Delaware County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 2 Correctional Facility inmates on assault charges. On August 1st, Investigators received a complaint of a fight that between 2 inmates, which resulted in injuries to 1 of the involved parties. Investigators arrested 22-year-old Dakota Mann on one count 2nd degree Assault & 31-year-old Timothy Reiche was charged with 1 count Attempted Assault, both were arraigned and were remanded back to the custody of Correctional Facility.

Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 3.1 Million Dollars or .2% in July compared to July 2023, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Upstate Counties & Small Cities increase by 1.2%, with 40 of 57 counties experienced year-over-year increases.

Sidney Police Department in a joint operation with NYS Parole, Otsego County Probation Department and State Police executed a search warrant at 22 Lincoln Ave in the Village of Sidney, which resulted in the seizure of methamphetamine, fentanyl and xylazine, Police arrested 41 year old Darcee Lewis of Sidney for Criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, & 43 year old Lloyd Hunt of Sidney, for Criminal possession of a controlled substance, Lewis was processed and transported to Delaware County Jail to await arraignment, Hunt was processed and released on an appearance ticket. The investigation is ongoing and more charges are expected.

Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force approached a vehicle in a parking lot & 2 people were spotted asleep inside the vehicle, and narcotics paraphernalia were in plain view, Officers located 48 grams of meth. The Task Force executed a search warrant at a residence of one of the people in the vehicle, Logan Tribe-Filhart, Items used for packaging narcotics were found in the residence. Tribe-Filhart was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminal Using Drug Paraphernalia.

Utica Police arrested a Connecticut couple following Friday morning’s robbery at the Bank of Utica on Genesee Street in downtown Utica. Police arrested 60-year-old James Perkins and 42-year-old Christy Roper, both of Hamden, Connecticut. after the Friday Morning heist, a search warrant was issued and following the search, proceeds from the robbery along with a large quantity of narcotics was located. Perkins & Roper were charged with Robbery, & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, The investigation is continuing.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 56 year old John Nack & 25 year old Samantha Truax of Oneonta, after Deputies responded in the Town of Oneonta attempting to locate an individual wanted on charges for an unrelated investigation. While on scene, Nack was in possession of over 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine, during the execution of a search warrant, additional controlled substances were located. Nack & Truax were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, they were transported to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office. Nack was held in the Otsego County Correctional Facility for Arraignment, Truax was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Oneonta Court and released.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 63 year old Keith Hansen of Oneonta for Sex Offender Failure to update his Photograph, as required by someone on the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Hansen was located at a residence in the Town of Oneonta and transported to the Sheriff’s Office. Following arrest processing, the defendant was released on an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Oneonta Court at a later date.

State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 28 in the Town of Otsego. A preliminary investigation indicated that a van operated by 21 year old Jackson Diliberto of Richfield Springs, crossed the center double yellow lines and struck a Nissan SUV, which went off the road, overturned and landed on its roof. The van contained 11 passengers including 9 children ages 7 to 10. The driver of the Nissan 65 year old Amy Valentine, West Winfield, was transported to Bassett Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, 3 children from the van, went to Bassett Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 in Marathon. 26 year old MD Sanzid Bin Rashid of the Bronx, was traveling north on I- 81 in a SUV, of the Marathon exit, Bin Rashid encountered slowed traffic due to construction, swerved to avoid stopped traffic and went into the left lane striking a Toyota, both exited the roadway, The Honda overturned, landing on its side. The operator of the Toyota, a 71-year-old male from New Jersey did not survive the crash. A passenger in the Toyota, a 70-year-old female of New Jersey was transported to Upstate Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Rashid was treated at the scene. The investigation continues.

State Trooper Christopher DiBartolo of Troop F in Middletown was arrested for 1st degree Robbery, criminal mischief & Officials Misconduct, following an investigation of an incident outside a residence in the village of Liberty in 2023. The victim came forward after he was involved in an incident with DiBartolo while he was on duty, reporting that Trooper DiBartolo took personal property from him, causing damage. DiBartolo was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and released on his own recognizance until the next court date scheduled for August 27, he has been suspended without pay from his position as a State Trooper.

The Rite Aid Pharmacy chain announced that they have closed 25 in New York state, and they will close another 29 by the end of this year. The Rite Aid at 94 Chestnut Street in Oneonta is slated to be closed, the chain has filed for bankruptcy protection in 2023, the chain is expected to close about 1000 of the existing 1800 stores in the US within the next year.

Village of Sidney officials announced that starting on September 1st, there will be an added “Manganese Removal Capital Project Debt Service” fee of $34.35 per quarter on your water bill. The fee goes for financing the new well, new infrastructure and new water treatment facility, the fee will be on all future quarterly water billings.

The Delaware County DA’s Office announced that 32 year old James Lor of Margaretville pleaded guilty to aggravated cruelty to animals in Delaware County Court this week. Lor admitted that he had killed a dog, he was sentenced to 1 1/3 to 4 years in jail for committing this act, which violated the terms of his probation.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 39 year old Michael Hitchcock of Otego for Criminal possession of a controlled substance & on an existing warrant, Hitchcock was arrested following an investigation into a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Oneonta, he was found to be in possession of a controlled substance, and was wanted on a warrant from Oneonta Police, he was processed & issued an appearance ticket, he was then transported to Oneonta Police Department and turned over to answer his outstanding warrant.

