Binghamton Police arrested 4 juveniles in connection with the attack on a homeless man last Monday. The Juveniles were ages 14 & 15 years old and they were charged with Attempted Murder and were being held in a Syracuse detention center, a 13 year is also expected to be charged in connection with the case, Binghamton Police are investigating the case as “social media trend” where groups target homeless or drug-addicted individuals for violent assaults. 45 year old Peter Bennedum died from his injuries at an area hospital Friday, a go fund me page has been set up for his family members, a vigil will be held Tuesday, at 3:00 pm at the intersection of Carroll and Henry Streets in Binghamton, where police found Bennedum beaten & unconscious on the sidewalk last Monday night. The Broome County DA’s Office reported that additional charges will be filed against the juveniles following Bennedum’s death.

74 year old Miles Marshall faces up 4 to 12 years in prison for stealing more than $50 million from hundreds of people in upstate New York as part of a massive Ponzi scheme. Marshall pleaded guilty last week, to grand larceny, securities fraud and scheme to defraud, Marshall prepared taxes and sold insurance in Hamilton, he is scheduled to be sentenced in Madison County Court on June 11.

Broome Sheriff’s Office arrested 34 year old Sayquan McKenzie of Camden New Jersey last week after deputies observed his vehicle making an illegal turn, his Georgia license plate was not registered, a traffic stop was initiated, leading to a pursuit, which ended after Deputies deployed stop sticks, the vehicle was disabled & McKenzie fled on foot but was apprehended after falling, he was taken to Wilson Hospital for medical treatment, and was then charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Obstructing Governmental Administration, False Personation, and a host of other charges, After answering to his charges in Broome County, McKenzie will be extradited due to warrants in other jurisdictions for assaulting a New York City Police Officer, and for a New Jersey robbery.

State Police & local law enforcement are cracking down on license plate fraud, with the Operation Plate Check enforcement detail that started on Saturday. Over the last few years, law enforcement has noted an increase in the use of fictitious license plates and fraudulent temporary paper tags, During this year’s enforcement period, State Police will add extra patrols through Saturday.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli audited the Town of Davenport, The audit found that the board did not conduct, or provide for, an annual audit of the supervisor’s financial records and reports for fiscal year 2024, the supervisor also did not properly maintain financial information for liabilities and fund equity in the balance sheet reports, hindering the board’s ability to monitor the town’s financial operations throughout the year.
