The State Senate Followed the State Assembly & passed the controversial “Green Light Bill” Monday, which will allow for undocumented immigrants to acquire a New York State Driver’s License.  The bill calls for protections against federal government interference & harassment of those immigrants that earn a New York Driver’s license, Governor Cuomo signed the bill after the state Solicitor General’s office verified the constitutionality of the protections and the bill as a whole.

James Brower was sentenced in Chenango County Court Monday to 1 1/2 to 4 1/2 years in prison after a guilty plea of hindering prosecution in connection with the death of 11 year old Jacelyn O’Connor in the town of Norwich 2 years ago.   Tobias Rundstrom Wooding was sentenced to 20 years in prison last year, for the raping and killing O’Connor.

Endicott Police announced that 77 year old Russell Darrow of Brackney, Pennsylvania man was the pilot that was killed in a single engine plane that crashed at Tri-Cities Airport in Endicott Monday.  Darrow crashed his single propeller plane on the Norfolk Southern Railroad property between Industrial Park Boulevard and Airport Road in Endicott at about 11:20 AM Monday.  Darrow was pronounced dead at the scene. There was no one else in the aircraft.  The cause of the crash is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board.

The 24th Annual Gus Macker 3 on 3 Basketball tournament will return to Norwich next month, Organizer Tom Revoir told WCDO News that the deadline for teams to register is coming right up & volunteers are still needed:

The Gus Macker Basketball Tournament will be held on July 13th & 14th in Norwich.

Governor Cuomo announced the New York State Thruway Authority Board approved the selection of the Design-Build team who will install cashless tolling on the Thruway system.  The $355.3 million investment will transform the Thruway system for about 267 million motorists who travel the superhighway every year.  According to Governor Cuomo, the cashless tolling will be implemented on the entire NYS Thruway system by the end of 2020.  More information is available at thruway.ny.gov

The next regular meeting of the Oneonta Common Council will be held this evening.  The meeting starts at 7:00 PM in the Common Council Chambers at City Hall.

State Police at Oneonta arrested 25 year old Phillip Davis of Strasburg, Virginia Sunday, for 2 counts of the felony of Criminal Possession of a Firearm.   A trooper responded to an accident involving a motorcycle on I-88 in the town of Worcester, Davis told the trooper that when a tractor trailer passed him, he lost control of his Harley, he was uninjured, it was discovered that Davis was in possession of 2 guns illegally in the rear storage area of his motorcycle, Davis did not possess a pistol permit.  He was arrested and arraigned in the town of Worcester court where he was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $2000 cash bail or $4000 bond.  Davis will appear in court on July 2nd.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 47 year old John Lafever of Unadilla with DWI, making an unsafe lane change, and operating a motor vehicle while using mobile device, following a 1 car accident on County Route 23 in the Town of Walton. Lafever was released on appearance tickets and it set to appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date to answer the charge.

The Chenango County Department of Public Works shall close County Road 14 between The Madison County Line and Conley Road, in the Town of Smyrna today.  The closure is in place for the replacement of a large culvert, officials estimate that the project could take about 3 days, Motorists are asked to seek alternative routes, local traffic will be allowed to and from their homes.  More information is available at 337-1710.
