3 Buildings & 4 Vehicles were destroyed in Saturday’s early morning fire on Main Street in Worcester. Firefighters were able to remove one person from 1 of the buildings, Otsego County & State Fire investigators are trying to determine what caused the fire.

State Police will participate in a national crackdown on distracted driving as part of April’s National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. The enforcement effort, called Operation Hang Up, will include increased patrols and checkpoints targeting drivers using electronic devices while behind the wheel. This year’s enforcement detail will run from Monday, April 4, through Monday, April 11.

Norwich Police Department conducted a traffic stop on State Street Sunday, that resulted in the arrest of2 Norwich men on Drug Charges. Arrested were 30 year old Brett Adams of Norwich & 22 year old Brendan Smith of Norwich for criminal possession of a controlled substance, Adams and Smith were arraigned at Norwich City Court. Brett Adams was held on $1,000 cash bail, and Brendan Smith was released on his own recognizance to appear in court at a later date.

Volunteer fire departments across New York will open their doors on Saturday, April 23rd, and Sunday, April 24th as part of the 13th annual RecruitNY weekend. RecruitNY is an initiative designed to help increase membership in local volunteer fire departments. Tom Vail of the Afton Fire Department told WCDO about their open House on April 23rd from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM in conjunction with the annual Recruit New York program:

The 3rd meeting of the Norwich Downtown Revitalization Initiative Local Planning Committee will be held virtually on Tuesday, April 12th at 3:00 PM. Norwich received a $10 Million Dollar award, Topics discussed during this meeting include an overview of program status, DRI project evaluation criteria, and a review of projects submitted as part of the City’s DRI application & those received through the Open Call for Project Proposals.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched Saturday to the State Hwy 10 and Falls Mills Rd in the Town of Delhi for a report of a male subject walking in the roadway. A 2nd call stated that a male subject had been struck by a passing motorist in that same vicinity. Deputies & Delhi Fire Department & EMS located 18 year old Damyan Bonilla of Chester New York, who was taken to O’Connor Hospital with injuries & he was later transferred to Bassett Medical Center for further treatment. Deputies determined that Bonilla was walking on State Route 10, he was struck by a vehicle, the investigation in on-going.

Congressman Antonio Delgado announced that 11,131 petition signatures were delivered to the New York State Board of Elections for Delgado’s reelection in New York’s 19th Congressional District. New York’s 19th Congressional District is expected to include all of Delaware County and parts of Broome, Chenango, & Otsego counties.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli issued a statement following the Legislature’s passage of an extender bill to fund state operations, after they failed to come to an agreement on a budget plan: DiNapoli stated that the budget extender bill will ensure that more than 60,000 state employees will be paid this week, but there may be a delay.
