Governor Cuomo held the 2nd part of the State of the State address earlier today, where he announced a plan for the academic world & former CEO’s of large companies, to assist in getting New Yorkers back to work or retrained, after the economy took a major hit from the COVID pandemic.

The Governor & the State Legislature will have to tackle a new state budget that starts with a 15 Billion Dollar deficit from the COVID shutdown.

The Village of Sidney Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative Committee will hold a ZOOM meeting Wednesday night for the community to hear about the village’s Police Reform plans, Sidney Mayor Andy Matviak explains:

Governor Cuomo last year challenged Police Departments across the state to meet with the communities they serve, in order to make reforms on Police policies, the plans are due to the state by April 1st.

U.S. Senators Charles Schumer & Kirsten Gillibrand held a video press conference today to announce their Direct Support For Communities Act to provide local governments with direct federal relief that can be used to pay for essential services, retain vital frontline workers, and offset lost revenues and increased costs from the COVID-19 emergency:

State and local governments have faced devastating revenue losses due to the pandemic and previous stimulus bills have not addressed the revenue loss by the state, New York State is facing a $15 Billion dollar deficit due to their COVID relief efforts.

Chenango County Public Health announced their current numbers regarding COVID 19.  They have 214 Active Cases, with 12 hospitalized, 506 quarantined out of 1520 total cases.  they have conducted almost 60,000 tests since last spring.

Governor Cuomo announced that 203,904 New Yorkers were Tested for COVID Sunday with 13,714 positives, or 6.72%.  Patient hospitalizations were up again by 161 to 8,645, the Number in an ICU went down slightly to 1,426, 891 were on ventilators and 170 died.

Delaware County Public Health Reported a 17th death from COVID 19 Monday.  Delaware County reported 27 positives, 165 active cases and 6 are hospitalized & 269 are quarantined.

The Sidney Central School district has been notified that one 5th grade student has tested positive for COVID-19, The student has not been on campus since Wednesday, January 6th. The Delaware County Health Department has conducted an investigation and the contact tracing has been completed. There will be no change to the instructional model at this time.

State Police assisted the Village of Sidney Police Sunday Night after a vehicle failed to comply for a traffic stop after entering I-88 at exit 9 in the Village of Sidney.  The vehicle exited at Bainbridge onto State Highway 206, the vehicle intentionally struck a State Police vehicle in Masonville, causing damage. The vehicle continued onto Parker Hollow Road where it left the roadway & took off again, it located a short time later on its roof on Pine Hill Road.  The male driver was transported to A.O Fox Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The female passenger was transported to Wilson Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The investigation continues, charges are pending.  More will be released when it is available.

Governor Cuomo announced that following successful implementation of the pilot plan to open Bills Stadium to fans last week, Buffalo Bills fans can attend the team’s 2nd home playoff game on Saturday, January 16. Under this continued demonstration, approximately 6,700 fans will be allowed to attend the game only after first obtaining a negative COVID-19 test result and adhering to all public health precautions. Contact tracing will also be conducted after the game and tailgating remains prohibited.
