State Police responded to the report of a 2-vehicle collision with injuries on State Highway 8 in the Town of Norwich, Thursday. Investigation revealed that 43-year-old Yae Yar of Utica entered the opposing lane to pass an un-involved tractor-trailer, his vehicle struck another driven by 27 year old Joanna Stanimer of West Edmeston. Yar was pronounced dead at the scene from internal injuries, 36 year old Me Me was transported to Tri Town Hospital in Sidney where she was pronounced dead on arrival from internal injuries. Stanimer was air lifted to Wilson Hospital by Lifenet and remains in critical condition with internal injuries. Autopsies on the 2 deceased persons will be performed at Lourdes Hospital. 4 other people were taken to area hospitals with a variety of injuries; all were listed in serious but stable condition. The investigation is ongoing.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s & Sidney Police arrested 3 people in the Village of Sidney Thursday following narcotics trafficking investigation conducted. Arrested were 22 year old Harry Ramirez of Sidney and Bronx with 2 charges of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and one charge of 3rd degree Robbery. Ramirez is accused of forcibly stealing money from a cooperating witness, was found to possess a quantity of heroin with intent to sell. Police conducted a search of Ramirez’, Sidney residence, 44 year old Dawn Beta, and 29 year old Jasmine Santiago of Valley Stream, are accused of possessing and unsuccessfully attempted to flush and destroy heroin. Beta and Santiago were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Tampering. Police seized heroin, liquid PCP, hypodermic instruments and more than $1000 cash. All were arraigned, Ramirez were remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $350,000 cash bail. Beta and Santiago were each remanded on $250,000 cash bail pending further court action.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a reported bomb threat at DCMO BOCES Harold Campus in the Town of Masonville Thursday. A written threat to the building was located in a bathroom, students were evacuated & The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and State Police Explosives Detection K9 unit searched the school and were unable to locate explosives. 16-year-old Andrew Slentz of New Berlin was arrested for 1st degree filing a False Report; he was arraigned in the Town of Masonville Court and remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $500 cash bail. Slentz will reappear in the Town of Masonville Court at a later date.

State Police and local law enforcement will participate in the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign through Friday, January 1st. Troopers will sobriety checkpoints, & they will be watching for distracted drivers, vehicle occupants who are not buckled up and drivers violating the “Move Over Law”. Last year, State Police issued more than 49,000 tickets, more than 17,000 were for speeding, 1,730 were for distracted driving and 697 for the Move Over Law. There were also 702 people arrested for DWI and 13 people killed in vehicle crashes.

The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York called on Governor Cuomo to sign the 10-year smoke alarm bill into law. The bill, which requires all smoke alarms sold in New York State to have sealed, tamper proof, ten year batteries, now sits on his desk after passing both houses of the legislature.
