NEWS WEDNESDAY 4-24-13"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>State Police Reported that 71-year-old Barbara Cadwell died in the blaze at 311 Tunnel Road in the town of Fenton Tuesday morning.\u00a0 Firefighters responded to the blaze at around 4:29 AM to find the home engulfed in flames, the cause of Cadwell\u2019s death has been ruled as asphyxiation due to smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning, The manner of death was determined to be accidental.\u00a0 The Investigation revealed the fire originated from a wood stove.\u00a0 Firefighters from Sanitaria Springs, Port Crane and Harpursville fought Tuesday\u2019s fire, no injuries were reported.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>The State Labor Department released preliminary local area unemployment rates for March. The state&#8217;s unemployment rate was at 8.1% for March, locally Chenango County improved 6\/10ths to 8.6%, Delaware County\u2019s rate dropped 1% to 9.4% and Otsego County\u2019s rate also dropped 1% to 8.2%.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>The Chenango County Sheriff\u2019s Office will again be partnering with the U.S. DEA on Saturday in the National \u201cTake Back\u201d Initiative.\u00a0 The purpose of the initiative is to help prevent prescription drug diversion, &amp; it prevents unused drugs from entering the ground water and municipal water supplies.\u00a0 The Sheriff\u2019s Office will be staffing collections at the Sheriff\u2019s Office Sub-Station at the Coventry Town Hall on State Route 235.\u00a0 The Sheriff\u2019s Office will also be collecting unused medications at the North Norwich fire Station on State Route 12.\u00a0 The collection sites are open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Congressman Chris Gibson announced the formation of a Watershed Advisory Group to l work on issues related to the New York City Watershed. Currently,\u00a0 the entire Upstate portion is encompassed in one Congressional District, Gibson said that the group\u00a0 would bring together\u00a0 residents, state and local officials, farmers, small business owners and others &#8211; to gather feedback and identify solutions.\u00a0 those wishing to participate can visit the Congressman&#8217;s website:<a href=\"http:\/\/gibson.house.gov\/watershed\" target=\"_blank\"> gibson.house.gov\/watershed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 26-year-old Amber Towndrow of Oxford for\u00a0 2<sup>nd<\/sup> degree Harassment and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.\u00a0 Deputies reported that while at Towndrow\u2019s residence arresting another person on an active arrest warrant, Amber Towndrow shoved a Deputy\u00a0 while holding a 1 year old child &amp; used profane language on several occasions during this incident in front of the child.\u00a0 Towndrow was arraigned in the Village of Oxford Court and remanded to the custody of the Sheriff on $5,000 Cash bail &amp; will reappear in the Village of Oxford Court at a later date.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Officials with the NY Alert system announced that individuals in numerous states are receiving solicitation phone calls with a caller ID of NY-Alert\u00a0 from the phone number 518- 292-6634.\u00a0 officials said that these calls are\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0originating from NY-Alert &amp; that \u00a0 Caller ID spoofing is being used to display NY-Alert on the telephone display.\u00a0 Officials said that hang up &amp; never give any personal information to those callers.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>New York State Safe Boating week is May 18th through the 24<sup>th<\/sup>, the Chenango County Sheriff&#8217;s Office will be hosting a Boater Safety Course and &#8220;Ready, Set, Wear it&#8221; event. The &#8220;Ready, Set, Wear It&#8221; is a program set to encourage all boaters to wear life jackets while boating.
