A new poll released by the Siena Research Institute found that New Yorkers support impeaching and removing President Donald Trump by a 55-38% margin, the poll also shows that Dividing New York into 2 states is opposed by 66% and supported by only 25%.  The Poll also shows that Governor Cuomo has a 49-47% favorability rating; his job performance rating is 41% favorable, with 57% unfavorable.

Nobel Prize-winning professor M. Stanley Whittingham will be celebrated at the Binghamton University campus this Friday at 3:00 PM at the Osterhout Concert Theater at the Anderson Center.  Whittingham and 2 others were awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry last week for research that was instrumental in the development of the lithium-ion battery.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34 year-old Lenard Cox of Masonville, who is a registered sex offender & who is accused of failing to register 5 separate email and or internet accounts.  Cox was charged with 5 counts of Sex Offender Failure to Report a Change of Address, he was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court where he pled guilty to one count of Attempted Failure to Register an Address Change, he remains in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

Governor Cuomo today announced the launch of the 3rd round of the Energy to Lead competition with $5 million available for New York colleges and universities to lower their carbon footprint & reduce energy use.  The competition is open to 2 or 4-year colleges or universities that are REV Campus Challenge members and it is administered through NYSERDA. Proposals will be accepted through February 20, 2020.  Ongoing projects under previous rounds include the Broome Community College’s “Geothermal Learning Laboratory” to install a closed loop geothermal system that uses the heat energy stored in the earth.

Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond and Sidney Central School District Administrators remind motorists that passing stopped school buses is illegal & it creates a grave danger to children that use the Busses to & from School.  The Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer assigned to the Sidney Central School received 2 complaints recently from the School District’s Transportation Director regarding motorists passing stopped school busses.  Sidney School buses are equipped with state of the art video cameras capable of capturing images of passing vehicles and their license plate numbers during the 2 incidents, the drivers were identified & were ticketed. 

Firefighters from Sidney Center & Surrounding communities responded to an outdoor furnace fire at the Fieldstone House on Wheat Hill Road in Sidney Center.  The fire was reported at about 12:30 PM, the shed was a total loss, the house itself was untouched, and no injuries were reported.

Court action was underway Friday in Chenango County Court, as Chobani seeks to have their assessments lowered, which may result in 3 area school districts reimbursing the Yogurt manufacturer, hundreds of thousands of dollars combined.  The conflict has continued for 3 years already, the Unatego school district could be forced to reimburse Chobani more than $350,000 pending the outcome of court action.

New York State is the 1st state to require makers of feminine Hygiene products to list the ingredients in plain language, after a law was signed recently by Governor Cuomo.  The law was passed by the state legislature this year, in order to allow women who use tampons or other sanitary products to be informed about possible toxic and allergenic chemicals used in the manufacture of the products.    The law takes effect next April & it gives the manufacturers 18 months to develop new packaging or labels.

The State DMV has added a new step in order to crack down on vehicles that violate federal safety requirements. The changes affect modified stretch limousines; 1 year after a modified Limo crashed in Schoharie & killed the driver, 17 passengers & 2 people in a convenience store parking lot.  The limo in the crash was a modified 2001 Ford SUV that wasn’t properly inspected, DMV officials now believe that vehicles that carry this many passengers should  be subjected to higher standards that a typical family vehicle.

State Police have arrested 5 people in connection with a Murder, robbery & suspected Arson at Head Road in Worcester Thursday night.  The deceased has been identified as 53 year old Kenneth Robinson of Worcester; State Police Captain Scott Heggelke told WCDO news what their investigation has uncovered:

32-year-old Nicolas Meridy of Oneonta has also been charged with 2nd degree murder & Robbery,  4 minors are being held, 3 for 2nd degree Murder & Robbery, 1 minor is being held just on the Robbery Charge.  State Police said that Robinson sustained fatal gunshot wounds; the investigation is on-going.

The Otsego County Health Department announced that a Bat has tested Positive for rabies Friday.  1 unvaccinated cat & 2 people were exposed, the people were started on Post Exposure treatment, and the cat is under 6 month Quarantine.  More information about rabies is available by call the Health Department at 547-4230.