The National Weather Service has now confirmed a record setting 28 tornadoes hit New York State this year, following a tornado confirmation in St. Lawrence County over the past weekend. the previous record was 25 in 1992, more than 20 of the tornadoes touched down in the month of July.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that an additional $200 million is now available to school districts and bus operators for zero-emission school buses through the second installment of funding from the Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act. The funding provides support for the purchase of electric buses, charging infrastructure or fleet electrification planning. To date, 250 districts have started developing these plans, and more than 100 additional districts are in the process of applying for fleet planning in coordination with their local BOCES districts. 41 year old Rasheed Crawford of Binghamton pleaded guilty to 2 counts of Robbery in Broome County Court. On April 8th, at the Mirabito Service Station on Court Street in Binghamton, and on April 10th, at EZ Food Mart on East Main Street in Endicott, Crawford forcibly stole lottery tickets and cash from store clerks while brandishing what looked like a handgun. Crawford is scheduled to be sentenced on November 8th, to 8 years in State Prison followed by three years of post-release supervision.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer was in Cooperstown Tuesday, he announced that he has secured over $17 Million Dollars in federal COVID-19 relief funding for Bassett Healthcare Network through a provision in the American Rescue Plan. The Binghamton Police Department arrested 31 year old Matthew Carrasquillo of Binghamton, When he was eventually taken into custody after a brief pursuit, officers found a loaded and defaced handgun & a high-capacity handgun magazine. He was charged with numerous counts of criminal possession of a weapon as well as criminal possession of a firearm. These are felony charges. He is also facing misdemeanor charges of obstruction of governmental administration in the second degree and resisting arrest.

52 year old James Kenyon of Smithville Flats pleaded guilty in US District Court to transmitting a threat to injure in interstate commerce and unlawfully possessing 3 firearms while subject to a domestic violence order of protection. Kenyon admitted that on December 10, 2022, he made a profanity-laced Facebook post in which he threatened to decapitate another individual and told the individual to move out-of-state. Kenyon also admitted to possessing 2 rifles and a shotgun, while there was a restraining order that prohibited him from possessing any firearms. Kenyon could face a combined maximum term of 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of up to 3 years.

The State DOT is alerting motorists that State Route 79 will be closed from about 1,000 feet east of the Interstate 88 interchange to the intersection with Main Street in the Town of Colesville, until further notice. State Police BCI is investigating the suspicious death of 2 individuals on Parsons Road in Chenango Forks. 63 year old Scott Cleary of Chenango Forks, was located deceased in his residence, 38 year old Matthew Lott of Chenango Forks, was located deceased a quarter mile north of the residence near railroad tracks. Cleary and Lott lived in the residence, The investigation is on-going, there is no threat to the community, More information will be released when available.

21 year old Leyska Rivera-Mateo of Binghamton, was sentenced to 4.5 years in New York State Prison followed by 3 years post-release supervision for 2nd degree Assault, in Broome County Court. Rivera-Mateo went to Endicott on July 23, 2023, where she attacked a female victim by throwing her to the ground, pinned her & repeatedly punched & kicked her, dragged her by her hair down concrete stairs, and resumed the attack, the victim sustained multiple jaw fractures.

State Police are now accepting applications for the Trooper Entrance Examination, and testing for candidates will start on August 15th, Candidates can sign up to take the exam at joinstatepolice.ny.gov. 34 year old Rashima Rollocks of Binghamton, pleaded guilty to 2nd degree Assault in Broome County Court. On June 19, 2023 Rollocks committed a violent assault on a seventy-five-year-old blind man inside his home in the City of Binghamton. Rollocks is scheduled to appear back in court for sentencing on November 7th, where she is expected to receive 7 years in New York State Prison followed by 3 years post-release supervision.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 33 year old Gary Garbera of Cherry Valley following a Grand Larceny investigation. Garbera is accused of stealing a vehicle in the Village of Gilbertsville. Garbera was processed and issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to Town of Butternuts Court.

38 year old Tristan Skeete of Brooklyn was sentenced to additional jail time for assaulting a fellow inmate at the Delaware County Correctional Facility. On February 20th, Corrections Officers of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fight occurring in one of the housing units at the Delaware County Correctional Facility. Upon arrival, officers broke up the fight between Skeete, & 2 other inmates, Corrections Officer Bryce Charles eventually deployed a taser to break up the fight. Skeete appeared in Delaware County Court this week & entered a guilty plea to 3rd degree Assault, he was sentenced to 7 months incarceration, a $25 Crime Victim fee and surcharge, and a $50 DNA fee.

The 8th Annual Savannah Williams Memorial Scholarship Fundraising Golf event will be held this Saturday. The registration starts at 11:00 AM at the Canasawacta Country Club in Norwich, the day will also feature the Beadle Brothers performing at the Pavilion at 5:30 PM. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 22 year old Nicholas Harrington of Preston for multiple counts of Burglary, Grand Larceny, & Criminal Possession of Stolen property, Harrington allegedly entered a barn and stole a Can-Am 4 wheeler along with several cans of gas, he was observed loading it in to the bed of a white Dodge pick-up truck that investigators were familiar with as being used in other crimes in Chenango County. On Tuesday, Harrington was located in Morris and taken in to custody on the charges from the Town of Butternuts & on 3 warrants from Chenango County. A search warrant was executed in Morris where stolen items were located, as well as the white pick-up truck, which was stolen from another county. Harrington was being held in the Otsego County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.

35 year old Tadd Sherwood of Oneonta was sentenced to 1 year of incarceration for his part in the theft of $1,368.77 worth of goods from Tractor Supply on August 18, 2023, in the Town of Davenport. Sherwood & Autumn Knapp stole merchandise from the Tractor Supply in Davenport and fled the scene in a Mazda, security camera footage offered positive identifications on the suspects and a license plate from the vehicle.
