Delaware County Business Alliance announced that Todd Pascarella has been named as the organization’s new President, replacing Ray Pucci, who has retired. Pascarella has been a Delaware County Chamber & Business Alliance member for many years, and served on the board of directors for 6 years including as the Board chairman, he is also the executive director of the Catskill Revitalization Corporation, which has been recently rebuilding and restarting the Delaware & Ulster Railroad and he was co-founder of Union Grove Distillery in Arkville, and once served as the mayor of the Village of Fleischmanns.

The 1st annual Sidney Brew-to-Brew 5K on Saturday, had 180 participants finish the race and they raised about $3,000 to benefit the Uplift Collective and the Delaware Valley Humane Society. 25 year old Jon Hendley, from Oneonta, was the first male finisher and 30-year-old Lauren Castelucci of Apalachin was the first female finisher, with a time of 20:20.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a domestic dispute recently in the Town of Meredith, it was determined that the physical domestic had occurred in the presence of children where it was alleged that the suspect closed a car door on the victim’s leg with the intent to cause injury. Deputies arrested of 32-year-old Troy Ladlee for 3rd degree Assault, Menacing, and 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Ladlee was processed and was arraigned and released. Ladlee was directed to appear in the Town of Meredith Court at a later date to answer the charges.

The Chenango County Historical Society and the Chenango County Historian’s Office will hold another “An America250 Conversation” as they seek input from the people of Chenango County on how local communities will participate in the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. Norwich Police arrested 43 year old Donald Craw of Delhi, following a vehicle pursuit Saturday that began in downtown and ended in a field off Chenango County Road l0A. At approximately 11:30 pm. officers attempted to stop a Craw’s motorcycle after observing multiple traffic violations, he failed to comply and led officers on a pursuit, where he ran stop signs, nearly struck another motorist, and reached speeds double the posted limit. Craw traveled across a field & abandoned the motorcycle and attempted to flee on foot, he was caught after a brief struggle, & was taken into custody, Police recovered a large quantity of methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl, along with drug packaging materials and a digital scale, he was wanted on multiple warrants, Craw was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Reckless Endangerment, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle & Resisting Arrest, he was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on no bail. Additional charges are expected.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle being operated by a driver known to have a suspended drivers license. Prior to conducting a traffic stop, Deputies observed the driver and the passenger switch seats. Upon conducting a traffic stop, Deputies observed drugs and paraphernalia in plain view & conducted a search of the vehicle, a quantity of crack cocaine and fentanyl was removed from the vehicle. Deputies arrested 23 year old Deanna Eignor of Hobart and 30 year old Dustin Roberts of Stamford for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, Both Eignor and Roberts were released on appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

DA Smith said that the most serious charge of 2nd degree Manslaughter carries a maximum sentence of 5 to 15 years in jail if Bellows is convicted.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 36 year old Gerald Walke of Walton for Promoting Prison Contraband. On August 23rd, Delaware County Corrections Division, reported that Walke received a prohibited item during visitation and intervened, The item was recovered and the visitor was removed from the facility. Walke was processed and issued an appearance ticket directing him to appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date to answer the charge.

On Friday, Delaware County Corrections Officers were conducting a search of 37 year-old Matthew McLean, of Delhi on unrelated Bail Jumping Charges, they located a crystal type substance folded into a one-dollar bill, which was revealed to be Methamphetamine. McLean was charged with Promoting Prison Contraband and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility om $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.

Governor Hochul has signed a new executive order to make COVID-19 vaccines more accessible to New Yorkers, which will allows pharmacists to prescribe and administer COVID-19 vaccines. The executive order will be effective for at least 30 days as a long-term legislative solution is developed.

Bellows was charged with Speeding, Driving While Intoxicated, Using a Cell Phone while Driving, Criminal Mischief, Vehicular Manslaughter and 2nd degree Manslaughter. Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 42 year old Christopher Romain of Edmeston and 41 year old Kristin Natterer of Edmeston, following an Animal Cruelty investigation. Romain was charged with 1 count of Torturing/Injuring/Failure to Provide Sustenance to Animals, while Natterer faces 11 counts. The Investigation revealed that the pair were housing numerous emaciated dogs at the residence The dogs were seized and the defendants were taken in to custody, were processed and issued Appearance Tickets returnable to the Town of Edmeston Court at a later date. All of the animals were turned over to the Susquehanna SPCA where they are currently receiving medical attention.

