{"id":7320,"date":"2019-11-06T14:31:27","date_gmt":"2019-11-06T19:31:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/?p=7320"},"modified":"2019-11-06T14:31:27","modified_gmt":"2019-11-06T19:31:27","slug":"wcdo-news-wednesday-11-6-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/wcdo-news-wednesday-11-6-19\/","title":{"rendered":"WCDO NEWS WEDNESDAY 11-6-19"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>State\nSenator Jim Seward announced today that the cancer he first experienced in 2016\nhas recurred.&nbsp; Seward said that his\ndoctors have recommended a series of treatments over the next several weeks\nthat will curtail his schedule around the district, but his office will still\nbe open.&nbsp; Seward expects to return in\ntime for the new legislative session in January.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The\nOneonta Common Council voted Tuesday night to sell a portion of the Dietz\nStreet municipal parking lot for the &#8220;Lofts on Dietz&#8221; Project, which\ncalls for housing for artists &amp; classrooms for Hartwick College.&nbsp; About 115 parking spots will be eliminated\nfor the project, 600 will still remain, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Governor\nCuomo signed legislation prohibiting landlords from collecting rent or\nmaintaining a nonpayment eviction proceeding during the period for which there\nis no valid certificate of occupancy. This law also prohibits tenants and\nowners from living in a residence that does not have a valid certificate of\noccupancy. The law would expand existing laws to cover cities with a population\nof less than 325,000 people. The law goes into effect immediately.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The\nSidney, Bainbridge &amp; Unadilla Chambers of Commerce will hold a Tri-Town\nBusiness Mixer on Wednesday November 13th, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.&nbsp; The event will be held at 55 Union Street in\nSidney, RSVP&#8217;s are requested by this Friday at 561-2642.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The\nresults are in for area elections, for the State Supreme Court 6th district,\nthe 3 winners are Republicans Chris Baker, Oliver Blaise &amp; Mark\nMasler.&nbsp; In the Sidney Town Clerk&#8217;s Race,\nSheila Paul wins over incumbent Lisa French.&nbsp;\nIn Chenango County key races, the Norwich mayor will be Republican Shawn\nSastri, in the Norwich city council races, the winner in Ward 3 is Nancy\nAllaire &amp; in Ward 5, David Zieno.&nbsp;\nThe Town of Coventry Supervisor is Republican Jennifer Boudreau.&nbsp; Guilford Supervisor George Senek is\nre-elected over write in candidate Dan Harrington, in the Guilford Town Council,\nTerence Ives &amp; Gilda Ward win over 3 others.&nbsp; In the Town of Bainbridge Council: Robert\nEvans wins, the Town of Norwich Supervisor winner is Stanley Foulds, the Town\nof Pharsalia Supervisor is Jeremiah Micklas.&nbsp;\nIn the Otsego County Board of Representatives races, the winners are, in\ndistrict 2: Michele Farwell, District 3:&nbsp;\nRick Brockway, District 14: Jill Basile.&nbsp;\nThe Laurens Town Supervisor race is won by Republican David Neske, &nbsp;In the City of Oneonta Common Council races,\nthe winners are, in Ward 2: Mark Davies, Ward 4: Kaytee Lipari Shue, Ward 5:\nLeonard Carson, Jr., Ward 6: Scott Harrington, Ward 8: Mark Drnek.&nbsp; In the Broome County District Attorney:\nLibertarian Michael Korchak leads by a slim margin over Republican Paul\nBattisti, with absentee votes yet to be counted.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>===============================<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Governor\nCuomo signed legislation requiring that death certificates in cases of opioid\noverdose specify which opioid was involved in the death, if known. This new law\nrequires that information be recorded so that more data will be available to\nbetter address the opioid crisis.&nbsp;&nbsp; Under\ncurrent law, if a person dies of an opioid overdose, there is no requirement\nthat the death certificate specify which opioid was involved.
