Assemblyman Cliff Crouch and Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo will be hosting a Community Forum to receive public input about the planned closure of the Broome Developmental Center.  The forum will be held from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm tonight at the Chenango Valley   High School Auditorium at 221 Chenango Bridge Road in Binghamton.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Department arrested 18 year old Rebel Whitman of Greene for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.  Whitman  was charged following an investigation into a reported burglary in the Town of Greene, Whitman is accused of possessing a stolen sound mixing board from a residence in Greene.  He was issued an appearance ticket for  the Town of Greene court and will appear in court at a later date.

NYSEG will be inspecting natural gas transmission pipeline rights of way from a helicopter this week.  Crews will inspect natural gas transmission rights of way in the Oneonta region from November 12th  to the 15th, weather permitting.

Governor Cuomo announced that the state’s Sex Offender Registry will now display multiple photographs of convicted sex offenders, in an effort to make offenders more recognizable to law enforcement personnel and the public. There are currently 36,336 registered sex offenders in New York State, Information about Level 2 and 3 offenders also can be accessed via the New York State Public Safety Facebook page, They can also sign up to receive alerts via e-mail, text, fax or telephone whenever Level 2 or 3 sex offenders move to or from a community of interest to them, at nyalert.gov.

Anthony Taglianetti was found guilty of 2nd degree Friday in Chautauqua County Court, for the murder of Keith Reed, who was the superintendent of the Clymer Central school District. Reed was gunned down outside his home in Mayfield in September of 2012; he previously served as a principal in the Sherburne Earlville district. Taglianetti faces sentencing on February 2nd.

Chenango county sheriff’s deputies arrested 42 year old Rudolph Rodriquez for DWI, Driving with BAC of .08 or higher, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Speeding, Refusal to Submit to a Breath Screening test, and Consumption of an Alcoholic Beverage in a Motor Vehicle, following a traffic stop in the Town of Norwich. Rodriquez was found to be operating the motor vehicle in an intoxicated state, and while having his driving privileges suspended. Rodriquez was taken into custody without incident, processed, and released to a sober third party. Rodriquez is scheduled to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 2 Town of North Norwich residents on charges of Petty Larceny, 6th degree Conspiracy, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Trespass. Charged were 30-year-old Tamara Shoales and 35-year-old Quinn Brown for allegedly entering private property owned by Chenango County Asphalt in the Town of Norwich on Friday, and stealing scrap metal. The pair was also accompanied by their 3-year-old child. Shoales and Brown were issued appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.

Now that New York voters have approved legalizing casino gaming, Lt. Governor Robert Duffy predicts specific projects will be selected by the middle of next year. The governor will name a selection committee to screen proposals. Duffy said once that is done soon, he would expect actual projects would be given the green light.

Governor Cuomo encouraged New Yorkers to make a donation to their local food bank, which helps to feed people who are struggling to afford healthy meals. The state’s regional food banks are expecting increased demand for assistance in light of recent federal changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. As of November 1, monthly food stamp benefits were reduced due to the expiration of a temporary increase that was implemented nationally as part of the federal stimulus in 2009.

Governor Cuomo announced that in honor of Veterans day today, he signed legislation to ensure that the flags lowered to half-staff at the State Capitol in honor of a fallen soldier are presented to the loved ones of the deceased.    The Governor also signed a new law to  designate State Route 23 in the Town of Davenport as the ”Davenport Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Highway, to memorialize the recently deceased members of the VFW Post #487 who served in Korea and World War 2. Another new law will designate a portion of State Route 97 in the Town of Hancock as the “Hancock Veterans Memorial Highway”  as that Town lost 2 service men in the Iraq War, as well as in previous wars and conflicts.

State Police in Sidney arrested 46-year-old MARK CRAWFORD of Guilford for Criminal Sexual Act, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  The arrests were made following an investigation conducted by the State Police and Chenango County Child Protective Services into allegations that Crawford was having sexual contact with a person less than 11 years old.  Crawford was arraigned in the Town of Guilford Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $20,000 bail.  The Investigation is continuing.  Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the New York State Police at 561-7400.

State police at Oneonta arrested 50-year-old Michael Hinckley of Treadwell for aggravated DWI with a reportable BAC result of .19%. The arrest resulted from a vehicle stop for using a cell phone on Main Street in Oneonta; Hinckley was released with tickets returnable to the Oneonta city court on November 20th.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office has proposed a partnership with county school districts to operate Sheriff Sub-Stations inside school buildings. Delaware County Undersheriff Craig Dumond explains:

Dumond said that each Deputy will be provided a building access pass and keys to enable immediate access to the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Stamford & Deposit already have substation offices up & running, 3 other district are considering the proposal.

P.M. NEWS FRIDAY 11-8-13

Binghamton Police arrested Kyle Wood of Binghamton on 2 outstanding Arrest Warrants for 1st & 2nd degree Assault.  Wood is accused of striking 2 people with a samurai sword on October 27th in the City of Binghamton, during a disturbance. Police stated that one victim underwent emergency surgery at Lourdes Hospital, with his fingers almost severed in the attack.  Binghamton police are asking anyone with further information to contact them at 772-7080.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office, and the Binghamton and Johnson City police departments announced the arrest of 29-year-old Alexis Howell of Endicott, on charges of 3rd & 4th degree criminal possession of a controlled substance & unlawful possession of marijuana.  Howell is accused of possessing 537 bags containing heroin, along with 12-knotted wraps that held crack cocaine and two knotted wraps of marijuana, which was confiscated after police executed a search warrant.  Howell arraigned and was sent to the Broome County jail without bail.

