{"id":6880,"date":"2019-03-28T15:19:12","date_gmt":"2019-03-28T19:19:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/?p=6880"},"modified":"2019-03-28T15:19:12","modified_gmt":"2019-03-28T19:19:12","slug":"wcdo-news-thursday-3-28-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/wcdo-news-thursday-3-28-19\/","title":{"rendered":"WCDO NEWS THURSDAY 3-28-19"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">31-year-old Chris Nugent of Deposit was apprehended at an apartment on Court Street in Binghamton earlier this week.\u00a0 Nugent was wanted in connection with a gang assault case at the Johnson City McDonald&#8217;s in December, he was sent to the Broome County Jail.\u00a0 Nugent was charged along 4 other Deposit man for gang assault in an attack that seriously injured 2 people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell &amp; Broome County Executive Jason Garnar announced a &#8220;State Of Emergency&#8221; in the county regarding Fentanyl.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Cornwell said that there were 10 fatal overdoses in Broome County this month, some of those attributed to Fentanyl, 6 of them in the last week &amp; a half.\u00a0 Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that about 100 times more potent than morphine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">State lawmakers on Tuesday unveiled legislation designed to\ncrackdown on robocalls, blaming the federal government for failing to act on\nthe issue.&nbsp; The legislation would require\nthe use of software designed to block unwanted calls, spam calls or calls from\nrobodials meant to scam people out of money.&nbsp;\nThe measure would apply to both landline and cellphones after a\nproliferation over the last several years of robocalls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Attorney General Letitia James filed the nation&#8217;s most\nextensive lawsuit against the manufacturers, Sackler Family, and distributors\nof opioids for their role in the opioid epidemic that has taken hundreds of\nthousands of lives and devastated families and communities. The lawsuit alleges\nthat through years of false and deceptive marketing, and by ignoring their\nduties to prevent the unlawful diversion of controlled substances, these six\nnational prescription opioid manufacturers, the Sackler Family, and four\nnational prescription drug distributors are largely responsible for creating\nthe opioid epidemic that has ravaged New York, causing widespread addiction, overdose\ndeaths, and suffering. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Otsego County Chamber of Commerce announced that they\nwill be holding a job &amp; Career Fair in Cooperstown on April 17th.&nbsp; The Job Fair will be held at the Otesaga\nHotel from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, more information is available at 432-4500.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oneonta Main Street Goes Blue\ntomorrow for colorectal cancer awareness. The event takes place at Muller Plaza\nfrom 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM; it is sponsored by Cancer Services Program of the\nCentral Region and Bassett Healthcare Network.&nbsp;\nMore information is available at the Oneonta Main Street Goes Blue Facebook\npage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">31-year-old Colyn Williams of Binghamton has been charged\nwith attempted murder for allegedly stabbing a woman and the couple&#8217;s\n11-month-old son.&nbsp; The woman and child\nsustained serious injuries, &amp; were sent to a local hospital.&nbsp; Williams has been charged with second-degree\nattempted murder and first-degree assault.
