Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced today the 3rd set of criminal indictments against 51 year old David Gensler of Delhi, Gensler was arraigned in Delaware County Court & the indictment was unsealed, the 3rd indictment is the result of a joint investigation by the Village of Delhi Police and the State Police. Previously, Gensler was indicted for Sexual Abuse, Attempted Sexual Abuse, Disseminating Indecent Materials to Minors, Luring a Child, Rape, Stalking & Unlawful Imprisonment. The New Indictments charges him with Falsely Reporting of an Incident, Offering a False Instrument for Filing, Tampering with Physical Evidence, & Conspiracy in order to falsely report a crime against another party. Gensler was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail, pending trial in this matter.

22 year old Matthew Bartosik of Conklin was sentenced today to 50 years in jail for the January 3rd killing of his uncle, Michael Lewis, following a family argument. Bartosik shot his uncle several times, resulting in his death, he also shot his cousin, who survived the incident. When police arrived and tried to enter the house, Bartosik shot at the troopers and deputies. Bartosik was eventually apprehended and took a plea deal and was convicted for 2nd degree murder, 4 counts of attempted murder, 3 counts of attempted murder of a police officer, plus criminal use of a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon & 1st degree assault.

State Police arrested 43 year old Todd Seamon of Hartwick for 1st Degree Burglary, after Troopers were dispatched to a report of a burglary on State Route 28 in Schuyler Lake where a victim was assaulted. An investigation revealed that after an on-going dispute, Seamon forced entry into a 77-year-old’s home and struck the victim multiple times causing injuries. The victim was transported to Bassett Hospital with what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries. Troopers located Seamon and he was arrested and processed. Seamon was transported to the Otsego County Correctional Facility for Centralized Arraignment.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 3 people following a traffic stop for a driver known to not have a valid driver’s license. 24 year old Deanna Eignor of Hobart was stopped, her & a passenger, 26-year-old Schoen Stocks of Jefferson were found to have fentanyl, scales and packaging materials in the vehicle. Eignor & Stocks were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, and Eignor was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation & other traffic violations, she had been released on her own recognizance on unrelated charges, & was additionally charged with Criminal Contempt. 28-year-old Wesley Eignor of Hobart was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle after he arrived on the scene & did not have a valid license. Deanna Eignor was held on $5,000 bail, Stocks & Wesley Eignor were released on appearance tickets.

Norwich Police arrested 61 year old Donald Hults of Syracuse, who is a Level 3 Sex Offender, following an investigation into a reported sexual abuse of a child. Norwich Police investigated a complaint that Hults had arrived uninvited at a July 4th gathering in Norwich where he knew nobody in attendance, and inappropriately touched a 10-year-old child. Hults was located in Syracuse he was interviewed by Norwich Police detectives, and was taken into custody and he was charged with 2 counts of Sexual Abuse, plus Forcible Touching, & Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Hults was arraigned in Norwich City Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility, where he is being held without bail pending further court proceedings.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 36 year old Brittney Hall of Harpursville, for 2 counts of Criminal Possession of Narcotics with Intent to Sell, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, following a traffic stop in the Town of Union. Hall faces court action on the charges at a later date.

State DEC announced more than $1.72 million in grants to 6 land trusts for 9 projects that help conserve local forests. The land trusts will purchase new conservation easements that will protect air and water quality, preserve wildlife habitat and biodiversity, support sustainable forest management, and increase outdoor recreation opportunities for the public. Locally, the Otsego Land Trust, will get $54,250 to purchase a conservation easement on the 41-acre Burr Forest property in the town of Westford, adjacent to Betty and Wilbur Davis State Park. The easement property is 90 percent forested, and includes wetlands and hemlock stands, along with large concentrations of native plants.

