Delaware County Sheriff’s Office responded On Saturday night, January 25th, to a multi-vehicle accident on Sherwood Road in the Town of Delhi. Deputies interviewed the operator of each involved vehicle, 19-year-old Colin Stemmerman of Nanuet, was charged with Aggravated DWI- Blood Alcohol Content .18 or higher, Driving While Intoxicated, & Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Motor Vehicle Accident, Stemmerman was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Delhi Court and was released to appear at a later date.

The State Department of Transportation announced today that 64 times this winter a vehicle has crashed into a DOT snowplow. Investigations revealed that drivers are going too fast for conditions, are following too closely, or trying to pass the plow while it is clearing the road for everyone, which has led to Taxpayer dollars being wasted on damage that was preventable.

Chobani had their new site plan changes approved by the Rome Planning Board on Tuesday night, as they continue with their expansion plans in New York State. Chobani was leasing over 168 acres on a golf course from Oneida County, but the acreage has been reduced to 93 acres in the new plan, Chobani plans to have the new facility running in 2027, with construction expected to be completed by the end of this year.

The State DEC announced that on January 28th, in the Town of New Lisbon, Forest Rangers responded for a search for a missing 70-year-old after her husband called to report her missing. Otsego County Sheriff’s Deputies followed her tracks to Butternut Creek, A Forest Ranger Laymon went to County Route 12, where the road crosses the creek, and spotted the missing subject standing in a cornfield. Otsego County Emergency Medical Services transported the patient to Bassett Hospital.

Local government sales tax collections in New York state totaled $24.4 billion in calendar year 2025, an increase of 4.5%, or $1 billion, from 2024, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Aggregate county collections outside of New York City grew 4%, or $443 million, in 2025 compared to the previous year. 52 of 57 Counties experienced an increase in collections, Chenango County had the highest growth at 11.8%, followed by Yates, Hamilton and Delaware at 10.7%.

The latest Sienna Institute Polling has Governor Kathy Hochul holding a commanding lead over Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, 54-28%. Among registered Democrats, Hochul has an overwhelming 64-11% lead over Lt. Governor Antonio Delgado. 6 of the Governors proposals received 58-68% support, including eliminating state income tax on the first $25,000 earned in tips, ensuring immigration enforcement targeting those in the country illegally, cannot occur in sensitive locations such as schools, hospitals, & places of worship, increasing childcare funding & providing $30 million in payments to farmers to offset what Hochul calls rising costs due to tariffs (59-17%).

Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced that 62 year old Amber Sines of Sidney pleaded guilty in the Village of Sidney Court to Driving While Intoxicated, Sines was sentenced yesterday to 60 days in jail to be followed by 3 years of probation supervision, her license was revoked, and she will be required to install an ignition interlock device in any vehicle she owns or operates if she re-obtains the privilege to drive. Sines was arrested last March by State Police after observing a vehicle sitting stationery at the intersection of State Highway 8 and Delaware Avenue in the Village of Sidney, the vehicle had an expired registration and inspection and she failed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests at the scene and was placed into custody.

The DCMO BOCES Board of Education proposed capital building project plan will be voted on today until 8:00 PM, by residents of all of the school districts associated with the Pole Campus in Norwich & the Harrold Campus in Trout Creek, and they will also vote on the purchase of the former Masonville Elementary School to house programs for students. BOCES District Superintendent Michael Rullo told WCDO News of the main reasons for the projects:

Rullo said that the BOCES buildings are over more than 50 years old, with the most recent renovations approved in 2005. The projects would start in March of 2027 and conclude in 2028, if approved by voters today.

On January 31st, State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Detail in Otsego County, all 14 business were in compliance, NONE of the locations checked sold alcohol to a person under that age of 21. The detailed focused on Otsego County Businesses in Oneonta, Schenevus & Worcester, During these investigations, businesses are checked utilizing a Trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or provide a false date of birth (if asked).

