The City of Norwich will receive money after President Biden signed the omnibus government funding bill last month, the city will be able to replace 140 year old water mains, according to Norwich Community Development Director Erik Scrivener:

The city will have $2.85 Million dollar to go to the $4 Million dollar project, work is expected to get underway in April through July.

Assemblyman Joe Angelino was reappointed as Ranking Republican on the Committee on Oversight, Analysis, and Investigation. He was also newly appointed to the Veteran’s Affairs, Codes, and Ethics and Guidance committees and will be returning to the Corporation, Authorities and Commissions and Tourism, Parks, Arts and Sports Development committees.

The Johnson City Police Department arrested 64 year old Thomas Taber, who is accused of setting his home on fire at 15 Columbus Place on January 6th. Taber was charged him with 3rd degree Arson the fire was quickly extinguished by the Johnson City and Binghamton fire departments, Taber was taken to Broome County central arraignment. He was released & will answer to the charge ion court at a later date.

One of the contestants on tonight’s episode of “Jeopardy” has local ties to Sidney, Kelly Mraz is a music teacher in Georgia, & is the niece of Greg Davie, who told WCDO news that the episode was taped months ago, and the family won’t know how she did until tonight:

Emergency crews responded to a multi-vehicle accident on I-86 in Windsor Friday Night. 1 pickup truck caught fire, & the highway was closed for several hours for the investigation & clean up. State Police, Broome County Sheriff’s deputies and the Windsor Fire Department responded. The investigation is ongoing.

The Oneonta Police Department received a call from an anonymous number at about 9:10 am Saturday, from a female caller presented as needing assistance with late term pregnancy and labor. The Officer fielding the phone call was able to coach the woman through childbirth and remained on the phone for 3 1/2 hours in an attempt to locate the caller with negative results. Oneonta Police believed the call was coming from the 6th Ward, but were unable to find the caller, who is believed to be in her early to mid-twenties, slim build, and blonde hair with a British or Irish accent, anyone with information should call Oneonta Police at (607) 432-1111.

Sidney Firefighters responded to 214 Johnson Circle in the village last night, for the report of smoke showing at Springbrook. Residents were evacuated, the smoke was from a defective furnace, no injuries were reported & residents were moved to another residence for the night.

Binghamton Police announced that an officer has been switched to desk duty, following allegations by witnesses that the officer detained one person involved in a fight on January 1st, by kneeling on the suspect’s neck. Video from bystanders was released to social media platforms, & protesters appeared at the Police Station following the incident. Binghamton Police are asking all those who recorded video of the incident to turn them into to investigators by calling (607) 772-7091.
