Governor Cuomo arrived in Havana, as part of the New York State Trade Mission to Cuba Monday. Cuban government leaders & business leaders greeted the Governor, who is traveling with New York Business leaders, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie & other members of the state legislature. In the afternoon, the Governor delivered remarks at the opening of a business roundtable meeting between New York and Cuban industry leaders representing a variety of sectors.

The Delaware County Public Health Services will hold a Free Rabies Vaccination Clinic today for dogs, cats, and domesticated ferrets today. The Clinic will be held at 7:00 to 8:30 pm at the Hancock Town Hall.

Governor Cuomo departed New York with the NYS Trade Mission to Cuba this morning, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, as well as other lawmakers and business leaders joined Cuomo’s trade mission trip to Cuba. The Governor & others are meeting with high-level Cuban leaders throughout the day today.

An increase in the abuse of synthetic marijuana, led to Governor Cuomo issuing a health alert for the state. Cuomo’s office stated that there were more than 160 people have reportedly been hospitalized due to abusing the drug, most of the abuse has been by teens or young adults. Cuomo’s banned the selling of Synthetic marijuana & bath salts in 2012.

The site sorts thousands of jobs by region and occupation, and also allows users to search jobs based on zip code and travel distance. On Friday, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Gardner Road in the Town of Colchester for a reported violation of an order of protection, issued by the Delaware County Family; Deputies arrested 33-year-old Roger Vernold of Downsville for Criminal Trespass, Criminal Contempt, and Aggravated Harassment. Appearance tickets were issued for Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

Sidney village officials announced hydrants flushing would continue for the next 2 weeks. Flushing throughout the village will be from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM daily, residents may experience roily water during those hours.

A.M. NEWS MONDAY 4-20-15

A City of Newark, New Jersey resident was arrested for 3rd degree assault and criminal mischief in Chenango County. Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 37 year old Daniel Lynch following an incident that occurred in February, Lynch is accused of being involved in a physical altercation with the victim at a business in the Village of Smyrna, where he allegedly caused a physical injury and damaged property. Lynch was released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Village of Smyrna Court at a later date.

P.M. NEWS FRIDAY 4-17-15

State Police have released information in a fatal Otsego County motor vehicle accident that occurred yesterday on US Route 20 in the town of Richfield. 20 year old Kaitlin Mercier of Huntington, Massachusetts was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident. 22-year-old Amanda Conley of Brattleboro Vermont was a passenger in the vehicle; she was taken to Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown with a broken right leg and bruises. The investigation is continuing, the results of an autopsy are expected shortly.

Governor Cuomo has been seeking a new way to evaluate teachers the last 2 years, by tying test scores to teacher effectiveness. Area Assemblyman Cliff Crouch said that this whole controversy about evaluating teachers was unnecessary:

Governor Cuomo said earlier this year that the students were passing state tests at a 40 percent rate, but the teacher evaluation was at 98%, he contended that those numbers don’t add up, the state’s teachers union disagrees.

A.M. NEWS FRIDAY 4-17-15

Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 2-car accident on State Route 12 in the town of Oxford last night. 51-year-old Richard Swanson of Staten Island pulled out a driveway into the path of a vehicle driven by 31-year-old Heather Bradley of Binghamton, at around 9:20 last night. Swanson was charged with DWI; Bradley was taken to Wilson hospital with minor injuries.

Federal officials are continuing the investigation New York state Senate leader Dean Skelos and his son Adam as part of a federal probe into corruption among state leaders. The current investigation follows the arrest of Skelos’s former Assembly counterpart Sheldon Silver on federal corruption charges, as well as charges filed over the last few years against deputy Senate leader Tom Libous of Binghamton, and former state senate leaders Joe Bruno, Pedro Espada and Hiram Monseratte. No charges have yet been filed against Dean or Adam Skelos.

A Chenango County Grand Jury indicted 27-year-old Jason Sigler & 50 year old Patricia Manwarren of Norwich for Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance. The 2 were arrested in February by The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office & Norwich Police after they executed a “no knock” search warrant at 12 Mechanic Street in Norwich. The Sheriff’s Office recovered cocaine, prescription pills, marihuana, digital scales, and Baggies during that search.

