New York lawmakers are expected to conclude work on the state budget by the end of the day today. The budget is expected to spend a record 200 Billion dollars & is expected to include an increase in taxes on the state’s top wage earners, something that governor Cuomo vowed not to do throughout the pandemic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli announced that Job losses from the pandemic and the economic shutdown were swift and deep as employment declined by nearly 2 million jobs from February to April 2020. The State Department of Labor showed that less than half of the jobs lost during that time have been recovered, and employment is still more than 1 million jobs below its pre-pandemic levels. The leisure and hospitality sector has added the greatest number of jobs, nearly 260,000, while the construction industry is farthest along in its recovery, regaining 74 percent of jobs lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

State Police arrested 37 year old Eric Brimlow of Worcester for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, after a trooper observed a vehicle at a high rate of speed on I-88 in the town of Worcester. Brimlow failed field sobriety tests; he was processed and issued appearance tickets to the town of Worcester court on April 13th. Brimlow was one of 50 drivers arrested for DWI or similar charges in the Troop C area in the month of March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chenango County Public Health continues to report 132 Active COVID Cases, with 9 hospitalized & 453 Quarantines. Chenango County has had 2879 Total Confirmed Cases since the pandemic started, with 2597 recoveries, & 65 deaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Fundraiser is underway to replace a failing 10 year old ambulance owned by the Village of Sherburne, Village Mayor Bill Acee explains:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mayor Acee said that they need about $150,000 to purchase a fully equipped ambulance that would be ready to go on day one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over 10 million COVID vaccine doses have been administered in New York State, according to the latest State Health Department statistics. 1 in 3 new Yorkers have had at least 1 dose of a vaccine & nearly 1 in 5 have received are fully vaccinated. Starting today UHS & Lourdes hospitals will ease visitation restrictions. Visitors will be required to wear a mask, use designation entrances, & will be screened before entry. 2 visitors will be allowed per adult patients in single rooms & 1 visitor per patient in double rooms. . Lourdes, Wilson & Binghamton General Will have visitations from 3:00 to 7:00 PM daily & UHS Chenango Memorial in Norwich & UHS Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton will have visiting hours from 9:00 to 11:00 AM & 4:00 to 6:00 PM daily. Visitor\u2019s restrictions will be different for pediatric patients, maternity patients & in the emergency rooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About 400 NYSEG customers in Sidney lost power Easter Sunday after a transformer fire on Patterson Street. NYSEG reported that power was out for the Sidney Customers from about 10 hours Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Norwich Police arrested 44 year old John Earl Bush Sr. of Sherburne for Robbery, Burglary, menacing & Petty Larceny Charges. Bush is accused of breaking down the door of a Norwich home, robbing an individual at knifepoint & leaving the scene with property & cash. Bush was arraigned in Norwich City Court & was being held without bail pending future court action. Norwich Police were assisted by New York State Parole & the Chenango County District Attorney\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
