus Day Weekend. The Speed and Impaired Driving Enforcement Initiative aims to reduce the number of incidents caused by dangerous driving behaviors like Speeding, driving impaired by alcohol and/or drugs, which accounts from about 1/3 of all fatal crashes. State Police remind motorists to Obey the speed limit, designate a sober driver, or plan for a ride share to get home safely, always wear seat-belts and do not drive distracted.

23 year old Dakota Mann of Walton pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court Monday to 3rd degree Assault & Criminal Contempt. On May 17, 2024, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence in Walton for an ongoing domestic, where the caller & 1 other person claimed to have been assaulted by Mann, who violated an order of protection. Mann was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility. On July 1, 2024, while incarcerated, Mann assaulted & injured a fellow inmate, Mann was additionally charged with 2nd degree Assault. Mann faces sentencing on December 9th to 1 1/2 to 3 years in state prison for Criminal Contempt, and 1 year for Assault.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 35 year old Richie Rodriguez of Bronx for Criminal Possession of Stimulant, Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and a host of traffic tickets following an investigation after a traffic stop on State Highway 7 in the Town of Otego. Rodriguez was processed and held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending Arraignment.

A man and a woman were arrested in an assault on former Governor David Paterson and his stepson, Friday Night in New York City. Paterson & Anthony Sliwa were treated for minor injuries, 2 adults, a 12 year old & a 13 year old were all charged with gang assault and assault.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol observed motorcycle without a license plate on I-81, a traffic Stop was initiated, the operator failed to comply onto Colesville Road to State Route 17, the motorcycle eventually had a mechanical failure and came to a stop. 29 year old Trae Salisbury of Binghamton had an unsecured dog on his lap throughout the pursuit, deputies secured the dog and placed Salisbury under arrest for Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Carrying an Animal in a Cruel Manner & Numerous traffic violations. Salisbury was processed at the Broome County Sheriff’s Office and issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Kirkwood Court. The dog was transported back to its owner.

Otsego County Sheriff’s office arrested 33 year old Schuyler Schmidt of Garratsville following an investigation of a structure fire in the Town of New Lisbon. Schmidt was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Arson, Criminal Mischief in connection with a structure fire of a garage owned by a relative, multiple area Fire Departments responded, investigators located approximately thirteen vehicles & Machinery sustained significant damage or had become a total loss. Upon Arrested, Schmidt allegedly possessed methamphetamine, he was held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending arraignment.

Governor Kathy Hochul today extended the application deadline for homeowners to apply for emergency repair grants for the July and August 2024 extreme weather events across the state. Funds are available to eligible homeowners flood or insurance coverage or other forms of disaster recovery funds insufficient. Locally Delaware County Residents who had damage from the severe weather of August 9th & 10th are eligible, more information on the program, is available on HCR’s website: hcr.ny.gov. The application deadline has now been extended to Friday, November 8.

52 year old Shannon Finch of Margaretville was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury & was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. The indictment alleges that on May 5 in a hotel room in Fleischmanns, Finch, possessed methamphetamine, he was previously arraigned in the Town of Middletown Town Court where he was released on his own recognizance, he faces up to 5 1/2 years in state prison and 2 years of post-release supervision if convicted.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol observed a vehicle reported missing from the Town of Fenton. The vehicle had pulled into a driveway in Binghamton when the patrol activated their emergency lights. The vehicle then accelerated into the yard, driving through a fence into the yard of a residence on State St in an attempt to escape police. The vehicle had struck a building, the occupants fled on foot. The female passenger, 21 year old Hailey Blank was located and taken into custody, 20 year old Rodney McCormick, was located & arrested, he was charged with Criminal Mischief, Reckless Endangerment, Obstruction of Governmental Administration & Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Blank was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Obstruction of Governmental Administration. McCormick and Blank were turned over the Binghamton Police to answer for multiple warrants, both were remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.

19 year old Lamont Weaver of Binghamton, and an 18-year-old adolescent offender from Binghamton, pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Weapon in Broome County Court. On April 27th, Weaver was involved in a shooting in Binghamton, at sentencing on October 25, 2024, Weaver is expected to receive a sentence of up to 8 years in New York State Prison, along with up to 5 years of post-release supervision. On August 18th, the adolescent offender was involved in shooting in Binghamton, firing several rounds at people during a dispute. the adolescent faces 6 years in State Prison, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision.

59 year old Dolores Barse, also known as Dolores Hurlburt of Sidney appeared in Delaware County Court last week & pleaded guilty to Welfare Fraud, she is accused of providing false information while applying for SNAP and HEAP benefits, she claimed to have no income despite being employed. Barse improperly received $14,203 in public benefits that she was not entitled to, she will be ordered to pay the money back to the Delaware County Department of Social Services.

A Car Seat Safety Check will be held in Oneonta tomorrow at the Home Depot on Route 28 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The event is co-sponsored by The Otsego County Health Department, Sheriff’s Department, AAA & the Governor’s Traffic safety Committee.

On Tuesday, the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force attempted to execute a narcotics search warrant at a residence and vehicle in the Town of Sanford. 39 year old Scott Lord of Deposit, fled the scene in a vehicle, leading law enforcement on a lengthy pursuit into Pennsylvania. As deputies and Pennsylvania State Police responded to seize the vehicle, Lord was found to still be in the vehicle and he fled the parking lot, striking a Broome County patrol car and another vehicle, Vehicle tire deflation devices were successfully deployed and Lord crashed into a creek. Lord was arrested for Attempted Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Reckless Endangerment, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, The Wayne County District Attorney has also announced several felony charges.

The Norwich High School Sports Hall of Fame will hold their 12th induction ceremony this weekend, spokesman Rich Turnbull told WCDO News about this year’s Hall of Fame inductees:
