The annual Tri Town Relay for Life event gets underway tonight through tomorrow morning at general Clinton park in Bainbridge.  American cancer society spokesperson Helen Gregory invites the public to see what the event is all about:

The event annually raises about $100,000 dollars for cancer research & programs, WCDO Will broadcast at the beginning of the Relay For Life this evening.

The Chenango county sheriff’s department arrested 21-year-old Gregg Goodrich of Greene for Driving While Intoxicated and Driving with a Blood Alcohol level greater than .08%.  Deputies responded following a report from a civilian of an intoxicated driver.  Goodrich was issued appearance tickets for the Town of Greene Court at a later date.

Motorists are advised that State Route 17 eastbound between exit 71 Airport Road and exit 72 Front Street will be reduced from 3 lanes to 1 lane to allow for placement of concrete barrier.  This work will be performed today between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputy’s arrested 23-year-old Justin Bolivar of Walton on a Bench Warrant issued by Town of Colchester Court, for failure to pay fine.  Bolivar was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correction Facility in lieu of $205 fine and surcharge is paid or he will be returned to the Court on May 7th.

Sidney village officials announced that today & tomorrow, old appliances, metal or tires might be dropped off at the village garage at 28 Sherman Avenue.  The event runs from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, items accepted will be computer items, fax machines, cell phones, microwaves, gaming systems, clean metal, tires, and appliances.

P.M. NEWS THURSDAY 5-2-13

State Troopers arrested 24-year-old Nathaniel Bracci, 18-year-old Sarah Gangell and 23-year-old Brayan Thompson of Delhi for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. The arrests resulted from a traffic stop on State Route 10 in Stamford,  Bracci and Thompson were issued Appearance Tickets and are scheduled to reappear before the Town of Stamford Court on May 14th,  Gangell was arraigned in the Town of Stamford Court and remanded to Delaware County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5000 bond pending court action.

The state Appellate Division ruled unanimously in favor of the town of Dryden in Tompkins County, and the town of Middlefield in Otsego County today, for passing zoning laws that prohibit natural gas drilling. Norse Energy & Middlefield landowner Jennifer Huntington brought the lawsuits against the 2 towns in recent years for banning gas drilling after they already had signed leases to drill for natural gas, today’s ruling upholds rulings from lower courts.  Appeals to  today’s decision to the state Court of Appeals are anticipated.

State Troopers arrested 29-year-old Lauren Lauko of Deposit for Unlawful Possession of Marihuana and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. The arrest was the result of a traffic stop on State Route 17 in the Town of Hancock,  Lauko was issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Hancock Court on May 6th.

The Otsego County Planning Department, the Otsego County Conservation Association, Opportunities for Otsego Energy Services, and Sustainable Otsego have teamed up to sponsor a workshop series called “Energy Wise Otsego,” to help Otsego County homeowners learn how to save money, and increase the comfort and value of their homes. A rally against the proposed CONSTITUTION Pipeline is scheduled in downtown Oneonta later today.  The rally will be in front of Foothills Performing Arts Center on Market Street in Oneonta at 5:00pm. The rally is in response to the Paradigm Liaison Services meeting inside Foothills for local government and business leaders.

Assemblyman Cliff Crouch will be hosting an informational forum on the NY SAFE Act tonight.  Crouch said that the law did receive a few changes during the budget negotiations:

Motorists are advised that State Route 17 eastbound between exit 71 Airport Road and exit 72 Front Street will be reduced from three travel lanes to one travel lane for pavement work again today.  Traffic will be shifted to the left lane, the work will be performed between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, Route 17 will be opened to two lanes of travel.

P.M. NEWS WEDNESDAY 5-1-13

The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 31 year old Andrew Whitney of Norwich for driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with .08, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, numerous equipment violations, and on arrest and bench warrants.  Whitney is accused of operating a motor vehicle in an intoxicated state; deputies also found that there was an active bench warrant from Town of Norwich Court for failure to appear for sentencing, and on an arrest warrant from City of Norwich for petty larceny and conspiracy.  Whitney was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on  $11,000 total cash bail pending action in both courts.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s department arrested 34-year-old Timothy Cunnius of Sherburne for DWI, aggravated DWI, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle & driving with blood alcohol content greater than .18%.  Cunnius was arrested following a traffic stop in the Town of North Norwich; he was processed and released to appear in the Town of North Norwich Court at a later date.

Sidney village police arrested 42-year-old Stacey Martin of Sidney on a variety of charges.  Martin was charged with 6 counts of 4th degree grand larceny, and 3 counts of Petty larceny.  Martin faces court action at a later date.

The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 19-year-old Devven Ferris of Sherburne for unlawful possession of marihuana.  Ferris was charged following a traffic stop, where marihuana was found hidden in a compartment.   Ferris was processed and released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Sherburne Court at a later date.