The Norwich Fire Department is partnering with the American Red Cross as part of their, “Sound the Alarm,” campaign to provide free smoke detectors to residents of the City of Norwich this month.  The organizations will deliver and install smoke detectors at no cost to city residents beginning on October 26th.  Red Cross representatives will go door to door to gauge interest, and then a team of volunteers from the Norwich Fire Department will install them, free of charge.

State Police are investigating a death at a suspicious Fire in Worcester. Troopers were dispatched shortly before 9:00 p.m. last night, to a fire in the town of Worcester, Police located a deceased subject inside the residence, the investigation is on-going and more details will be released later today.

Daniel Butash of Endicott was sentenced in Broome County Court this morning, following a guilty plea for aggravated vehicular Assault.  Butash was arrested after he was driving the wrong way on State Route 17 & crashed into the patrol vehicle driven by Deputy Kristy Botsford in February, he will serve 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison.

Restorations are continuing at Damaschke Field in Oneonta, as the Grandstand demolition is underway this week.  The project is expected to be completed over the next Several Months, new concrete will be poured soon, & new seats are expected to be installed by next May,  box seats & The dugouts are being rebuilt, all the work is expected to be completed by the May 15th start of the Oneonta Outlaws baseball season.

Former WCDO personality Wayne Robert King has passed away at the age of 62.  King had the 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM shift from the mid 80’s to the late 90’s; he had been operating the Country Motel on State Route 7 in recent years.  Funeral arrangements are being handled by CH Landers Funeral Home.

State Police are asking the public’s help to locate 44 year old Jesse Donlin, who has been missing since early September.  Donlin was last seen in the Oxford area and has not been heard from since.  He is described as a white male, 5’7” feet tall, approximately 165 pounds, with light brown shoulder length hair and brown eyes.   Donlin has ties to Sidney, Unadilla, Morris, Afton as well as Binghamton, Utica & the Capital District.  Anyone with information about Donlin’s whereabouts should call State Police at 561-7400.

Another development in the October 6th 2018 Schoharie Limousine crash has come out, where a former repair shop manager told investigators that brake work was billed but not performed on the stretch limousine that crashed & killed 20 people.  The former manager of a Mavis Discount Tire shop told investigators that a brake system master cylinder was invoiced but not installed at the time of a May 2018 inspection on the 2001 Ford Excursion limo, the vehicle did not stop & blew through an intersection and crashed into a convenience store parking lot, killing all 18 on board & killing 2 people in the parking lot.   Limo company operator Nauman Hussain is facing numerous felony counts in connection with the crash; He is expected in court in January.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers released the new East Sidney Lake Master Plan to serve as a guiding document for decision making at the lake for the next 15 to 25 years.  The Plan includes land use classifications that govern the way land is managed and used as well as outdoor recreation to meet the needs of the public.    The final Master Plan, previous master plans and additional information can be found on the project website nab.usace.army.

Governor Cuomo urged State residents to register as organ donors through the newly-modernized New York State Donate Life Registry.  Nationally, 20 people each day die while awaiting a match for a transplant, according to the federal Health Resources and Services Administration. A person is added to the wait list every 10 minutes, but one donor can save as many as eight lives.  State residents can enroll to be organ donors through 2 online options, donatelife.ny.gov, or dmv.ny.gov

The 2019 Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded to M. Stanley Whittingham, who is a distinguished professor of chemistry and materials science at Binghamton University.  Whittingham won the prize for pioneering research leading to the development of the lithium-ion battery along with John Goodenough and Akira Yoshino.   Whittingham came to Binghamton University in 1988 after 16 years at Exxon Research and Engineering Company, where he received the patent for a rechargeable lithium-ion battery.  The 3 winners will share a prize of $910,000.

Governor Cuomo signed legislation prohibiting ambulance and first response service providers from disclosing or selling private patient information to third parties for marketing purposes. Under prior law, emergency response providers could sell information that identifies an individual patient such as addresses and phone numbers, prescriptions and medical history. The new law prohibits the disclosure of such information to third parties, except to healthcare providers, the patient’s insurer and parties acting under appropriate legal authority.

A 17 year old from the Bronx is the state’s 1st death attributed to Vaping, Governor Cuomo addressed the health crisis earlier today:

Governor Cuomo said that the case has been turned over to the State Health Department for investigation. So far there have been about 1000 health related cases connected to Vaping, including 18 deaths.

