Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 44 year old Jennifer Carr of Worchester and 18 year old Tanner Carr of Worchester for failure to provide proper sustenance for their animals. Bother are accused of failing to feed their horse for approximately 1 week. Tanner Car was charged with 1 count of Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance, in violation of the Agriculture and Markets Law. Jennifer Carr was charged with 4 counts of Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance, Both will appear in Franklin Town Court on January 8, 2015 at 6:00 PM to answer the charges.

Governor Cuomo announced legislation prohibiting the sale of liquid nicotine to minors and requiring childproof containers to protect against accidental poisoning. Liquid nicotine is a composite of nicotine and other chemicals, Concentrated liquid nicotine is highly toxic, it may cause tremors, vomiting, seizures, and potentially, death in children. The Center For Disease Control Report the number of calls to poison control centers involving liquid nicotine rose from 1 per month in September 2010 to 215 per month in February 2014, half of those invovled children under 5.

6 months after proposing a teacher evaluation bill, Governor Cuomo vetoed that bill claiming that it did not fix the issues with the teacher evaluation system. The veto came after the state Education Department released the latest round of evaluation scores, where 95% of teachers rated “effective” or “highly effective” in the latest school year. Cuomo promised to propose “comprehensive reforms” to the teacher evaluation system next year.

New York’s minimum wage will increase by 75 cents Wednesday, to $8.75 an hour. The raise is part of a series of three annual changes that began last year, following passage by the state legislature.

27-year-old Duncan Kent of Vestal faces several charges for allegedly stealing items out of vehicles. Police said that Kent attempted to destroy evidence by eating it, he was charged with resisting arrest, petty larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, conspiracy, & tampering with physical evidence. He was arraigned in the Town of Union Court and remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.

3 people have been arrested in Binghamton for a recent home invasion burglary. Charged were 25-year-old Christopher Peterson, 36-year-old Bryan Crowningshield and 37-year-old Ariana Edwards of Binghamton, after they allegedly broke into an elderly woman’s home Christmas Eve, and stole a large screen TV. A police K9 tracked down the suspects, they were charged with burglary and face court action shortly.

Embattled Congressman Michael Grimm has decided to resign his seat after he had pleaded guilty last week to one count of felony tax evasion. The resignation is effective January 5th, House Speaker John Boehner and House Republican leadership pushed Grimm to resign his seat after he pleaded guilty to federal tax evasion last week, Grimm made headlines earlier this year when he threatened to push a Time Warner Cable TV Reporter over a balcony in Albany when questioned about allegations of wrongdoing.

Governor Cuomo will deliver 2 inaugural addresses Thursday, as he begins his second term in office. Cuomo will speak at noon at 1 World Trade Center in New York City, and then at about 4:30 PM, he is scheduled to deliver a second inaugural address at the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society. Cuomo and Lieutenant Governor-elect Kathy Hochul will be officially sworn in on New Year’s Eve at the Governor’s Mansion in Albany.

A Chenango county man has been arrested for allegedly driving while impaired by drugs and getting a vehicle stuck in mud in a person’s yard Sunday. Cortland County Sheriff’s Department arrested 50-year-old Timothy Green of McDonough on charges of driving while impaired by drugs, driving an uninspected, uninsured vehicle with improper license plates, & driving without a license. Green was taken to Cortland County Jail on $5,000 cash bail and $10,000 bond pending court action

State Senator Jim Seward will be sworn in for another term in the Senate Thursday at the Otsego County Courthouse in Cooperstown. Senator Seward will be sworn into office for his 15th senate term, Otsego County Sheriff Richard Devlin will also be sworn in for a new term. Supreme Court Justice Michael Coccoma and Otsego County Judge Brian Burns will administer the oath of office. The Ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m.

Fire destroyed Cole’s Truck Parts on state Route 23 in the town of Davenport Friday afternoon. The fire was reported shortly after noon Friday. All occupants escaped without injury, the fire destroyed Cole’s Truck Parts and Don’s Diesel, where investigators believe the fire started. 11 area fire companies assisted Davenport Firefighters

An Otsego county jury found 2 Kingston men guilty of 1st degree attempted robbery and 4th -degree conspiracy last week. Jury deliberation lasted only 75 minutes, before issuing guilty verdicts on 24 year old Anthony Placido & 25 year old Victor Deleon, both were arrested for trying to rob 2 people at gunpoint in Oneonta on November 14th 2013. Both face sentencing on February 20th

Governor Andrew Cuomo submitted a letter to New York State’s Gaming Commission on Friday to re-open bidding for a ‘true’ Southern Tier Region casino license, which was included in Proposition One which was passed on 2013. Tioga Downs would be a likely spot for a casino, as owners at Traditions in Johnson City have backed out. The gaming commission awarded a “Southern Tier” casino license to Lago in Tyre, about 85 miles north of the Binghamton region.

