{"id":7539,"date":"2020-02-27T14:46:59","date_gmt":"2020-02-27T19:46:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/?p=7539"},"modified":"2020-02-27T14:47:24","modified_gmt":"2020-02-27T19:47:24","slug":"wcdo-news-thursday-2-27-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/wcdo-news-thursday-2-27-20\/","title":{"rendered":"WCDO NEWS THURSDAY 2-27-20"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>41 year old Nasir Azmat of Franklin\nis due&nbsp; in Town of Franklin court tonight\nto answer to more than 40 counts relating to animal cruelty, Delaware County\nSheriff Craig DuMond said that it remains to be seen if Azmat shows up for\ncourt tonight:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>(Sheriff DuMond 2-27-20)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Azmat&#8217;s court appearance is scheduled for 6:00 PM tonight in Franklin Town Court, 20 dogs allegedly used for dog fighting were taken from his property earlier this month by the Delaware County Sheriff&#8217;s Department<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Otsego County Sheriff&#8217;s Office\nconfirmed that 5 firefighters were injured in a Middlefield garage fire on\nOtsego County Route 35.&nbsp; The firefighters\nwere injured following at least 1 explosion inside the garage, the injured were\ntaken to Bassett Hospital, and state fire officials are investigating.&nbsp; Firefighters from Middlefield, Cooperstown,\nWestford, Cherry Valley, and Milford responded to the fire Wednesday night.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The public is invited to attend a\nDelaware County Chamber of Commerce sponsored roundtable discussion on the\nstate and future of Delaware County and how to remove barriers to community\ngrowth.&nbsp; The Event will be held on\nTuesday, March 24th at 11:30 AM &amp; includes a luncheon buffet prepared by\nSUNY Delhi culinary arts students at Bluestone.&nbsp;\nReservations are required at delawarecounty.org or by calling 746-2281.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Tri-town Coalition on Substance\nAbuse Prevention announced that their meeting originally scheduled for tonight\nin Sidney has been cancelled due to the weather.&nbsp;&nbsp; The next meeting will be held on March 26th\nat the Sidney School.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Sidney Chamber of Commerce is\nseeking nominations for their annual Citizen of the Years &amp; Business of the\nYears Awards; Sidney Chamber President Teri Schunk told WCDO News that they are\nadding 2 more awards this year:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>(Teri Schunk 2-27-20)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The winners of the awards will be\nhonored at the Sidney Chamber Annual Dinner in June.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Village of Delhi Police\nDepartment arrested 23-year-old Shakiea Goodwin of Brooklyn for 2 counts of\nCriminal Possession of a Forged Instrument. Goodwin is accused of passing\ncounterfeit $50 bills at a local garage to pay the tow bill on a vehicle that\nhad been impounded by the police over the previous weekend.
