Clocks\nwill get turned back 1 hour this Saturday night, as part of the Daylight\nSavings Time System; local fire departments urge residents to replace the\nbatteries in their smoke detectors, or replace the old detectors with the new\nones with 10 Lithium Batteries this weekend. \nDave Welch of the Unadilla Fire Department explains:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Statistics\nshow that in 60% of fire deaths, there was no smoke detector present, & in\nover 40%, the smoke detectors didn\u2019t work or had no batteries.  New York is leading the nation with 92\ncivilian fire deaths this year.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nOneonta Police Department announced that Due to today’s inclement weather, the\n2019 Halloween parade and cider & donuts in the Parking Garage have been\ncancelled. Governor\nCuomo signed legislation to establish a uniform poll closing process on\nelection nights and authorize the consolidation of certain election districts\nwith fewer than 10 eligible voters.  This\nnew law establishes a uniform procedure for winding down poll sites across the\nState at the end of an election day. \nThis law takes effect immediately<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Free, 5-gallon pails of remixed exterior latex paint will be available beginning Monday, November 11th to non-profit agencies and Otsego County residents.\u00a0 The paint will be available free of charge on a first come first serve basis.\u00a0\u00a0 The paint was collected as part of the county\u2019s annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day held this past September.\u00a0 Paint collected during the event was re-mixed and packaged for distribution by Golden Artist Colors; more information is available at 547-4225. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

State\nPolice conducted an Underage Drinker Initiative detail on Thursday, October\n24th, in Otsego and Delaware Counties. \n19-year-old Clarence Vanier at Taylors Mini Mart at 472 East Main Street\nin Oneonta was issued an appearance ticket for Unlawful Sale of Alcohol to a\nMinor, he will appear in the Oneonta City Court on November 18th.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
