{"id":7422,"date":"2019-12-30T14:29:04","date_gmt":"2019-12-30T19:29:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/?p=7422"},"modified":"2019-12-30T14:29:04","modified_gmt":"2019-12-30T19:29:04","slug":"wcdo-news-monday-12-30-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/wcdo-news-monday-12-30-19\/","title":{"rendered":"WCDO NEWS MONDAY 12-30-19"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Governor\nCuomo will not change his mind on a new bail reform law signed earlier this\nyear that goes into effect Wednesday.&nbsp;\nDelaware County Sheriff Craig Dumond opposes the law:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>(Dumond\n12-30-19)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The new law blocks judges from jailing defendants on bail for misdemeanors or nonviolent felonies.  those accused will instead be released and ordered to return for their next court date.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Temporary\nlane closures for road and bridge construction projects on New York State\nhighways will be suspended from 6:00 AM Tuesday, December 31, through 6:00\nThursday, January 2nd.&nbsp; Some work may\ncontinue behind concrete barriers or for emergency repairs.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>NYSEG officials reported that a few hundred customers had power outages this afternoon due to the weather.\u00a0 75 customers were without power in Broome County, 250 were without power in Otsego County, and over 1500 in Sullivan County, where the bulk of the icy precipitation is expected through midnight tonight.\u00a0 NYSEG has crews ready for the expected power outages from the ice, in the eastern counties of the state.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Several\nnew laws go into effect this week on New Year&#8217;s Day.&nbsp; Starting January 1st, farmworkers across New\nYork have the right to unionize. The new law also requires farmers to set a\n60-hour work week for workers and allow them at least 24 consecutive hours of\nrest each week. Also, the state&#8217;s Minimum wage will increase; Workers across\nUpstate will get a new minimum wage to $11.80 an hour.&nbsp; Also on January 1st, Health insurers must\nlimit co-pays or co-insurance for outpatient mental health treatment and\ntreatment for addiction. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>State Comptroller Tom\nDiNapoli is urging New Yorkers this holiday season to read the fine print on\ngift cards for details about fees and expiration dates. While some gift cards\nsellers have eliminated inactivity fees, consumers should still ask whether fees\napply. DiNapoli also reminds recipients to spend their new gift cards in a\ntimely manner, otherwise the money could eventually get turned over to the\nOffice of Unclaimed Funds. <\/strong><strong>DiNapoli\u2019s office is currently holding more than $16 billion\nin unclaimed funds. The legislation would also authorize the\nState Department of Health to regulate the sale of chemicals used in\nvaping-related products and ban the sale of vaping product carrier oils deemed\nto be a public health risk.
