{"id":689,"date":"2013-03-15T13:08:06","date_gmt":"2013-03-15T17:08:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/?p=689"},"modified":"2013-03-15T13:08:06","modified_gmt":"2013-03-15T17:08:06","slug":"pm-news-friday-3-15-13","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/pm-news-friday-3-15-13\/","title":{"rendered":"PM NEWS FRIDAY 3-15-13"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>State Police have released new details about the attack that killed 47-year-old Lori Bresnahan of Liverpool and the sexual assault of a child.\u00a0 Troopers said that Bresnahan, and a 10-year-old girl were leaving a gymnastics class last night when they were accosted by a man.\u00a0 29-year-old David Renz allegedly bound the woman and raped the child inside the vehicle, and then drove the victim&#8217;s vehicle a short distance, where the child was able to escape and was found by a passing motorist.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bresnahan suffered multiple stab wounds and later died at Upstate University Hospital, the child is being treated at the hospital for her injuries.\u00a0 Renz was charged with 1<sup>st<\/sup> degree rape, 1<sup>st<\/sup> degree kidnapping, as well as 1<sup>st<\/sup> &amp; 2<sup>nd<\/sup> degree murder.\u00a0 The investigation is continuing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>New England Wood Pellet of Deposit was fined over $17,000 by the occupational safety &amp; health administration, for allegedly exposing workers to hazardous conditions at their Delaware county facility.\u00a0 Problems sited at the deposit plant include improper ventilation, lack of spark detection and extinguishing systems.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>Assembly minority Republicans voted against raising the minimum wage to $9.00 an hour this week.\u00a0 Assemblyman Cliff Crouch said that in recessionary times, it could prove to be costly:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>(Cliff Crouch 3-15-13)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Assemblyman Pete Lopez also voted no:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>(Pete Lopez 3-15-13)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The bill passed in the Assembly, but it\u2019s not expected to pass in the senate, Governor Cuomo has supported the idea of an increase in the minimum wage, but not as high $9.00 an hour.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>New York State Labor Commissioner Peter Rivera announced that New York still has nearly $4 million available in federal funding to help businesses hire long-term unemployed workers through the On the Job Training Program. Past grants are responsible for 445 businesses hiring 844 workers since 2011.\u00a0 The grant provides training subsidies of up to $23,000 per worker, they target long-term unemployed New Yorkers who have been unemployed for 20 weeks or more and go to employers to cover 50-90 percent of training-related expenses. More information is available at labor.ny.gov.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>The Chenango County Habitat for Humanity is preparing for their 2<sup>nd<\/sup> annual \u201cSouper Bowl\u201d to be held at the Family YMCA on\u00a0North Broad Street\u00a0in Norwich tomorrow.\u00a0 Officials are looking for donations of soup and bread from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. tomorrow, plus the public is invited to taste and evaluate more than 20 soup choices, and breads donated by the county&#8217;s restaurants.
