earlier this morning.&nbsp; Flooded roads were reported at Butler &amp;\nState Streets in Oxford, there was washout damage to the grounds at the Oxford\nSchool Playground, &amp; flooding on North Broad Street in Norwich, in\nSmithville at North End Road, &amp; Chenango County Road 2 as well as County\nRoads 7 &amp; 10 in Pharsalia, County Road 7 in McDonough.&nbsp; Officials remind motorists to turn around\n&amp; seek an alternate route if they encounter a road covered with water, and\nto alert authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">State Lawmakers did not pass a\nMarijuana legalization plan as the 2019 session comes to an end.&nbsp; The bill failed to pass in the State Senate,\nState lawmakers also passed the \u201cGay Panic\u201d bill, which will no longer allow\nfor a Gay or Transgender fear excuse for those arrested for violent crimes committed\nagainst Gay or Transgender people.&nbsp;&nbsp;\nLawmakers also passed a New York Green New Deal, to address climate\nchange issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">State Lawmakers also passed a\nbill calling allowing farm workers to unionize, Assemblyman Cliff Crouch\nopposed the plan:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(Crouch 6-20-19)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Crouch said that many of the\nfarm workers are migrant workers in the state for 90 days, &amp; they tend to\nwork more than 40 hours a week in order to make as much as they can for their\nfamilies back home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oneonta police arrested 30 year\nold Alexander Coffran of Oneonta for possession of cocaine and marijuana.&nbsp;&nbsp; Coffran was reported to police for violating\nthe terms of his parole by possessing drugs in his residence, at the time that\na probation office made a visit.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nCoffran is being held in Otsego County Jail without bail pending future\ncourt action. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Congressman Anthony Brindisi\nannounced that he has secured an extra $10 Million Dollars for Department of\nDefense programs that fund NextFlex.&nbsp; The\nfunding will help the NextFlex Nodes at Binghamton University, which has\nbrought millions of dollars in economic activity to the area.&nbsp; The bill now proceeds to the US Senate for consideration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sidney High School was one of\n562 high-achieving and high-progress schools as part of the 2018-19 Recognition\nSchools, as announced by New York State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(Bill Christensen 6-20-19)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sidney was one of just 234 high\nschools statewide on the list, and the only high school in the immediate area\nto be selected.&nbsp; The bill sponsored by Senator\nJim Seward designates a portion of State Route 8 running to the newly developed\nSidney Veterans&#8217; Memorial Park as the &#8220;Sidney Veterans&#8217; Memorial\nParkway&#8221;.&nbsp; The special highway\ndesignation was requested by the Village of Sidney.&nbsp; Companion legislation sponsored by\nAssemblyman Cliff Crouch has been introduced in the state assembly.