State Police BCI, the FBI and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, arrested 3 men following separate investigations targeting individuals using social media to entice minors to engage in sexual acts. State Police arrested 70 year old Ronald Wenzinger of Binghamton, for 2nd degree Attempted Rape Wenzinger was a Reverend at the United Methodist Church in Harpursville, he was turned over to the Broome County Jail for arraignment. State Police arrested 39 year old John Tedmark of Binghamton and 38 year old Juan Bolanoszul of Endicott, each for 2nd degree Attempted Rape, they were turned over to the Broome County Jail for arraignment. Anyone with information about crimes against children is encouraged to contact the State Police or their local law enforcement agency.

58 year old Paul Geer of Hancock, was sentenced to 27 years and 3 months in federal prison for 2 counts of coercing and enticing 2 children to travel across state lines to engage in unlawful sexual activity and 2 counts of transporting the children across state lines with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. Geer was found guilty in March following a 2-week trial, he was a teacher at the Family Foundation School in Hancock from 1994 through 2001 & he imposed extreme disciplinary sanctions on students & that Geer used his position of authority to coerce 2 students to travel with him to Maine and Toronto, Canada, with the intent to engage in unlawful sexual activity. A 3-year term of supervised release will follow Geer’s release from prison, he will be required to register as a sex offender.

With health insurance subsidies set to expire, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is urging her fellow members of Congress to include an extension of enhanced Affordable Care Act premium tax credits in any upcoming funding package, to help bring down the cost of premiums for low- and middle-income individuals and families in New York and across the country afford health care:

Governor Hochul announced that $200 million in funding is available through the State’s downtown revitalization and economic development programs; $100 million each for Round 9 of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative and Round 4 of the NY Forward program. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 49 year old Christopher Prosser of North Norwich for Disseminating indecent material to minor’s. Prosser is a registered sex offender, a complaint was filed that he was having a sexually motivated conversation with a teenaged female, while using an alias. Investigators discovered that Prosser sent a nude photo of himself and solicited the minor to do the same, he also made arrangements to meet up with the female for sexual relations. Prosser was taken into custody at his home without incident and transported to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for processing, he was arraigned & was held on $15,000 cash bond.

A new report identifies which States are investing most in manufactured housing as an alternative to existing homes. In New York State, 13.4% of all new single-family houses built were manufactured homes, the 13th highest share in the nation. New York State shipped 1,616 manufactured homes last year, and issued 10,453 permits for single-family site-built homes. Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 37 year old Nicolas Martinez of Milford has been arrested for Offering a False Instrument for Filing. Martinez was charged following an investigation into information he provided on paperwork submitted to the Otsego County Civil Office, a background investigation in to Martinez’s pistol permit application, found that he intentionally failed to disclose sensitive information required by law for the application, he was processed and released with an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.

The City of Norwich is one of this year’s Preserve New York grantees, they will receive $20,000 to fund the Broad Street-Main Street Historic District Nomination. The City’s district includes 21 contiguous buildings located between Main Street at the northern boundary to Hayes Street at the southern boundary. The Designation will update information from previously prepared National Register Nominations and encourage owners to invest in preserving and improving their historic buildings.

State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Detail Friday in Delaware County. 12 area business in Sidney, Masonville, Walton, Delhi, & Franklin were in compliance, 1 business was not in compliance, as an employee of Carroll and Carvers Wine and Spirits in Sidney was issued an appearance ticket for the violation for Prohibited Sale of Alcohol to a Person Under 21. During these investigations, businesses are checked utilizing a Trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or provide a false date of birth.

19 year old Jayden Aviles of Maryland, New York, appeared in Delaware County Court & pleaded guilty to 1 count of Criminally Negligent Homicide, On September 29, 2024, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched for a 1 car MVA into a house on State Route 23 in the Town of Davenport, they determined that Aviles was the driver of the vehicle and appeared to be impaired by drugs, his vehicle had hit 2 individuals in the house, with one suffering injuries and the other passing as a result of the crash. Sentencing will be held on November 18th.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office concluded the death investigation in the Town of Conklin that has been ruled a murder-suicide stemming from an ongoing family dispute. On Friday, August 22nd, 65 year old Michael Shuta of Conklin was found deceased in Montrose, Pennsylvania, Shuta’s death was ruled a suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Police in Pennsylvania and New York believe that Shuta shot his nephew, 41 year old Matthew Slavetskas of Conklin, who was found dead by Officers at his Brady Hill Road residence. Detectives reported that both pistols used in the murder and the suicide were registered to Shuta.

21 year old Joseph Vanblarcom of Middletown was sentenced in Delaware County Court last week to 1 year in prison for Grand Larceny. Vanblarcom admitted that he and 2 other individuals entered City of New York property and stole a DEP owned woodchipper. VanBlarcom was placed on interim probation after his conviction, but he violated his probation when he was arrested for DWI in Ulster County, which increased his sentence to jail time.

