{"id":7020,"date":"2019-06-05T15:32:08","date_gmt":"2019-06-05T19:32:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/?p=7020"},"modified":"2019-06-05T15:32:16","modified_gmt":"2019-06-05T19:32:16","slug":"wcdo-news-wednesday-6-5-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/wcdo-news-wednesday-6-5-19\/","title":{"rendered":"WCDO NEWS WEDNESDAY 6-5-19"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">State Police arrested 25 year old John Mehne of Sarasota\nFlorida last night following an accident on I-81, which led to a manhunt.&nbsp; State Police, Broome County Sheriff&#8217;s Office\nand Binghamton Police Department responded to the area of Duell Road,\nColesville Road and Springer Road in the town of Kirkwood, Troopers accuse Mehne\nof attempted to flee the scene of the initial accident by jumping onto a van\n&amp; then into the bed of a pick-up truck, he eventually fled on foot into a\nwooded area.&nbsp; Mehne is accused of threatening\n1 person with an axe, stealing an ATV, killing a chicken &amp; a dog and was\napprehended while hiding naked in a chicken coop.&nbsp; State Police encourage residents in that area\nto check their property and call the State Police at 775-1241 if anything appears\ndisturbed.&nbsp; The investigation is ongoing\n&amp; a multitude of charges are pending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chenango County Sheriff&#8217;s Deputies arrested 26 year old\nUysef Guzman of Pennsylvania and 34 year old Heather Prince of Norwich on drug\ncharges following a traffic stop in the Town of Norwich Tuesday.&nbsp;&nbsp; Deputies seized over 220 packets of heroin,\nthat was possibly mixed with fentanyl as well as over $1,900 in cash, the\nincident is still under investigation and more arrests are expected.&nbsp; Both defendants were arraigned in the City of\nNorwich Court and were remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on\n$20,000 cash each. Both are to appear in the Town of Norwich Court on a later\ndate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The state\u2019s Medicaid program paid more than $60,000 for\nsexual and erectile dysfunction drugs and treatments for 47 sex offenders,\naccording to an audit by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli.&nbsp; DiNapoli recommended that the Department of\nHealth provide Managed Care Organization\u2019s with detailed lists of all ED drugs,\nprocedures, and supplies that are excluded or have limited Medicaid coverage;\nand take corrective actions to ensure compliance with laws, policies, and\nprocedures; and Improve Department of Health\u2019s computer system to apply sex\noffender status in the processing of claims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">New York would be the first state in the U.S. to ban the\ndeclawing of cats under legislation approved by lawmakers this session.&nbsp; The bill would subject veterinarians to\n$1,000 fines for performing the operation; it heads to the desk of Governor\nCuomo for approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Chobani Community Impact Fund is now accepting letters\nof inquiry from organizations, municipalities and school districts in Chenango,\nDelaware, Madison and Otsego counties. Police remind car &amp; truck owners to close your windows &amp;\nlock your doors, &amp; keep all valuables hidden from eye sight. If anyone sees\nsuspicious activity, they should call Sidney Police at 561-2301.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">State Police issued 13,693 tickets for impaired driving over\nMemorial Day weekend, as part of the STOP-DWI traffic enforcement period. The\ninitiative targeted impaired and reckless drivers from Friday, May 24 and\nthrough Monday, May 27.&nbsp;&nbsp; State Troopers\narrested 225 people for DWI and investigated 134 crashes, which resulted in 190\ninjuries and 4 fatalities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Governor Cuomo today announced that the 22nd Annual Cyber\nSecurity Conference continues today in Albany, bringing over 1,300 cyber\nsecurity professionals from state and local government and the private sector\nto discuss emerging developments in the industry and best practices designed to\nimprove the security of New York State.