The Village of Sidney will hold their 23rd annual Sidney Arbor Day program on Friday, April 24 at 10:00 AM at Bill Ray field, behind the Moose Lodge off East Main Street. Governor Cuomo today announced the craft beer industry in New York State grew 59% from 2013 to 2014, with a total economic impact estimated at $3.5 billion. The number of craft breweries has more than doubled from 2012 to 2015, from 95 breweries in 2012 and 207 in January 2015. Congressman Chris Gibson announced the introduction of the Family Farm Relief Act of 2015, to move the H-2A Agricultural Visa program from the Department of Labor to the Department of Agriculture, to meet the unique labor needs of farmers. The Act Allows visa applicants to fill out H-2A applications and allows farm cooperatives and other agricultural associations to apply for workers for their members, & makes the program more workable for dairy and other livestock operations, it also requires reporting to Congress if delays occur in the H-2A Visa application process.

Sidney Village Police & State Police arrested 17-year-old Joshua Hunt of Sidney, 1st-degree rape, 1st-degree criminal sexual act and two charges of endangering the welfare of a child. Hunt was arraigned in the Sidney town court and sent to jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Town of Oxford man following an accident on Lower Ravine Road in the Town of Norwich. Gregory Collins is accused of operating the vehicle while intoxicated and without a license, he was charged with DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation & other traffic violations. He was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $500 cash bail pending a Town of Norwich Court appearance at a later date.

P.M. NEWS WEDNESDAY 4-15-15

36 year old Corrine Simmons of Deposit appeared in Oneonta city court yesterday, to answer to charges relating to last Friday’s bank robbery at the NBT Bank branch at 1 Wall Street in Oneonta. Simmons was arrested a short time later on Fonda Avenue; Oneonta police said that surveillance video in the bank and outside the bank help lead to the arrest. Simmons is being held on bail on a variety of charges in the Otsego county jail.

Delaware County Sheriffs Deputies arrested 45-year-old Ronald Conrow of Stamford for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, alcohol related, using motor vehicle without ignition interlock device and uninspected motor vehicle. Conrow was also arrested for violation of probation. He was arraigned in Village of Delhi Court and sent to Delaware County Jail without bail to await further action of court. The owner of vehicle Conrow was operating 44 year old Pamela Pitcher of Delhi was charged with facilitating unlicensed operation and loaning a vehicle without ignition interlock device, she will appear in Village of Delhi Court at later date.

Congressman Chris Gibson announced the introduction of the Delaware River Basin Conservation Act, which seeks to protect the Delaware River watershed and strengthens the region’s outdoor economy. Governor Cuomo announced the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance stopped 252,000 bogus refund claims in 2014, saving taxpayers $450 million. Already this year, the Department has stopped $331 million in fraudulent and erroneous refund claims–a trend projecting the total savings to taxpayers will exceed $500 million in 2015.

Main Street Baseball, LLC of Florida has filed a lawsuit against the Binghamton Mets for breach of contract, relating to a sale of the team & the backing out from that sale. Main Street seeks a 6-month injunction to keep the B-Mets ownership from selling the team, after they released emails from team president Michael Urda where he said that he had no problem selling to a group that would move the team out of Binghamton. Urda released a statement to the press Tuesday saying they did sign a Letter of Intent with Main Street Baseball in December, that contained the provision that the “Relocation to Wilmington Delaware would not be allowed under the conditions of the sale.” Urda stated that a second ownership group has come forward that wants to keep the team in NYSEG Stadium, and that he has faith in the court system.

State Police at Sidney arrested 36-year-old Larry Plows of Unadilla, for 1st degree Criminal Contempt. Troopers investigated a report that a victim was receiving harassing phone calls from Plows, which violated a valid court order of protection. Plows was arraigned in the Town of Butternuts Court and released after he made bail. His next court date is on April 23rd.

Hartwick College President Margaret Drugovich has been appointed to the NCAA Division III Chancellors/Presidents Advisory Group. Drugovich joins 15 others on the Advisory Group, which consists of one chancellor or president from each Division III voting conference not currently represented on the Presidents Council or by a chancellor/president on the NCAA Management Council. Drugovich’s term will run through January 2017.

State Police at Sidney arrested 21-year-old Shelbie Twiss of Walton for Criminal Trespass & Harassment, following Troopers responded to a residence on County Route 23 in Walton. Troopers accuse Twiss of barging her way into the residence and threatening the victim inside. Twiss was arraigned in the Town of Walton Court and released without bail, she faces court action on April 22nd, & an order of protection was issued.
