48 year old Nicholas Cartelli of Otego was sentenced in Delaware County Court Monday for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Cartelli was sentenced to 4 years in state prison and two years of post-release supervision. On January 3rd, State Police conducted a routine traffic stop after noticing a vehicle with no license plate lamps, and illegal license plates that weren’t registered to that vehicle. A search of Cartelli’s vehicle was conducted and Police seized heroin, cocaine, a scale, and ammunition from the vehicle.

47 Year old Marc Kimble of North Norwich was arrested Monday by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for Burglary and Grand Larceny, after Deputies responded to the Town of Plymouth for the report of a burglary, where a male subject had unlawfully entered the victims’ garage and stole property valued at over $1,000. After reviewing camera footage, Kimble was arrested in the City of Norwich & was taken into custody without incident. Kimble was transported to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for processing and was released on an appearance ticket to appear at the Town of Plymouth Court at a later date.

28 year old Joshua Hunt of Sidney pleaded guilty to Attempted Possession of a Forged Instrument in Delaware County Court. Hunt’s sentencing has been scheduled for September 23, 2025, where he will be sentenced to 1 and ½ to 3 years in state prison as a result of this conviction. On August 6, 2024, A Delaware County Deputy responded to a complaint regarding unauthorized withdrawals from a bank account not belonging to Hunt, also Unauthorized checks were printed with Hunt’s name as the recipient.

The State DEC announced that hunting and trapping licenses and Deer Management Permits for the 2025-26 season are now on sale. Licenses and permits can be purchased online, at any of DEC’s license-issuing agents, or by telephone at 866-933-2257. Hunting and trapping licenses are valid from Sept. 1 through Aug. 31 each year, while annual fishing licenses are valid for 365 days from date of purchase.

Leonard Wackowski of Buffalo was indicted by a Broome County Grand Jury on 1 count of 2nd degree Assault, following an incident on July 6, 2025, in the Town of Dickinson. 68 year old Carlos Chaluisant was walking to his vehicle following a umpiring a baseball game when Wackowski approached him and began yelling at him about calls made during the game, he allegedly swept Chaluisant’s legs out from under him, causing him to fall to the ground, he then allegedly mounted the victim on the ground and struck him, causing physical injury. Wackowski was arraigned in Broome County Court and he remains in the custody of the Broome County Jail.

State Police, the FBI and the State Intelligence Center, have arrested 50 year old Edward Connors of Endicott for making racially motivated threats directed at federal government employees. State Police received information that Connors made multiple threatening social media posts targeting current and former federal employees who are African American, Connors was located at his residence and taken into custody without incident, He was processed and taken to the Broome County Jail for arraignment after being charged with Making a Terroristic Threat as a Hate Crime. Former Oneida County Corrections Officer Christopher Walrath was sentenced to 15 years in State Prison, in connection with the death of inmate Robert Brooks at the Marcy Correctional Facility last December. Walrath had pleaded guilty to Manslaughter as part of a plea bargain deal in Oneida County Court, the plea offer nullifies the original murder charge and results in a lesser prison term, instead of the potential 25 years to life.

Binghamton Police charged 37 year-old Donald Beetlestone with attempted kidnapping, assault, forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child, he is accused of striking a young girl with a bottle in a Binghamton Price Chopper on Glenwood Avenue Friday evening and attempted to forcibly remove her from the store. Police reported that a female employee heard the struggle and intervened in an attempt to stop Beetlestone, a male customer physically restrained Beetlestone until police arrived. The unidentified 8 year old victim girl suffered a gash on her forehead as a result of the assault, Beetlestone is being held pending future court action.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant in Binghamton Thursday, at 54 Rotary Avenue, they arrested Felix Califano on a variety of drug charges. Officers seized ammunition, a 12-gauge shotgun, $7,340 in cash from suspected drug proceeds, plus cocaine & Items used for packaging, cutting and weighing narcotics, Califano of Binghamton was brought to the Binghamton Police Department for processing.

State Police and local EMS responded to a 2 vehicle crash Thursday evening at about 7:00 PM, at State Highway 8 and State Highway 7 in the town of Bainbridge. an SUV driven by 79 year old John Kessler of Afton went through a steady red light into the path of a tractor trailer driven by 61 year old Neal Jorgensen of Guilford, he was unable to avoid striking the SUV. Kessler was taken to Wilson Medical Center, while Jorgensen was brought to AO Fox Hospital Tri-Town in Sidney. Injuries were not life threatening.

State Police announced that Trooper Anna Aulino of the Troop C Margaretville barracks, was released from the hospital Friday, her vehicle was was struck by a vehicle head-on in Delhi on July 11th as she was driving home after her shift, she suffered serious injuries. 71-year-old Roger Hadley of Andes was operating a pick-up truck when he crossed over the double solid yellow line into Trooper Aulino’s personal vehicle, he was pronounced deceased on scene.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 42 year old Bobbie Jo Davis of Marathon on a variety of charges, after she hit a deer with her vehicle & is accused of being intoxicated at the time. Deputies responded Wednesday night to State Route 79 in the town of Lisle, where Davis left the scene before they arrived, witnesses reported that she was driving erratically & the car had heavy front end damage. after being placed into custody she was belligerent to officers, she was charged with DWI, Reckless Endangerment, Resisting Arrest, Escape, Obstruction of Governmental Administration as well as 12 Traffic Violations, she was arraigned and was was released pending future court action.