The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 23-year-old Joshua Knuth of Otselic for 3rd degree menacing.  Knuth is accused of pointing a BB gun at a person causing the person to be in fear of serious physical injury; he was arraigned & was released to appear in the Town of Otselic Court at a later date.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested Elizabeth Polasik Of Norwich for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Fleeing and Failure to Comply with Lawful Order.  The arrest followed a traffic stop on State Highway 8 in the Town of Guilford, after deputies witnessed a vehicle traveling at an unsafe speed, a pursuit followed & the Polasik vehicle finally stopped.  Polasik was in possession of Morphine pills & was found to be intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of more than three times the legal limit.  Polasik was arraigned in the Town of Guilford Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $8,000 cash bail; she will reappear in Guilford court on a later date.

P.M. NEWS TUESDAY 4-30-13

Oneonta fire fighters responded to a blaze at 34 Watkins Avenue Sunday morning.  No one was home when the fire broke out, it was reported by neighbors at around 8:40 AM.  Fire crews from West Oneonta, Otego, Worcester, Sidney and Franklin were called in, the Joseph family will be staying with relatives, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

A Binghamton man has admitted to receiving heroin through the mail in January.  The package was collected by Edward Ciarleglio of Binghamton it was delivered by an undercover police officer.  The package contained narcotics, opiates and heroin.  Ciarleglio pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute heroin.

State lawmakers worked to make things easier for dairy farmers, as they struggle to meet the increased demands from the wildly growing Greek yogurt industry.  Assembly agriculture committee chairman Bill Magee Explains;

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 49-year-old Rhonda Murphy of Downsville for Harassment.  The charge stems from an incident between Murphy and a male subject.  Murphy will appear in Colchester Town Court at a later date, a temporary order of protection was issued for the victim.

State Police in Binghamton arrested 41-year-old Eric Best of Kirkwood for Driving While Intoxicated and Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated & Driving with a Child in the Vehicle. The arrest was the result of a traffic stop on State Route 7 in the Town of Conklin.  Best was arranged in the Town of Fenton Court and remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.

Delaware County Deputies arrested 55-year-old Jeffrey Armstrong of Walton on a criminal summons issued by the Town of Walton Court for 2nd degree Harassment.  The arrest resulted from an alleged dispute that occurred in the Town of Walton; Armstrong faces court action at a later date.

P.M. NEWS MONDAY 4-29-13

State Police at Oneonta arrested 34 year old Gerard Knutsen  of South New Berlin for Driving While Intoxicated.   The arrest resulted from a traffic stop on State Route 23 in the Town of Laurens, Knutsen was arraigned in the Town of Laurens Court and remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on $500 cash bail.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies received a report of a Hit and Run Motor Vehicle Accident at 273 Arbor Hill Road in the Town of Delhi.  A vehicle went off the highway and struck a vehicle in a garage owned by Kenneth Pile, it was shoved into another vehicle parked inside the garage, damaging both vehicles.    The investigation led deputies to COPART AUTO AUCTION, in Marlboro, New York, where a suspect vehicle was ready to be sold at auction.  Based evidence left at the scene, Deputies were able to identify the 2003 Kia involved in the accident, Deputies identified 35 year old THOMAS KERN of Walton as the operator of the Kia, Kern was issued tickets for Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident, speed unreasonable for road conditions, Failure to keep right & Unsafe tires, he faces court action at a later date.

State Police at Norwich arrested 23-year-old Jeffrey Vanderneut of Earlville for Driving While Intoxicated.  The arrest resulted from a traffic stop in the Village of Sherburne; Vanderneut was issued Tickets returnable to the Village of Sherburne Court on May 9th.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies investigated a car vs. motorcycle accident on State Highway 206 in the Town of Masonville Wednesday.  62-year-old James Newton of Norwich rear ended a stopped car and was thrown from his motorcycle.  Newton suffered multiple unspecified injuries; he was air lifted to the Albany Medical Center by a Life-Net Helicopter for further treatment.

Delaware County Deputies arrested 27-year-old Amber Armstrong of Walton for 2nd degree Harassment regarding an incident in the Town of Walton on April 19th with another male subject.   Amber Armstrong was issued a Criminal Summons by the Town of Walton Court returnable on May 8th.

NYSEG will present its “Power of Safety” program this week to approximately 300 fourth-graders from five Oneonta-area schools. The program will be at NYSEG’s Country Club Road facility.   The program is based on fourth-grade curriculum and includes a video, discussions about electrical safety and NYSEG’s powerful live-line demonstration.

Motorists are advised that road work will occur on Front Street between Prospect Street and Bevier Street, on Prospect Street near Mygatt Street, and on Chenango Street between Moffatt Avenue and Sturgess Street in Binghamton for the remainder of the week.  Work will be performed between 7:00 AM to 5:00  daily from Monday April 29th to Friday May 3rd, weather permitting. Travelers will encounter periodic lane closures at these locations while this work is done.