28 year old Tyron Morris of Schenectady faces additional charges of assault, following an incident in the Otsego County Jail. Morris is accused of attempting to assault an inmate & a correctional officer, last month, he was charged with Attempted Assault, and he was being held on drug charges on $25,000 bail, he faces court action on the latest charge on January 15th.

The Chenango County Sheriffs department arrested 60-year-old Richard Graef of Columbus for Harassment, obstruction of governmental administration, and resisting arrest. Graef was charged following a traffic stop in the Town of Columbus for a moving violation, he exited the vehicle, began threatening the deputy and subjected the deputy to unwanted physical contact, interfered with the official duties while the deputy was conducting the traffic stop, and then resisted arrest while being placed into custody. Graef was arraigned in the Town of Columbus Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of cash bail. Graef is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Columbus Court at a later date.

The Chenango County Sheriffs department arrested 38-year-old Richard Small of Cortland for Promoting Prison Contraband. Small is accused of attempting to hide narcotic prescription medications on his person while remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility. Small was processed and will appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley led a coalition of 17 states to file a brief in the U.S. Supreme Court urging them to uphold the interpretation of the federal Fair Housing Act. The Inclusive Communities Project had proven a low-income housing tax credits program resulted in a disparate impact on African-American residents in violation of the Fair Housing Act. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments in the case on Wednesday, January 21, 2015.

Otsego County residents are reminded that their holiday wrapping paper is recyclable and should not be thrown away as trash. Wrapping paper can be mixed with regular household recyclables & may be left for your local hauler to pick up, or may be delivered to the transfer stations in Cooperstown and Oneonta. There is no charge for delivering recyclables to the transfer sites and there is no limit to the volume delivered. Wrapping paper with aluminum coating and bows should not be included. Assemblyman Cliff Crouch stated that the ownership at Traditions and Tioga Downs are working together to bring a Casino to the Southern Tier. Crouch, along with Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo and State Senator Tom Libous are urging Governor Cuomo to reopen the bidding for a fourth Casino and for this Casino to be granted to the Southern Tier, the siting commission only picked 3 sites for new casinos, with the Southern Tier choice about 85 miles north of Binghamton in Seneca county. The plan for this bid was jointly presented at a press conference Tuesday at Traditions.

State Police will be out in full force for the Christmas holiday. Police will be looking for aggressive drivers, drunk drivers, as well as motorists who are using cell phones for calling or texting, and they will be looking for compliance to seat belt laws and the new “Move Over” laws.

Free Christmas dinners are being offered for those who are struggling, or who have no family visiting this year, at the River Club in Afton Christmas day, with deliveries available within a 10-mile radius, toys have also been collected & will be distributed to children in attendance. In Sidney, a free Christmas day dinner is also being offered at the river street fire station from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.

The parent company of the Constitution Pipeline has filed eminent domain proceedings against 55 landowners along the proposed pipeline route from Northeast Pennsylvania through the Southern Tier & into Schoharie County. The Pipeline’s proposed 124-mile route travels through Broome Chenango & Delaware Counties locally, the project recently received approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to continue, they look to begin construction as soon as possible.

The state labor department has released the unemployment statistics for November. Locally Chenango county rate dropped to 5.7%, Delaware County’s rate was down to 6.3% and Otsego County dropped to 5.5% in November.

Sidney Village Officials unveiled their plans to US Senator Chuck Schumer Saturday, to re-invent the Village and get residents out of harms way when future flooding rains hit the region. Sidney Economic Development Director John Redente explains:

The village is expecting about 22 million dollars for the plans to move resident out of the River Street area, turn that into a Green space, and move those residents into a new development in the Plankenhorn Road area.

Governor Cuomo announced that farmers in New York set a sales record in 2013, with $5.68 billion in cash receipts, more than $1 billion more than just 3 years earlier. The first-ever Farm to Table Upstate-Downstate Agriculture Summit, held just a few weeks ago, brought new initiatives to connect the upstate farmers with downstate consumers. A new “Buy New York” initiative was introduced, to increase New York State agricultural purchases among state agencies and other institutions. Agricultural remains the state’s top industry, followed by Tourism.

The state DEC has revised the list of Endangered Species in New York. To revise the list, DEC and cooperating species experts developed an assessment document for 594 species, the draft final list contains 372 species, half of which are considered high priority for conservation action in the near term. Spending by New York’s largest public authorities jumped $3.5 billion since last reported in 2013, with state and local authorities reporting nearly $60 billion in spending in their latest annual filings, according to a report released by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Meanwhile, the combined debt of state and local authorities topped a quarter of a trillion dollars. DiNapoli found that state public authorities spent $38 billion in their last reported fiscal year, local authorities spent $21.5 billion. The report can be accessed at osc.state.ny.us.

Governor Cuomo vows to help the Southern Tier, after the region lost out on the possible revenues from the banning hydraulic fracturing, and by the placement of a casino in the Finger Lakes rather than Johnson City or Tioga Downs. Local leaders such as State Senator Tom Libous have pressed Cuomo to reconsider issuing a fourth casino license to the region, only 3 were picked by the state casino gaming commission.
