{"id":7187,"date":"2019-08-29T15:12:31","date_gmt":"2019-08-29T19:12:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/?p=7187"},"modified":"2019-08-29T15:12:31","modified_gmt":"2019-08-29T19:12:31","slug":"wcdo-news-thursday-8-29-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/wcdo-news-thursday-8-29-19\/","title":{"rendered":"WCDO NEWS THURSDAY 8-29-19"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Delaware County Sheriff&#8217;s department announced that a\n51-year-old Town of Sidney man reported missing on June 27th was located\ndeceased on Wednesday afternoon.&nbsp; Human\nremains were discovered by utility line employees working in a wooded area near\nthe intersection of Lawton Hill Road and Franklin Depot Road in the Town of\nSidney.&nbsp;&nbsp; Deputies and Investigators\nidentified the remains as those of Byron Furman who had been reported missing\nfrom his Lawton Hill Road residence.&nbsp;\nDelaware County Medical Examiner Dr. Richard Ucci determined that Furman\ndied of natural causes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">State Police and the DOT are continuing &#8220;Operation\nHardhat,&#8221; as they try to crack down on work zone violations and promote\nsafe driving through active work zones on state highways.&nbsp; State Trooper are patrolling active work\nzones on I-81 in Broome and Route 17 in Tioga County; on Wednesday troopers\nissued 21 tickets in the I-81 work zone on Interstate 81 in Broome County, 16\nwere cell phone tickets, 2 for the Move Over Law, 2 for Moving From a Lane\nUnsafely &amp; 1 for a seat belt violation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Governor Cuomo today signed Erin&#8217;s Law on to New York&#8217;s\nbooks today.&nbsp; The law requires public\nschools to teach age appropriate child sexual abuse and exploitation prevention\nclasses to students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Erin&#8217;s Law is named\nfor Erin Merryn, who is an abuse survivor and activist against child sexual\nabuse, the law will take effect on July 1, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual\n&#8220;Bainbridge Day&#8221; this Saturday with a variety of events around the\nvillage, spokesperson Lori McGraw explains:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(Lori McGraw 8-31-19)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event runs from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM this Saturday\nthroughout the village of Bainbridge.&nbsp;\nMore information is available at 967-8700 or on the Bainbridge Chamber\nof Commerce Facebook page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Governor Cuomo signed a new law designed to spare victims of\ndomestic violence some penalties on some of their utility bills.&nbsp; The law allows people fleeing their batterers\nto terminate multi-year telephone or cable contracts at the home they&#8217;re\nleaving without paying a penalty; it covers victims who have received an order\nof protection.&nbsp; The law takes effect immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Broome County Sherriff\u2019s\nOffice is warning people about a new phone scam where people posing as law\nenforcement.&nbsp; Victims are receiving calls\nfrom a caller claiming to be a deputy &amp; that the victim missed a jury duty\nassignment and needs to complete paperwork and pay a fine to avoid being\narrested.&nbsp; The caller requests the victim\nto meet in the parking lot of the Sherriff\u2019s office and wait there to pay the\nfine.&nbsp; The Sherriff\u2019s department does not\ncollect fines and official transactions are processed inside their office.&nbsp; Anyone who has received this call should\nreport it to 778-1191, extension 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is dropping out of the\npresidential race, after she failed to make the cut for the next Democratic\ncandidate\u2019s debate next month in Houston.
