{"id":7576,"date":"2020-03-13T15:27:40","date_gmt":"2020-03-13T19:27:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/?p=7576"},"modified":"2020-03-13T15:27:40","modified_gmt":"2020-03-13T19:27:40","slug":"wcdo-news-friday-3-13-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/wcdo-news-friday-3-13-20\/","title":{"rendered":"WCDO NEWS FRIDAY 3-13-20"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Governor\nCuomo &amp; the State Health Department announced the latest situation today\nregarding the Coronavirus.&nbsp; The state\nHealth Department is in contact with the 28 private labs, to get them up to\nspeed for testing for the virus, they expect to double the number of testing\nnext to 6000 a day.&nbsp; Today there are 421 confirmed\ncases of the Coronavirus in New York State, 50 people are hospitalized, there\nhave been no deaths in New York State, and there are 41 nationwide, 31 in the\nState of Washington.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Delaware\nCounty Public Health confirmed 1 case of the Coronavirus or COVID-19 in the\nCounty, Public Health Spokesperson Heather Warner explains:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>(Heather\nWarner 3-13-20)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Warner\nsaid that they are not at liberty to disclose the location of the patient at\nthis time, more information about the Coronavirus is available at Delaware\ncounty public health.com.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Delaware\nCounty Sheriff&#8217;s Office is investigating an on-line computer repair scam that\nled to significant financial loss to an elderly local resident.&nbsp; Investigators were contacted by The Delaware\nNational Bank of Delhi, the customer had fallen victim twice to an on-line\nPop-Up scam and lost thousands of dollars, the victim was stopped from further\nissues by an alert UPS employee. The investigation is on-going by Delaware\nCounty Sheriff&#8217;s Investigators and San Diego County Sheriff\u2019s Office.&nbsp; Sheriff DuMond reminds the public that they\nshould contact the Sheriff&#8217;s Office or local law enforcement if they may be the\ntarget of a scam or identity theft.&nbsp; On-line\ncomplaint forms are available through the State Attorney General, ag.ny.gov;\nthe Federal Trade Commission, consumer.ftc.gov; and the FBI at ic3.gov.&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Officials\nwith Quest Diagnostics announced that the AMBA Blood Clinic will continue as\nplanned tomorrow morning at the Sidney Elks Lodge.&nbsp; The event will run from 6:00 AM to 9:30 AM,\nofficials said that just over 80 people have made appointments, spread out over\nthe 3 1\/2 hours, which falls within the parameters set by the State Health\nDepartment Thursday.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>State\nPolice will increase patrols to combat drunk, impaired and reckless driving as\nSt. Patrick\u2019s Day celebrations get underway this weekend. This enforcement\ndetail begins today and runs through next Wednesday.&nbsp; Drivers can expect to encounter additional\nDWI patrols and a number of sobriety checkpoints during the enforcement period.\nState Police will also be ticketing districted drivers who are using handheld\nelectronic devices, and will also conduct underage drinking and unlawful sales\nto minor\u2019s details during the campaign.&nbsp;\nThe Governor&#8217;s Traffic Safety Committee &amp; the State STOP-DWI\nFoundation suggest that people download the &#8220;Have a Plan&#8221; mobile app,\nto locate and call a taxi service and program a designated driver list. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The\nCommunity Foundation for South Central New York has released a survey to assess\nthe COVID-19-related needs of local non-profits and the individuals and\ncommunities they serve.&nbsp;&nbsp; The survey will\nprovide information on critical operating and programming issues that are\nanticipated as the COVID-19 situation progresses locally, it is located at\ndonorswhocare.org.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The\nChenango County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution to implement a 4%\noccupancy &#8220;Bed&#8221; tax in Chenango County. The new Law will provide a\ndedicated funding stream to promote and develop the tourism industry in\nChenango County and to reduce pressure on the property tax levy.&nbsp; Chenango County has been one of just a few\ncounties in New York State that had not previously collected a bed tax.&nbsp;&nbsp; Tourism is New York\u2019s 3rd largest industry,\nhosting 253 million visitors annually who spend 71.8 billion at NYS businesses\ncreating 114.8 billion in economic impact.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The New\nYork State Public High School Athletic Association announced that regional\n&amp; state championships will be postponed indefinitely.&nbsp; The impacted events include Ice Hockey, Bowling\n&amp; the Boys &amp; Girls Basketball regional &amp; State Championships.&nbsp; Officials announced the postponements were\ndue to the reports of the Corona Virus outbreaks across the state, to insure\nthe safety &amp; health of the student athletes.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The St.\nBaldrick\u2019s Foundation will host head-shaving events tomorrow at the American\nLegion in Norwich, where over 30 volunteers will shave their heads to raise\nmoney for childhood cancer research.&nbsp;&nbsp;\nThe Norwich St. Baldrick\u2019s event routinely raises over $30,000 a year,\ntheir event starts at 6:00 PM, it is free and open to the public, more\ninformation is available at stbaldricks.org\/events\/Norwich<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The\nSidney Chamber of Commerce has decided to cancel the 3rd Annual Sidney- Irish for\na Day Parade Saturday, due to health concerns related to the coronavirus.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The\nSidney Rotary Club announced that they are cancelling their Pancake Breakfast\nSaturday.&nbsp; The event is being cancelled\ndue to the Coronavirus concerns.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The\nAmerican Hockey League announced the suspension of play until further notice\ndue to the COVID-19 health and safety concerns of players, officials, staff and\nfans.&nbsp; The Binghamton Devils will post\npertinent ticketing information to social media, as well as send email updates\ndirectly to season ticket members, sponsors and group buyers.
