{"id":7053,"date":"2019-06-21T14:55:04","date_gmt":"2019-06-21T18:55:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/?p=7053"},"modified":"2019-06-21T14:55:22","modified_gmt":"2019-06-21T18:55:22","slug":"wcdo-news-friday-6-21-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/wcdo-news-friday-6-21-19\/","title":{"rendered":"WCDO NEWS FRIDAY 6-21-19"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chenango County Emergency Officials are dealing with a\nnumber of road problems from flash flooding, following heavy downpours over the\nlast several days.&nbsp; Norwich, Oxford,\nSmithville, McDonough &amp; Pharsalia have had numerous issues; damage was\nextensive around Oxford, including the school grounds, road closures in Oxford\ninclude Vroman Hill Road, Midland Hill Road, plus Hoben, Ryan, Brooksbank &amp;\nBradley Hill roads.&nbsp; County officials\nadvise that motorist turn around if they encounter flooded roads, and contact\nauthorities immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oneonta Authorities had to close Main Street this morning\nnear Fox Hospital, for a reported Natural Gas leak.&nbsp; The Oneonta Fire Department &amp; NYSEG Crews\nresponded after a contractor&#8217;s crew member apparently hit a high pressure gas\nline,&nbsp; Main Street has been re-opened,\nresidents who were evacuated from their homes on Hudson and Otsego Street were\nallowed to return to their homes, City Officials said that Roosevelt Avenue\nwill remain closed until further notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The State Senate passed a bill that eliminates the criminal\npenalties for possessing small amounts of marijuana, but fines may still be\napplied up to $50 for 1 ounce or less, or $200 for between 1 &amp; 2\nounces.&nbsp; The State Assembly voted to pass\nthe measure early this morning; Governor Cuomo is expected to sign it.&nbsp; Lawmakers could not get enough votes to make\nrecreational marijuana legal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Chenango Sheriff&#8217;s Department arrested 31 year old\nNicholas Redd of Norwich on several counts of criminal possession a controlled\nsubstance, he allegedly possessed prescription medication, methamphetamine and\nheroin during the traffic stop that occurred in the Town of Norwich, and he\nfaces court action at a later date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Volunteers are needed for the 2019 Chenango County Relay for\nLife, which will be held July 20th in Norwich. &nbsp;County residents wishing to volunteer can\nemail Relay.Chenango@gmail.com or contact the American Cancer Society at\n1-800-227-2345 or at cancer.org<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Delaware County Sheriff Craig Dumond &amp; the Delhi Fire\nDepartment awarded local teenager Kayleigh Verspoor with The County Sheriff&#8217;s\nDepartment &#8220;Super Star&#8221; Award and the Delhi Fire Department&#8217;s plaque\nof recognition. On Sunday, May 26th, Verspoor rescued 2 canoeists who had\ntipped over in Delta Lake in Rome while working as a counselor at Haven Camp\nfor disabled adults. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Afton Fair continues tonight &amp; Deputies arrested 32 year old Scott Russell\n&amp; 22 year old Brooklyn Stout after a complaint from the Norwich Inn, both\nare accused of using a stolen motel key to enter one of the motel rooms, they\nstayed the night and did not pay for the room.&nbsp;\nWhile in custody, a search uncovered Marihuana &amp; a controlled\nsubstance, both were released on appearance tickets for the Town of Norwich\ncourt at a later date.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NYSEG will be conducting natural gas service and main work\nlocated between 294 &amp;297 Chestnut Street in the City of Oneonta.&nbsp;
