{"id":7406,"date":"2019-12-20T13:42:29","date_gmt":"2019-12-20T18:42:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/?p=7406"},"modified":"2019-12-20T13:42:29","modified_gmt":"2019-12-20T18:42:29","slug":"wcdo-news-friday-12-20-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/wcdo-news-friday-12-20-19\/","title":{"rendered":"WCDO NEWS FRIDAY 12-20-19"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>State Senator Jim Seward announced\nthat $25,000 was awarded to the Schenevus Central School District as part of\nthe Regional Economic Development Council awards.&nbsp; Seward released a statement saying that the\n$25,000 REDC grant will help cover costs for a merger feasibility study with\nWorcester and allow Schenevus school officials to explore all possible options\nas they plan for the best future for students and taxpayers.&nbsp; Seward sponsored legislation this year that\nwas signed into law authorizing advanced state aid payments to assist the\nstruggling Schenevus school district.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The State Legislature may consider a\nnew law next year, to require sex abuse background checks for people looking to\nbecome mall Santa\u2019s.&nbsp;&nbsp; Currently there is\nno requirement for backgrounds checks for anyone serving as a Santa, Easter\nBunny, or any other popular children\u2019s character. The bill is proposed by State\nSenator James Skoufis of Orange County.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Governor Cuomo proposes that New York\nState crack down on retailers who illegally sell out-of-state, untaxed\ncigarettes.&nbsp;&nbsp; Cuomo said that New York\ncurrently has the 2nd highest tax rate on cigarettes in the nation; the law\nwould also allow state regulators to shut down retailers who sell tobacco\nproducts to underage New Yorkers.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Centers for Disease Control and\nPrevention announced Thursday it has confirmed 138 cases of E. coli in 25 states.&nbsp; Consumers should continue to avoid romaine\nlettuce from Salinas, California, where investigations have found a common\ngrower.&nbsp; If the location of the romaine\nlettuce isn&#8217;t listed, the CDC still warns consumers to avoid it.&nbsp; Of the 138 total cases, 72 have resulted in\nhospitalizations, with 13 people developing kidney failure, so far, No deaths\nhave been reported.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>State Police will be\nout in full force over the Christmas &amp; New Year&#8217;s holidays this year.&nbsp; Police will be on the lookout for speeding,\ndistracted drivers, intoxicated or impaired drivers, road rage and they will be\nmaking sure that motorists are buckled up; they will also pay special attention\nto violators of the state&#8217;s &#8220;Move Over&#8221; law<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Governor Cuomo announced that more\nthan $761 million in economic and community development funding has been\nawarded through Round 9 of the Regional Economic Development Council\ninitiative.&nbsp;&nbsp; Locally, The Southern Tier\nwill receive $88.9 million supporting 109 projects, Central New York will get $86.2\nmillion supporting 93 projects &amp; the Mohawk Valley receives $82.7 million\nsupporting 81 projects <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The First Presbyterian Church of\nGilbertsville will host a &#8220;DRIVE-THROUGH&#8221; LIVING NATIVITY on Sunday\nfrom 6:00 &#8211; 8:00 PM in the church parking lot located at 19 Marion Avenue\/\nState Route 51 in Gilbertsville.&nbsp; Cars\nwill be guided to enter the church parking lot on the right.