Local government sales tax collections totaled $11.9 billion in the first half of 2025, an increase of 3.7% compared to last year, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. 86% of counties experienced a year-over-year increase in first-half collections, with Hamilton County seeing the highest growth at 14.6%, followed by the counties of Delaware (12.9%), Orleans (12.1%) and Chenango (11.7%). Nearly 75% of cities outside of New York City that impose their own sales tax experienced growth in the first half, with Norwich having the largest increase at 19.3%.

The horse is a neutered male, He is grey with flecks of red and has a darker muzzle. 20 Attorney’s General including New York State, are suing the Trump Administration over its efforts to obtain data from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP. According to the lawsuit, the Department of Agriculture is improperly attempting to gather sensitive personal information from low-income families who use the program, including social security numbers and home addresses. New York Attorney General Letitia James reported that it was not the 1st time this administration has tried to use federal agencies to access Americans’ personal data, recently a federal judge declined to stop the IRS from sharing sensitive taxpayer information with federal immigration authorities.

The FBI announced that 44 year old Brent Trimbell of Hobart was arrested Sunday evening for sexual exploitation of a child. Trimbell is accused of exchanging sexually explicit messages with a female child victim, persuading her to create and send him videos of her engaged in sexually explicit conduct, having sexual contact with the victim at least 3 times and sending the victim sexually explicit videos. Trimbell was charged by state authorities with state sex offenses, but last week he was released on bail. If convicted, Trimbell faces 15 to 30 years in Jail, a term of supervised release of at least 5 years to life after serving a prison term, register as a sex offender, pay a fine of $250,000, forfeiture of property used to commit the offenses, and he would have to pay restitution to the victim. FBI officials worked with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Attorney’s Office, Trimbell was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshals Service pending further proceedings.

State Police are investigating a death of a 16-year-old female following a medical emergency on Saturday, a Trooper responded to a residence on State Route 41 in McGraw, for an unresponsive juvenile, she was unconscious & CPR was already in progress, she was taken to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center & was pronounced deceased a short time later. An investigation by the State Police BCU is ongoing, more information will be released following an autopsy.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that $25 million in State funding has been awarded to enhance safety, modernize operations, promote environmental resilience and enhance regional economic competitiveness at airports across New York. Sidney Police Department received a fraud complaint, where teh vicitm was scammed by an elaborate scheme to defraud and had already lost $57,000. The scammers were able to gain the trust of the victim by posing as a Microsoft computer virus technician and a bank fraud technician, Police learned that the victim was being directed to withdraw another large sum of money by the scammers, Sidney Police & the State Police BCI unit set up a sting operation, which led to the arrested of 42 year old Xueyu Luo of New York City into custody. Luop was charged Grand larceny, Tampering with physical evidence, Scheme to defraud, Resisting arrest and Obstruction of governmental administration, Luo was processed & was transported to the Delaware County Jail to await arraignment, He was released on his own recognizance to appear back in court at a later date. The investigation is ongoing.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested Christopher Ingraham of Pittsfield, for Assault, Attempted Assault, Reckless Endangerment, Reckless Driving, Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol as well as several other related charges, following an investigation into a personal injury motor vehicle/ assault complaint in the Town of Pittsfield. Deputies determined that Ingraham struck 3 individuals with his vehicle attempting to break up a physical altercation, 2 were transported to a local hospital for their injuries, he was taken into custody without incident and was processed and was turned over to the Jail pending Centralized Arraignment.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 28 year old Gabriel Jensen of Oneonta for DWI, driving with a BAC of .08% or More of Alcohol, Failure to Keep Right, and other related charges, following the investigation of a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Hartwick. Jensen is accused of operating the vehicle while intoxicated, he was processed and released on Traffic Tickets.

Norwich Police Detectives successfully concluded an investigation Wednesday into the distribution of counterfeit U.S. currency and the illegal sale and possession of controlled substances, including fentanyl and methamphetamine. Police arrested 34 year old Zachary England of Norwich, for 1 count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, 18 counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, plus Tampering with Physical Evidence among other charges, England was found in possession of $1,800 in cash upon arrest, along with fentanyl and methamphetamine. England was arraigned and was held without bail due to prior felony convictions, the investigation remains ongoing.

Sidney Police Department responded to a domestic dispute Saturday at a residence on West Main Street, where a man was destroying property. Officers located 45 year old Arthur Cotten in the garage, he began dousing the floor and the garage with gasoline, Officers attempted to stop him, he was able to ignite the gas can with a lighter, Officers were able to physically restrain Cotten and pull him and themselves away from the fire, which was quickly extinguished. Cotten was charged with Aggravated family offense, Reckless endangerment, Attempted Arson, Criminal possession of a weapon, Attempted Assault, Criminal mischief, Resisting arrest, Menacing and Obstruction of governmental administration, Cotten was arraigned at the Delaware County Central Arraignment court where he was released on $1000 cash bail to appear back in court at a later date.

Aaron Mosley of Binghamton was sentenced in Broome County Court to the maximum allowable sentence following his conviction for Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. Mosley was sentenced to 2 years in the Broome County Correctional Facility and was ordered to pay $5,114.25 to the Broome County Humane Society. The investigation revealed that during the months of February through May 2024 Mosley had confined numerous dogs outside and in a garage of his residence, where they were found living in their own feces, malnourished, and without adequate access to food, water, or shelter.

30 year old Kenneth Dillmann of Hobart, pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court to Criminal Possession of a Weapon and was sentenced to 3 1/2 to 7 years of in prison. On January 12, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Buena Vista in Delhi for a suspicious person/drug complaint involving 2 vehicles, they conducted a search of a vehicle and located a loaded pistol in Dillmann’s backpack.
