{"id":7593,"date":"2020-03-23T15:17:35","date_gmt":"2020-03-23T19:17:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/?p=7593"},"modified":"2020-03-23T15:17:35","modified_gmt":"2020-03-23T19:17:35","slug":"wcdo-news-monday-3-23-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/wcdo-news-monday-3-23-20\/","title":{"rendered":"WCDO NEWS MONDAY 3-23-20"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The\ntotal number of Coronavirus cases in New York State jumped up by another 5700\nsince Sunday, bringing the total above 20,800.&nbsp;\nGovernor Cuomo will sign an executive order to mandate that hospitals\nincrease capacity by 50%, and he is still asking the federal Government to\ninvoke a wartime law to mandate that companies make needed healthcare items\nlike masks, scrubs &amp; ventilators, to stop the bidding war between the\nstates that are trying to acquire these items:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>(Cuomo\n3-23-20)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tomorrow,\ntesting will begin on anti-malaria drugs to see if they can help lower the\nnumber of Coronavirus cases across the state.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Otsego\nCounty Health Department announced that they have had their first positive\nCoronavirus test.&nbsp; The individual was in\nclose contact with another person who had tested positive in another county,\nthat person is quarantined &amp; close contacts have been notified.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The New\nYork State Public High School Athletic Association announced today that they\nare officially cancelling the 2020 winter state championships. The sports that\nwere still left to play were boys and girls basketball, bowling and ice hockey.\nPlans are being developed to honor and formally recognize the students and\nteams who qualified to participate in these championship events. The status of\nthe spring state championships will be determined on or prior to Monday, April\n27th. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The New\nYork State Academy of Family Physicians has released a new statement linking\nTobacco use and Covid-19.&nbsp; New Research\nindicates that Patients who use tobacco are 14 times more likely to have\nCovid-19 progression; they support the total ban for Tobacco products due to\nthe coronavirus pandemic.&nbsp; Those thinking\nabout quitting can call the Smokers&#8217; Quitline at 1-866-697-8487<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Delaware\nCounty Board of Supervisors Chairperson Tina Mole is asking people from outside\nof the county, to not visit here at this time.&nbsp;\nMole also reminded residents that Congregations of more than 50 persons\nare a direct violation of the Governor&#8217;s Executive Order &amp; it could quickly\noverwhelm the County healthcare system if there is a large influx of\ncoronavirus cases.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>New\nYork State put out a call for retired healthcare professionals to enlist in the\nstate&#8217;s Coronavirus response &amp; they also called on qualified medical &amp;\nnursing school students to enlist.&nbsp;\nGovernor Cuomo stated that 30,000 people have responded, but more are\nneeded, they can enlist health.ny.gov\/assistance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>State\nSenator Fred Akshar and Assemblyman Cliff Crouch are not happy with a mailing\nsent out by Republican Assembly Candidate Nick Libous, Assemblyman Crouch\ncomments:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>(Cliff\nCrouch 3-23-20)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Assemblyman\nCrouch announced that he would not seek re-election after 25 years in the State\nAssembly, leading to a number of candidates coming forward to replace him,\n&amp; he promptly endorsed former Norwich police chief, Fireman &amp; Military\ncombat veteran Joe Angelino for his Assembly Seat.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>President\nDonald Trump has approved a major disaster declaration for New York due to the\ncoronavirus outbreak.&nbsp; The FEMA announced\nfederal disaster assistance is available to New York to supplement coronavirus\nrecovery efforts.&nbsp; The move makes federal\ncrisis counseling funds available to affected individuals in all areas of the\nstate.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Delaware\nCounty received 2 new positive reports Saturday, 1 positive case do not reside\nin Delaware County; the case was transferred to New York City Health\nDepartment. Currently, Delaware County has 2 confirmed positive cases of\nCOVID-19, they are unrelated. Delaware County Public Health Services in\npartnership with the New York State Department of Health, local hospitals and\nhealthcare providers is actively investigating these cases and providing\nguidance on reducing the spread (i.e., quarantine, cleaning and other recommendations)\nas appropriate. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Broome\nCounty Executive Jason Garnar announced Saturday that the 1st person in Broome\nCounty has died from the coronavirus in Lourdes Hospital. The individual was a\nnew case in addition to those 2 previously announced late last week; the Broome\nCounty Health Department is trying to locate all those who came in contact with\nthe deceased for testing &amp; possible quarantine.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The\nBainbridge Guilford Central School district announced that 1 member of their\nstaff has tested positive for the Coronavirus, they do not believe that there\nwas any contact at the school &amp; there should be no risk to staff or\nstudents at this time.&nbsp; The investigation\nis ongoing.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The\nDelaware County Clerk has announced that All Department of Motor Vehicles\nOffices will be closed as of Monday March 23, 2020 until further notice.&nbsp; This is in compliance with the Executive\nOrder of Governor Cuomo on March 20, 2020.&nbsp;\nThis order supersedes the previous posting of reduced hours for\nDepartment of Motor Vehicle Offices in Delaware County.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Governor\nCuomo announced that those who run a New York State business that collects\nsales tax, that were supposed to file Quarterly tax return on Friday,&nbsp;
