30 year old Shelby Ortiz of the town of Maryland, pleaded guilty to distributing child pornography in federal court. Ortiz admitted to having sexual contact with a 7-month-old boy and sending it to someone else electronically. Ortiz is scheduled to be sentenced in February & could face 10 to 20 years in prison if convicted. .

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fentanyl overdose that occurred at the jail last Friday. The unidentified 34-year-old inmate was found by a correctional officer, 1st aid was administered, the inmate was taken to Wilson Regional Medical Center for further medical attention. The investigation into the incident is continuing.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 26 year old Kynisha Atkinson of Oneonta following a recent traffic stop in the Town of Oneonta. Atkinson was found to be operating a motor vehicle on a public highway with a suspended registration on September 25th, she will appear in Town of Oneonta court at a later date.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced more than $246 million from FEMA to support counter-terrorism and emergency preparedness efforts across New York. The New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services manages the programs with local stakeholders, locally Chenango & Otsego Counties will receive over $93,000, Delaware County over $85,000 and Broome County over $311,000.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29-year-old Osman Mendoza-Garcia of Scranton, Pennsylvania, on October 1st, after Deputies responded to a 2-car accident on State Highway 10. The investigation found that Mendoza-Garcia was following another north bound vehicle that was attempting to make a turn, he was unable to stop. Mendoza-Garcia was driving with a suspended driver’s license, he was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and Following too Closely, he was released with appearance tickets made returnable to the Town of Tompkins Court at a later date.

State Police arrested 31year old Jesse Sklenarik of Oneonta, for Attempted Petty Larceny, after a trooper was dispatched to a report of a larceny in progress at Certified Auto. When the trooper arrived, an employee was holding down Sklenarik after he allegedly attempted to cut the catalytic converter off a vehicle on their property. Sklenarik was released on an appearance ticket to the Oneonta Town Court on October 18th.

The Northeast Classic Car Museum will have their annual drawing today, for someone to win a 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible, valued at about $30,000. Tickets have been sold for several months, the event is one of the key fundraisers for the museum, last year’s winner was Rick Hulse of Cooperstown.

On Sunday, New York State extended the Executive Order to continue to maximize the resources available to protect New Yorkers against polio through vaccination. So far. Only 1 case of polio has been identified, but ongoing wastewater surveillance provides evidence of repeated polio-virus detections in sewage samples throughout the state. The latest wastewater results in Brooklyn & Queens, tested by CDC, found samples genetically linked to the case original case in Rockland County. Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 40 year old Christopher Lacey of Downsville for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, following an investigation into a motor vehicle accident on October 5th on River Road in the Town of Colchester. Deputies reported that the driver left the scene, Walton Police located Lacey, who’s driving privileges were revoked for refusing to submit to a chemical test. Lacey was issued an appearance ticket for the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

44 of New York State’s 62 counties are already reporting cases of the flu, according to the state Health department. Health officials encourage New Yorkers to get the flu vaccine, with the flu starting a little earlier than normal, and especially as high rates of COVID 19 are still being reported statewide. New York Attorney General Letitia James took action today to maintain the Concealed Carry Improvement Act, after a federal judge granted a temporary restraining order last week. James said that the Act was passed by the State Legislature and was enacted this summer, with requirements for concealed carry permits, prohibits guns in sensitive places, requires individuals with concealed carry permits to request a property owner’s consent to carry on their premises, enhances safe storage requirements, requires social media review ahead of certain gun purchases, and requires background checks on all ammunition purchases.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 42 year old Kory Minshall of Burlington Flats in Morris October 1st. Minshall was pulled over and was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance for Methamphetamines, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance, along with several other similar charges, he was also wanted on an active warrant out of Otsego County Family Court and had a suspended driver’s license. Minshall is being held in the Otsego County Jail on the Family Court warrant. He will appear in the Town of Morris Court on a later date.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 21 year old Dylan Rulison of Johnstown, following an investigation of a motor vehicle accident with a stolen vehicle in Montgomery County. Rulison was arrested by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office on several charges, the vehicle had been stolen from the Town of Worcester, he was charged in Otsego County with Grand Larceny and Unauthorized use of a Motor Vehicle, he was released & will appear in the Town of Worcester Court on October 11th.

2 teenager were shot outside of the home of Congressman and Republican candidate for governor Lee Zeldin, in Shirley in Suffolk County Sunday afternoon. The 2 teenage boys were taken to area hospitals, they had been walking with a third teenager when they were hit by gunfire from a moving car. The wounded teens hid under his porch and into the bushes, while the 3rd person fled the scene. Zeldin & his wife were in the Bronx campaigning at the time of the shooting, their teenage daughters locked themselves inside & called police

The Otsego County District Attorney’s office is investigating the death of an infant in Laurens last Tuesday. An autopsy will be conducted, the investigation is continuing.