Schoonover said that a museum of company artifacts is being put together at the Sidney Facility, and is should be open by the end of this year.  Acco is the largest supplier of planning products in North America, producing and shipping millions of items each week during its peak selling season from October to January.

Governor Cuomo today advised taxpayers to beware of solicitations offering a fee-based service to apply for the STAR property tax exemption.  Cuomo said that the application for the STAR program is free.  New Homeowners can register online at tax.ny.gov or by phone at 518-457-2036.  The registration deadline is December 31st.

State police arrested 27-year-old Robert Hissin of Port Crane for 2nd degree burglary, following an investigation into the theft of hydrocodone pills from a residence in the town of Fenton.    Hissin is accused of forcing his way into a neighbor’s residence and stealing prescription medication, he was arraigned in the Fenton town court and remanded to the Broome county jail without bail.

State police at Oneonta arrested 23-year-old Annamarie Davoulas of Oneonta for 2nd degree criminal contempt.  The arrest resulted after a vehicle stop for speeding on I-88 in Oneonta; police then discovered that Davoulas had an order of protection issued against her by the front seat passenger.  Davoulas faces action in Oneonta town court on November 19th.

State police at Sidney arrested 34-year-old Bobbie Davies of Butternuts on 2 counts of endangering the welfare of a child and 2 counts of 2nd degree harassment.   The arrest occurred after an incident on Taylor Road in Butternuts, the investigation determined that Davies had kicked and stepped on 2 children during a dispute.  She was arraigned at the Otego town court and remanded to the Otsego jail in lieu of $2,000 cash bail.  An order of protection was issued for the victims.

State police arrested 37 year old Jason Knapp of Franklin for felony aggravated DWI with a child, endangering the welfare of a child, and leaving the scene of an accident after state police investigated a one car accident on State Highway 7 in Otego in which the driver fled the scene with a child.  An investigation determined Knapp was driving while intoxicated with a BAC of .14% and had his child in the car with him when he had the accident.  Knapp was issued tickets for Otego town court November 14th.

There are over 24,000 pending VA claims in the state and US Senator Charles Schumer wants to reduce those numbers.  Schumer said the DepartmeJason Knappnt of Defense and Veterans Affairs Administration health records systems don’t talk to one another and that is one reason for the slow processing of health claims.  Schumer is calling on the two federal agencies to create interoperable, electronic health records for service members to address the delays in processing vets’ disability and other benefits

The State DEC is enhancing its web site. The DEC will make information available online for nearly 2,000 remedial sites. A new study estimates 779,000 New Yorkers are eligible for tax credits that would reduce premium payments for insurance coverage they can buy through the state’s new insurance exchange. The Kaiser Family Foundation analysis shows 17 million people, now uninsured or who buy insurance individually, will be eligible for credits when coverage starts in 2014. Governor Cuomo traveled to Binghamton Wednesday afternoon to discuss how the approved casino gaming amendment has the potential to bring millions of dollars in new revenue as well as provide property tax relief and boost tourism and economic development:

The locations for the 4 upstate destination gaming resorts will be selected based on the economic development impact of the resort, and they will restricted to the Hudson Valley–Catskill area, the Capital District and the Southern Tier. There will be a 7-year exclusivity period during which no further destination gaming resorts will be licensed by the State.

P.M. NEWS WEDNESDAY 11-6-13

State police arrested Bradley Falkenmeyer of Bainbridge for 2nd degree burglary and 2 counts of criminal possession of a weapon.   The arrest followed an investigation of a theft of firearms on Kilkenny Road in Unadilla in August.   The stolen firearms were recovered; Falkenmeyer was arraigned at the Otsego town court and remanded to the Otsego jail on $10,000 cash bond.

Traffic was slowed down in Binghamton for several hours yesterday on I-81 following a tractor-trailer rollover at 2:40 pm.   The tractor-trailer was hauling a load of roofing trusses, which had shifted on a curve and caused the accident.  28-year-old Thomas Stauffer of Selinsgrove Pennsylvania was not injured in the incident; he was ticketed for an improperly secured load, returnable in Dickinson Town Court at a later date. Northbound Traffic was interrupted for about 2 hours.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded to 1323 Upper Front Street in the Town of Chenango this morning following a report of fighting in the parking lot of the Manley’s Mighty Mart and then at the Express Mart in the Town of Dickinson. Deputies located the Honda that reportedly left both scenes, 27 year old Kamal Khawaja of Deposit was charged with DWI, Driving with a BAC of .08% or higher as well as a Tinted Window violation, he was later released & will appear in the Town of Fenton Court at a later date.

State police at Norwich arrested 47-year-old Scott Fitch of Oxford, for DWI with a BAC result of .16%, twice the legal limit.  The arrest resulted from a traffic stop on Mechanic Street Oxford; Fitch was issued tickets returnable to the Oxford village court on November 18th.

The state DMV is now offering 35 expanded online services, which includes the ability to view the status of an identification card or driver license, renew, or replace a license online. On the state’s DMV website, customers may now sign up for a free “MyDMV” account.  Customers can also register to vote, become an organ donor and buy a copy of their driver records. Customers can also sign up for email reminders about registration and inspection renewals at dmv.ny.gov

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 24-year-old Brayan Thompson of Delhi for Petty Larceny and 24-year-old Nathaniel Bracci of Delhi for 1 count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.  Deputies accuse Thompson of stealing property belonging to the Delaware County Dept of Public Works from a location in the Town of Franklin; Bracci allegedly sold the stolen property to a business in the Town of Davenport.   Both were issued appearance tickets for latest this month.
