An indictment was unsealed Tuesday morning in Federal Court, accusing State Senator Tom Libous of using his political influence to get his son a job with a law firm in Westchester County. The Accusations follow an investigation conducted jointly by the FBI and The Internal Revenue Service since 2010, when Libous allegedly gave several false statements to investigators. Matthew Libous is charged with 6 counts. Of impeding or obstructing the IRS and filing false tax returns. The Arraignment is scheduled in Westchester County this afternoon.

New York State has edged out Maine to keep its spot as the nation’s second biggest producer of maple syrup. The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported that New York produced 546,000 gallons of syrup in 2014, just 1,000 gallons more than Maine, Vermont held on to the top position, producing more maple syrup than Maine and New York combined. Syrup production in the northeast was down in 2014 due to the longer winter, which delayed the start of syrup season.

State Police arrested 56-year-old William Say of Greene for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a reportable BAC result of 0.19%. The arrest resulted from a vehicle and traffic law stop for having a headlight out on State Route 12 in Norwich, troopers accused Say of driving while intoxicated during that stop. Say was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Norwich Court on July 3rd.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Investigators arrested 19-year-old Ismael Pizarro of Syracuse, on an Arrest Warrant issued by the Town of Delhi Court, for 1 count of 2nd degree Assault. Pizarro was charged in connection with an incident in the Delaware County Jail on Saturday where he allegedly assaulted another inmate, causing a physical injury. Pizarro remains incarcerated on the previous charge, & will be arraigned on this charge at a later time.

The New York State Department of Health announced it has revised immunization requirements for school attendance to meet updated national standards. The new requirements do not add any new vaccines for school entry, but update the number of doses required and the minimum intervals between doses, which goes into effect today. State Agriculture Commissioner Richard Ball announced that the first-ever New York yogurt bar, called YO2GO, will debut at the 2014 Great New York State Fair. YO2GO will take up 40 feet of space in the New York State Fair’s Dairy Products Building and provide consumers with two different styles of yogurt; regular vanilla and Greek Yogurt, made with 100 percent New York milk. In 2013, New York produced 741 million pounds of yogurt, which accounted for 15.7% of total US yogurt production in 2013.
