The 2019 Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded to M.\nStanley Whittingham, who is a distinguished professor of chemistry and\nmaterials science at Binghamton University. \nWhittingham won the prize for pioneering research leading to the\ndevelopment of the lithium-ion battery along with John Goodenough and Akira\nYoshino. Whittingham came to Binghamton\nUniversity in 1988 after 16 years at Exxon Research and Engineering Company,\nwhere he received the patent for a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. The 3 winners will share a prize of $910,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governor Cuomo signed legislation prohibiting ambulance and\nfirst response service providers from disclosing or selling private patient\ninformation to third parties for marketing purposes. Under prior law, emergency\nresponse providers could sell information that identifies an individual patient\nsuch as addresses and phone numbers, prescriptions and medical history. The new\nlaw prohibits the disclosure of such information to third parties, except to\nhealthcare providers, the patient’s insurer and parties acting under\nappropriate legal authority. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