The City of Norwich Police Department and the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office are seeking information on 31 year old Christopher Lacroce, for allegedly leading Police on a high speed chase last Friday, & who is also wanted on a warrant for allegedly hitting a pedestrian with a vehicle September 15th at the intersection of Mitchell and Silver streets in Norwich.  Lacroce faces charges of 2nd-degree assault, among other charges that are pending following Friday’s chase.   Anyone with information regarding Lacroce’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Norwich City Police Department at 607-334-2424 or the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office at 607-334-2000.

Today, 19th District Congressman Antonio Delgado announced that $1,239,817 in federal funds were recently awarded to the Friends of the Upper Delaware River and Trout Unlimited as part of the Delaware Watershed Conservation Fund. These new funds will allow local organizations to conserve and restore fish and wildlife habitat, enhance and maintain water quality, and improve river-based recreational opportunities and public access in the Upper Delaware Watershed.  The full list of projects can be found at delgado.house.gov.

NYSEG and AAA New York announced that they are working together to remind passenger and commercial drivers about the dangers of distracted driving.  NYSEG has seen an uptick in the number of passenger vehicles that strike electric poles and commercial construction vehicles that come into contact with power lines and other electric equipment.  According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, 88% of drivers believe distracted driving is on the rise, with nearly half of all drivers admitting to recently talking on hand-held phones and another 35% reporting that they have sent a text or email while driving.

Governor Cuomo announced that 2 new laws to improve pay equity policies will go into effect today, which prohibits all employers who do business in New York State from asking prospective employees about their salary history and compensation.  The new laws also expand the definition of “equal pay for equal work.”

The Otsego County Chamber’s Small Business Banquet will be held on Thursday, November 21 at The Otesaga Hotel and Resort in Cooperstown.   Nominations for various awards are being taken currently; the nominations are requested to the Chamber by this Friday.

State officials, the Division of Homeland Security and the Office of Fire Prevention and Control will preside over the 22nd Annual New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial Ceremony this morning.   The Ceremony will honor 23 fallen firefighters who gave their lives in the line of duty, at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany at 11:00 AM.

Governor Cuomo signed legislation which amends the criminal procedure law to clarify that individuals convicted of petty offenses will have their records sealed by default. Sealed records will not be made available to any person or public or private agency unless a judge determines otherwise,   the legislation will take effect in 90 days.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli released a statement regarding criminal charges filed against former Delhi village clerk Michelle Barnes for theft of public funds. Dinapoli said that the charges resulted from a joint investigation conducted by the Comptroller’s office and State Police, Barnes allegedly wrote $4,788 in village checks to herself for her personal use, & she faces grand larceny charges.

The National Transportation and Safety Board made 4 safety recommendations as a result of the October 6th 2018 Schoharie Limousine crash that killed 20 people. Federal lawmakers took those recommendations and introduced a bipartisan bill aimed at closing the gaps in regulations on a federal level, State lawmakers failed to pass limousine safety measures, they may tackle it in the 2020 session.

Local Congressmen are split over the notion of pursuing impeachment proceedings against President Trump.  19th District Congressman Antonio Delgado released a statement over the weekend saying that it has become clear that the president has placed his personal interests above the national security of our nation by admitting to soliciting the Ukrainian president to investigate potential Democratic President Nominee & former Vice President Joe Biden, which Delgado said is an impeachable offense.  22nd District Congressman Anthony Brindisi stated that while the allegations against the President regarding the call to the President of Ukraine is troubling, he wants to first make sure that the impeachment is Constitutional.

Funeral arrangements for Brooke Ketchum of Unadilla are being handled by C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel at 21 Main Street in Sidney.   Ketchum died in an automobile accident in the town of Otego Friday, Calling hours will be on Wednesday, October 9 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM with the funeral immediately following at 4:00pm. The family invites those in attendance to the Sidney VFW for a reception following services; donations can be made to a memorial fund for her 2 daughters.

Governor Cuomo today signed legislation prohibiting the performance or supervision of a pelvic exam on an anesthetized or unconscious person without informed consent. The legislation also makes it professional misconduct to perform unauthorized pelvic exams. This legislation takes effect in 180 days.