The State DEC issued an update on drought conditions across the state. The State’s Drought Management Task Force updated the drought status to “Normal” from “Drought Watch” for multiple regions including most of upstate New York because of recent rainfall and higher levels of ground and surface water. State Police responded to I-88 westbound near exit 13 in the town of Oneonta Tuesday night at about 6:00 PM for a report of a car carrier on fire. Members of the Oneonta Fire Department extinguished the fire. Damage was primarily around the passenger side rear axle; some of the trailer and cargo was damaged. The driver was not injured, the right lane was closed until about 9:30 pm.

The Hartwick College Women’s Field Hockey Team has been conducting fundraising efforts for the Trinity O’Connor Foundation, named after 6 year old Trinity O’Connor of Sidney who died earlier this year after a battle with cancer. The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that 33 year old Kevin Cochrane was sentenced to 3 years in prison followed by 6 years of post-release supervision, for attempted use of a child less than 17 years of age in a sexual performance. Cochrane was taken to the Broome County Jail after sentencing in Broome County Court, he will be transferred over to a state correctional facility.

The New York State Department of Health proposed regulations for 23 additional emerging contaminants in drinking water in the State Register today, which then starts a 60-day public review and comment period. The proposed regulations would set new drinking water standards, or maximum contaminant levels, for 4 additional hazardous chemicals, requiring public water systems to reduce levels under the requirements. The proposed rules would also require testing, reporting, and public notification for 19 additional PFAS compounds. The proposed regulations appear at dos.ny.gov/state-register, the public will until December 5th to review and comment

In the month of September, members State Police from Troop “C” removed 53 impaired drivers off the roadways. 2 of those impaired drivers also had a child under the age of 15 in the vehicle with them, 15 of those drivers were more than double the legal limit, 12 of those drivers were under the influence of drugs, 3 of those drivers were previously convicted of DWI within the last 10 years

Chobani has increased pay for their workers in South Edmeston. The company says wages are increasing anywhere between 20% and 30% for their hourly manufacturing employees, that means starting salary will now be $18.50 per hour. The average salary at the business is $23.50.

A Windsor man has pleaded guilty to Robbery in the 3rd degree. According to the Broome County District Attorney, Scott Frost admitted he stole a motorcycle and threatened to shoot the owner while he was on parole for a burglary in 2014 in Tioga County. Frost will be sentenced in December 2022 and faces two to four years.

Catholic Charities announced the results of Friday’s Community Mass Food Distribution in Sidney. Overall, 684 Households participated, with 1,669 People attending the distribution, 16,968 pounds of food were given out, 34 volunteers participated.

Several Area Fire Departments responded to a reported structure fire at 8 Pearl Street in Bainbridge last night. The fire was reported on the 2nd floor, local firefighters responded again this morning for a rekindle. No injuries have been reported.

The State Department of Labor announced the next steps in the state’s $15 minimum hourly wage phase-in. The minimum wage rate in local counties will rise by $1 per hour, from $13.20 to $14.20,on December 31st. The Division’s analysis found evidence of pressure for wages to rise in the midst of a continued pandemic-driven labor shortage.

The callers are identifying themselves as Chenango County Sheriff’s Office personnel and informing people by phone that they have an active arrest warrant and requesting gift cards be sent to rectify the outstanding warrant. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office personnel will never call to request money or gift cards for any criminal matters.

State Police are searching for 16 year old Connor McLean of Peru New York, who was last seen on September 27th, at 8:00 pm near his residence. McLean is approximately 5’10 feet tall, and weighs approximately 190 pounds, he was wearing blue hoodie, shorts, brown slippers with socks, & was carrying a black backpack. State Police are looking to identify 2 people in connection with a September 4th report of a wallet that was stolen from the Mount Upton Dollar General.. The wallet that was stolen from a cart, A woman is seen in surveillance video taking the wallet, a male is with her while at the store. The empty wallet was later found at a gas pump at Speedway at State Routes 7 and 8, & was turned in to the store by a patron, Anyone with information is asked to call State Police at (607)-561-7400, Pictures of the people in question can be viewed at the WCDO Facebook page.

State Police responded to a report that an 85-year-old woman with dementia left her residence on foot several hours prior and could not be located. An organized search was formed in the town of Andes. Troopers and New York State Police K9 were assisted by State Forest Rangers and Delhi Village Police. The woman was located deceased about a mile from her residence, There is no indication of any foul play.

State Department of Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon issued an order accepting the recommendation of the Farm Laborers Wage Board to lower the current 60-hour threshold for overtime pay to 40 hours per week by January 1, 2032, allowing 10 years to phase in the new threshold, following a 2-year process and 14 public meetings and hearings. Farm work in excess of 40 hours per week would be required to be compensated at overtime rates, as it is in other occupations.