The Chenango County Historical Society won a Technical Assistance grant, which will go for a Specialized Conservation Study for the roof of their building, the former Ward School No. 2, on Rexford Street in Norwich, Executive Director Jessica Moquin explains:

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded on August 20th, to a 2 car motor vehicle accident in the Town of Sidney, in which one driver had reportedly left the scene. With the assistance of the Village of Sidney Police Department, the driver was identified as 38-year-old Joshua Crisell of Sidney, and the vehicle was located at a residence in Sidney. Deputies charged Crisell with Reckless Driving, driving to left of pavement markings, failure to keep right and leaving the scene of a property damage accident, Crisell was released on an appearance ticket for the Town of Sidney Town Court at a later date.

State Police issued 109 tickets during a four-hour long Operation Hard Hat detail within a work zone on Interstate 81 in the town of Chenango Thursday. The detail was a combined effort with the State Police and the Broome County Sheriff’s Department, Crews from the DOT were repairing the bridge rail over Front Street. The area is a 55mph zone and just the left lane was closed, while two others were still open to accommodate traffic. Troopers charged 27 for using cell phones while driving, 36 for speeding, 27 for no seat belt, 19 other cvarious tickets were issued.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 50 year old Adam Zuk of Masonville for his non-compliance to Family Court Order of Protection. On August 18th, Deputies o served Zuk with a Delaware County Family Court Order of Protection, he was advised that he needed to vacate the property, Zuk failed to comply, he was charged with Criminal Contempt, he was processed, arraigned & was released on his own recognizance. On August 20th, Deputies were advised that Zuk had attempted to make telephone contact with the protected party, he was charged with Criminal Contempt, he was arraigned and was being held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail and $10,000 bond.

On Wednesday morning, detectives from the Norwich Police Department successfully concluded a drug investigation, resulting in the seizure of 64 grams of fentanyl—an amount capable of causing tens of thousands of fatal overdoses, as well as cocaine, Methamphetamine and a Stun Gun. 38 year old Leo Moore of Norwich, was charged with 12 felonies and 4 misdemeanors following the execution of an arrest warrant, the most serious charge is Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Detectives allege that the arrest closed an extensive investigation into the distribution of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine throughout the community. Moore was arraigned in Norwich City Court and is currently held without bail pending further court proceedings.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office Strategic Response Group observed a motorcycle Wednesday Night operating in Binghamton with improper plates, a traffic stop was attempted & the operator failed to comply and led deputies on a pursuit throughout the City. Eventually, the operator, 28 year old Brian Harrison of Binghamton lost control and attempted to flee on foot, he was apprehended & was found to possess a loaded handgun, as well as a quantity of Methamphetamine. Harrison was charged with Criminal Possession of a Loaded Firearm, and other similar charges, plus Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, he faces court action shortly.

24 year old Jarett Griffin of Walton appeared in Delaware County Court Tuesday, and was sentenced to 1 year of imprisonment for his conviction of Criminal Contempt. Griffin had previously pleaded guilty to Criminal Contempt on May 13, 2025, he had been issued a Stay Away Order of Protection from a protected party as a result of being arrested on stalking and harassment charges in May of 2024. In April Griffin made false accusations to that protected party’s employer in direct violation of the Court’s Order, he was indicted in Delaware County Court on April 24th.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that temporary lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on New York State highways will be suspended from 6:00 am. on Friday, August 29, to 6:00 am. on Tuesday, September 2, to ease travel throughout Labor Day weekend. Drivers should be aware some work may continue behind permanent concrete barriers or for emergency repairs. State Police and local law enforcement are participating in the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement campaign, through Monday, targeting impaired and reckless driving through increased patrols and check points.

Otsego County, the Mohawk Valley Economic Development District and Vernonburg Group, will host a public community update meeting Today, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Morris Fire Hall. The meeting will be held in person and live-streamed, with a recording available afterward at otsegocountyny.gov/broadband. This community session is part of Otsego County’s Broadband Technical Assistance Project aimed at improving high-speed internet access for residents, businesses, and institutions across the region.

On August 13th, 27 year old Noah Cutting was arrested by Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies following a larceny complaint of a stolen trailer in the Village of Sherburne, which was located damaged in Sherburne. Cutting was located after Deputies responded to a trespassing complaint, they located Cutting on scene and he was taken into custody, and was transported back to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for processing, he was released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Village of Sherburne at a later date. On August 23, Cutting was arrested for Grand Larceny after an investigation into a larceny complaint in the Town of Plymouth. Cutting was located and taken into custody, he was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $2,500 bail. He is to appear in the Town of Plymouth Court at a later date.
