Sunday was “World AIDS Day”\nGovernor Cuomo announced that the number of new HIV infections continues to\nfall to historically low levels. The new data further validates that New York’s\naggressive actions are keeping the state on track to achieve Governor Cuomo’s\ngoal of “Ending the Epidemic” by the end of 2020. Additionally, data\nfrom 2018 shows 82 percent of newly diagnosed New Yorkers were connected with\ncare within 30 days of being newly diagnosed with HIV.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 1st Congregational Church of\nSidney will close its doors at the end of the Month.  The church opened in 1808, Pastor Patricia\nRobinson is retiring & the Board of Directors decided to shut the doors as\nmembership has declined to about 50.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

State Police & Broome County\nEmergency crews responded to a 20 car pile-up on I-81 in the town of Barker\nnear Castle Creek Sunday afternoon.  The\ncrash was due to slick roads from the freezing rain & snow, no injuries\nwere reported, the investigation is continuing.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governor Cuomo today signed\nlegislation enacting the Nuisance Call Act, which closes a loophole in the Do\nNot Call Registry and requires live telemarketers to give consumers the option\nto be added to the seller’s do-not-call list. It also requires telemarketers to\nhave a consumer’s written consent before sharing or selling their contact\ninformation.   The legislation takes\neffect in 90 days.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governor Cuomo today announced the\ndeployment of state assets to regions of the state hit hardest by the winter\nstorm.  The State DOT has deployed over\n2200 pieces of equipment to clear roads around the state.  Governor Cuomo also directed non-essential\nstate employees in the affected areas, to not report to work today.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest financial report from the\nCuomo administration shows the state is facing a more than $6 billion budget\nshortfall in the next fiscal year.  The\nbiggest spending growth is for Medicaid payments, where, in recent years, the\nstate has deferred some Medicaid expenses from one year to the next to balance\nthe books.  Governor Cuomo will outline\nin January his plans to balance the next budget.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

US Senators Kirsten Gillibrand &\nChuck Schumer announced that $238,083 in federal funding will go to the\nAddiction Center of Broome County in Binghamton to combat opioid abuse and\naddiction.  The Senators announced that\nthe funding comes from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy\nand it will be used to evaluate community efforts to address and combat the\nopioid epidemic.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

State Lawmakers are proposing to\nequip state troopers with body cameras.   \nThe camera proposal was introduced this fall; it could be passed as part\nof the next legislative session in January. \nMany Law Enforcement Agencies around the state have already implemented\nBody Cameras & Dashboard Cameras systems.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