State Attorney General Letitia James announced that a coalition of 24 Attorney’s General, won a court order that will temporarily protect SNAP benefits. The ruling allowed for a temporary restraining order, which will stop the Trump administration from going after states that approved the release of SNAP benefits for the month of November, The President sent a message to Governors to immediately undo the Snap benefits, Several states, including New York, had already begun issuing the benefits in accordance with the USDA’s Friday memo stating that the agency would soon release full funding.

The Governor’s Office announced an emergency investment of nearly $550,000 in assistance for SUNY community college food pantries and related efforts to help campuses address the ongoing food insecurity crisis as a result of the longest federal government shutdown in United States history. The emergency assistance will help the food pantries located at each of SUNY’s 30 community colleges restock supplies and support students in need, more information is available at suny.edu.

The State DEC announced that the State’s most popular big game hunting season begins on Saturday, November 15 and continues through December 7th. Oneonta Firefighters, with assistance from other area fire departments responded to a blaze at Bordingers Welding and Fabricating on Winney Hill Road Tuesday afternoon. 1 person was taken to Fox hospital for smoke inhalation and was released. The fire caused extensive damage to the business, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s announces the arrest of 31 year old Marcus Borggreen & 26 year old Destiny Grant both of Mt. Upton, following a trespass complaint in the Town of Westford. Deputies were dispatched to a residence for a report of 2 subjects, they were located inside the basement of the residence, and were detained and were in possession of MDMA, narcotic drugs, and several weapons. the pair are facing numerous drug & weapons charges & were transported to the Sheriff’s Office and were turned over to the Jail to be held for Arraignment.

State Police responded to a 3 car crash on I-88 in the town of Sidney Sunday night with 2 people with injuries. At about 5:25 pm a Trooper came upon a 3 vehicle crash on I-88 east near exit 9, where a Chevrolet Malibu operated by 58 year old Ray Saddlemire of Endicott and Dodge pick up towing a camper, driven by 68 year old David Benjamin of Tennessee collided, with the Benjamin vehicle going off the roadway and it overturned, the Saddlemire vehicle was partially in the left lane when it was struck by a Honda driven by 68 year old Gerald Hawkes of Ithaca. Saddlemire & Benjamin were taken to Wilson Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Hawkes was not injured.

State Police are continuing the investigation into a shooting on the SUNY Morrisville Campus Monday, where a 20 year old man who was not a student was shot in the neck. The victim was taken to a Syracuse area Hospital, no arrests have been made, The preliminary investigation into the shooting has determined that this was an isolated dispute between people who were familiar with each other. The investigation remains active, and State Police are working closely with our state and local law enforcement partners.

North Country Congresswoman Elise Stefanik announced on Social Media today that she will seek the Republican Party Nomination to run for Governor of New York, next year. Governor Hochul announced that the last statewide Free Fishing Day of 2025 will occur Tuesday, to mark Veterans Day. State Police arrested 20 year old Ashton Pratt and 30 year old Amy Mills both of Glen Aubrey, for 1st & 2nd Degree Assault, NY, on Tuesday, Troopers responded to a stabbing on State Route 26 in the town of Nanticoke, where a road rage incident between 2 vehicles escalated into a violent altercation, resulting in a 40-year-old male victim being stabbed. The victim reported that a male and female exited their vehicle, Mills is accused of grabbing the victim by his sweatshirt, while Pratt is accused of stabbing the victim in the upper body, they fled the area, The victim was transported to Wilson Hospital for treatment; his injuries are not considered life-threatening. Through a collaborative effort among multiple State Police units, both suspects were located on Wednesday and were taken into custody without incident. Pratt and Mills were processed and transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility for Arraignment, The investigation is ongoing.

State Police have identified the woman who drive into a pong in Richfield Springs earlier this week as 39 year old Rachel Galesky of Richfield Springs. State Police were dispatched Tuesday Morning to the site of a pond at Skinner Road & US Route 20 after a passerby called 911 after observing what appeared to be a portion of a vehicle submerged in the pond. Troopers located the vehicle and discovered Galesky inside, they determined that she failed to stop at a stop sign and drove into the pond, The investigation is continuing.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is demanding an end to the Federal government shutdown, so that Congress can act on an extension of the tax credits that help small businesses, their employees, and self-employed individuals afford health care.

