State Police released more details on the April 11th crash that killed Whitesboro Police Officer Kevin Crossley. Troopers reported that an eyewitness and a surveillance video showed Officer Crossley made a U-turn, his patrol vehicle then collided with an SUV driven by Nicole Moshier-Harris. Officer Crossley’s vehicle was travelling at 74 miles per hour, and his actions were consistent with pursuing an unidentified violator. The coroner’s report determined that Officer Crossley’s death was caused by multiple traumatic injuries & he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Moshier-Harris was issued a traffic ticket for failing to yield the right of way, no additional charges are anticipated.

Law enforcement agencies across the state participated in the Operation Safe Stop Day today. Police officers will be on board school buses and monitoring bus routes to ensure safe driving. An estimated 50,000 motor vehicles illegally pass New York State school buses every day. Last year, more than 1000 tickets were issued for people passing a stopped school bus.

Governor Cuomo launched Round 8 of the Regional Economic Development Council initiative, kicking off the 2018 competition for more than $750 million in state economic development resources. The Consolidated Funding Application will open to applicants on May 1, enabling businesses, municipalities, not-for-profits and the public to begin applying for Projects. Round 8 will include up to $150 million in capital grants and up to $75 million in Excelsior Tax Credits for projects and activities identified by the Councils as regional priorities.

NYSEG President & CEO Carl Taylor announced a $400,000 economic development grant for Binghamton University this afternoon. The latest award brings the total up to $1.2 million in funding which NYSEG has granted to the university, to help support 3 projects under the company’s economic development electric infrastructure programs. The goal is to help offset electric-related infrastructure improvements as well as to research, develop and promote energy-efficient systems.

Governor Cuomo announced that DICK’S Sporting Goods, has plans to construct the Company’s first-ever in-house eCommerce fulfillment center. The company will construct an approximate 245,000 square-foot addition to its recently opened distribution center in Broome County Corporate Park in Conklin. The expansion will lead to the creation of additional full-time jobs, totaling more than 500 new, full-time jobs at the site over the next 5 years.