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 30-year-old Daniel Roe of Davenport, who is accused of subjecting a juvenile to sexual contact in May 2024. Roe was also alleged to have subjected another juvenile to inappropriate sexual conversations during the same time frame. Investigators arrested Roe on 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, 1 count of Forcible Touching, 1 count of Sexual Abuse, Roe was arraigned & Orders of Protection were issued for the victims. Roe was later released on his own recognizance and was directed to appear at the Town of Davenport Court at a later date to answer the charges.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 35 year old Shane Tweedie of Walton following an investigation into a stolen vehicle complaint reported in the Town of Bovina and was later located in the Village of Walton. Tweedie was located by deputies in the Village of Walton and he was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Grand Larceny, Burglary, Criminal Contempt & Criminal Trespass, Tweedie was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment Court.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 19 year old Dayton Carney of Pittsfield, for Assault & Endangering the Welfare of a Child, following an investigation into an assault complaint in the Town of Milford. State Police at Troop C responded today to the report of a vehicle with a windshield that shattered due to ice falling off of a tractor trailer on I-81. An investigation determined that a tractor trailer and a pick-up truck were traveling north on I-81 when a slab of ice flew off the tractor trailer and fell onto the pick-up behind it, the pick-up truck’s driver side front window and windshield were shattered, the driver tractor trailer did not stop, the operator of the pick-up truck, a 23-year-old male of Camden suffered hand and facial injuries, State Police remind Motorists to brush off snow and ice off their vehicles, The investigation is on-going.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 49 year old Kunga Gyamtso following an investigation of a sexual assault that occurred in the Town of Hartwick. Gyamtso is accused of subjecting a female victim to unwanted forcible sexual acts at his residence in the Town of Hartwick. Evidence was presented to the Otsego County Grand Jury which handed down an indictment for the arrest, for Rape & Criminal Sexual Act, Gyamtso was arraigned in the Otsego County Court and remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on $40,000 cash bail or $400,000 partially secured bond. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Vestal Police Department. .

36 year old John Pierre Regazzi of Delhi pleaded guilty to Assault, Forcible Touching and Criminal Contempt in Delaware County Court Wednesday, where he appeared for his scheduled pre-trial hearings. A jury trial was scheduled to commence on February 9, but Regazzi decided to enter a guilty plea, he will be sentenced to 5 years in state prison, to be followed by 3 years of post-release supervision, he will also be required to register as a sex offender for at least 20 years upon his release from state prison, and there will be a final order of protection in favor of the female victim. After pleading guilty, Judge Rosa remanded Regazzi back to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending sentencing on April 1.

Chobani announced that they awarded $400,000 in grants to 40 nonprofit groups through the eighth annual Community Impact Fund. The grants will go to organizations in Central New York, Idaho, Philadelphia and Muskegon Michigan. Locally, the Afton Central Schools will use the funds to build a greenhouse for agricultural education and to supply fresh produce for the FFA Food Pantry. The Food Bank of Central New York will support its Senior Grocery Program, the Norwich City School District will expand its backpack program, the Oneonta Middle School will provide grocery gift cards to families throughout the year, and the Cooperstown Food Pantry will use its grant to offer year-round farmers market vouchers, SNAP matching and CSA shares from regional farms.

The State DEC today filed a notice with the Federal Energy Regulatory Committee to oppose Constitution Pipeline Company, LLC’s petition to reissue a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity and override DEC’s oversight authority under the Clean Water Act for the proposed pipeline project. The DEC officials said that the company is attempting to bypass critical environmental reviews and undercut New York State’s regulatory authority. DEC did not waive its Clean Water Act Section 401 authority and will explore all available options to defend the state rights.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 46 year old Dana DioGuardi of the Town of Chenango after allegedly stealing multiple vehicles, one containing two children in the Town of Chenango. Early Monday, Deputies responded to a report of a stolen vehicle, the owner had left the SUV running in the parking lot of the Dollar General on Route 12 as he was plowing snow using another vehicle, he saw a woman drive off with 2 children inside the vehicle, he followed in the 2nd vehicle, DioGuardi stopped, he pulled her out, she then tried to take the other vehicle but the owner removed her from that vehicle, she fled on foot & was uncooperative, fighting with deputies & kicking a State Trooper in the face. DioGuardi was charged with Grand Larceny, Attempted Grand Larceny, 2 Counts of Child Endangerment, 2 Counts of Kidnapping, Resisting Arrest, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, she was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.

Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced today that 49 year old Justin Valk of Davenport was found guilty of 2nd degree Murder, Assault, Reckless Endangerment, 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, by a jury in Delaware County Court. The jury found that Valk recklessly caused the death of his wife, Stephanie under circumstances of a depraved indifference, by injecting his wife with multiple doses of Methamphetamine and Fentanyl over a 24-hour period, in their Davenport home in August of 2022. Sentencing is set for March 25th, the Murder charge carries a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in state prison, The drug convictions carry the potential of a consecutive state prison sentence of up to 9 years.

During the latest winter snowstorm, members of the State Police in Troop C responded to a total of 76 weather-related events between Sunday and the early morning hours TODAY. In Chenango, Delaware and Otsego Counties, there were 5 Property Damage, 1 Personal Injury accident, 14 Disabled Vehicles & in Broome County, there were 13 Property Damage Accident, 2 Personal Injury Accidents & 9 Disabled Vehicles, there were no Fatal accidents reported.

Governor Kathy Hochul reminds New Yorkers to take advantage of the State’s recently expanded child tax credit, also known as the Empire State Child Credit. The refundable credit can either help offset taxes or be paid out directly to taxpayers as cash back in the form of a refund. Eligible families can now receive up to $1,000 per child under age four and $330 per qualifying child age 4 through 16 years old. Next year, the credit for children ages four through 16 will also increase to up to $500 per child and households with eligible children under age four will still be able to claim up to $1,000 per child. 2 Binghamton residents were arrested on Friday following a search warrant that led to multiple loaded firearms, controlled substances, and items linked to a street gang, according to information from the Binghamton Police Department. Police arrested 44 year old Pedro Masso-Diaz on various drug & weapons charges, they also arrested Hailey Wells on a host of similar charges, following the execution of a search warrant by the Metro S.W.A.T. Team and the Broome County Special Investigations Unit at 6 Grand Ave. in Binghamton, Friday morning. Investigators seized 5 firearms, including an illegally possessed loaded .380 caliber Ruger handgun, a stolen AR-15, an AR pistol, 2 revolvers and Multiple high-capacity magazines were also recovered. Authorities found cocaine, mushrooms, $1,336 in cash, and items used to weigh, cut, and package narcotics for distribution. Both suspects were taken to the Broome County Jail.

Sidney Police Department received a complaint Thursday of an unresponsive male seated in a vehicle blocking the automatic car wash at the Mirabito gas station on West Main Street. The Sidney Police Department K9 Unit responded and made contact with the individual. During the investigation, a quantity of methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl was located inside the vehicle. Police arrested Jason Gray of Bainbridge for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Stimulant with Intent to Sell, Gray was processed and was transported to Delaware County Central Arraignment Court.

The American Red Cross is facing a severe blood shortage as requests from hospitals exceed the available supply of blood, leading to about a 35% drawdown of blood products in the past month.  The shortage is especially serious for platelets and types O, A negative and B negative blood. The Goodyear Lake Polar Bear Jump will return to Goodyear Lake on February 21st, to raise money for area children suffering from a variety of health issues. The event has been held locally for 28 years, Last year they raised $186,000 through donations and auctions, 100% of the proceeds go directly to the children and their families. Broome County Sheriff’s office arrested 2 Binghamton residents following a high speed pursuit through several jurisdiction Thursday. Road Patrol observed a black Jeep matching the description of a vehicle involved in multiple pursuits, it had stolen license plates, the Jeep failed to stop and traveled at a high rate of speed, the front seat passenger climbed into the back seat and began throwing objects at the patrol vehicle, The pursuit ended when police used stop sticks, Police arrested 26 year old Sean Brown of Binghamton & 24 year old Kiley Bonilla-Lattanze of Binghamton. Police seized Methamphetamine from the vehicle, they face numerous charges, Brown was also wanted on warrants from Pennsylvania, Bonilla-Lattanze was processed and released with appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Kirkwood Court, Brown was being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility pending extradition by Pennsylvania State Police.

Delaware County Deputies arrested a Bainbtridge resident Thursday in the Village of Delhi, Deputies observed a vehicle being operated by a male passenger, from the passenger seat, without a driver in the driver seat. 35-year-old William Weil of Bainbridge, appeared to be intoxicated & had a child in the vehicle, he was charged with the Aggravated DWI- child in vehicle, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 1st degree, Driving with a BAC of .08 of 1%, Reckless Driving, Felony DWI & Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Weil was released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.