Gillibrand said that without an extension, ACA enhanced premium tax credits will expire at the end of 2025, causing over 20 million Americans–including 4.4 million small business owners and self-employed individuals–to see a drastic increase in health insurance costs, which could force individuals to make a choice of either going without insurance or pay for premiums they cannot afford. An 18-year-old male from Plainview is in custody after stealing a marked New York State Police patrol vehicle. Wednesday morning, Oneonta Troopers were notified of a burglary that occurred overnight at Accurate Auto and Truck Repair LLC in Davenport, where a State Police patrol vehicle that had been undergoing service & was taken from the premises. No weapons were inside the car at the time it was taken. The vehicle was located on I- 90 in Schodack, Rensselaer County, Troopers located the 18-year-old male inside and took him into custody without incident. The individual was arraigned in the Town of Schodack Court and charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, He was turned over to investigators from Troop C, where he was additionally charged with Burglary and Grand Larceny, The investigation remains ongoing.

State Police responded to Wednesday afternoon to State Highway 17 in the town of Hancock for a report of a crash in a work zone. An investigation revealed that a Toyota Corolla, operated by 90 year old Mohamed Rawoof of Mahwah, New Jersey struck a State DOT skid steer operated by a DOT employee in the left lane of a marked construction zone. Both Rawoof and the DOT employee were transported to Wilson Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

With the Federal Government shutdown and the SNAP program closed down, area food pantries are extremely busy with existing clients & new clients coming in to get food for their families, Elaine Reed of the Unadilla Food Pantry comments:

The Unadilla Food Pantry is located at 172 Main Street in Unadilla, also the Mobile Food Pantry sets up at the corner of State Route 7 and 8 on the 1st & 3rd Fridays of each month, starting at 1:00 PM, they will be there this Friday for those in need.

State Police are investigating an incident in which a marked State Police patrol vehicle was reported stolen in the early morning hours TODAY. Troopers from the Oneonta Barracks were notified that a local repair shop had been burglarized overnight, and a State Police vehicle that had been undergoing service at the location was taken, The vehicle was later located and recovered in Rensselaer County, A person found inside the vehicle was taken into custody and is currently being interviewed by investigators. The investigation remains ongoing.

40 year old David Tyner pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in Broome County Court, in exchange for a sentence of 5 years in State Prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision. On July 31, 2024, in Binghamton, Tyner was found in possession of methamphetamine with the intent to sell, the discovery occurred after Tyner was stopped by Binghamton Police for violating Traffic Laws while operating a motorized bicycle.

Initial results are in for yesterday’s elections, in The Town of Sidney Eric Wilson wins re-election for Town Supervisor, the 2 seats on the Sidney Town Board, go to Andrew Hinkley & Frank Selleck. The Sidney Town Justice winner is Jennifer Ruling. In Area Town Supervisor races, in Guilford Gilda Ward is the winner, in Unadilla George Denys wins easily, in the town of Colchester, the winner is Robert Hafele, in the town of Oneonta, the winner is William Rivera Jr.. The Cities of Norwich and Oneonta will have new Mayors, Robert Jeffery will be Norwich’s next mayor, in Oneonta the winner is Dan Butterman. In the race for Delaware County Treasurer, the winner is Carli Pinner.

State Police were dispatched to a report of a vehicle in a pond near the intersection of U.S. Route 20 and Skinner Road in the town of Richfield Springs. A passerby called 911 after observing a portion of the vehicle, Troopers located the vehicle and discovered a deceased victim inside. A preliminary investigation determined that a 39-year-old female from Richfield Springs failed to stop at a stop sign at Cole Hill Road at the intersection and continued into the pond. Members of the Underwater Recovery Team assisted on scene. The investigation is continuing.
