{"id":6865,"date":"2019-03-20T14:32:39","date_gmt":"2019-03-20T18:32:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/?p=6865"},"modified":"2019-03-20T14:35:06","modified_gmt":"2019-03-20T18:35:06","slug":"wcdo-news-wednesday-3-20-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/wcdo-news-wednesday-3-20-19\/","title":{"rendered":"WCDO NEWS WEDNESDAY 3-20-19"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Governor Cuomo today announced that recreational marijuana\nwill not be passed as part of this year&#8217;s State Budget, which is due on April\n1st.&nbsp;&nbsp; The Governor said that there is\nstill a chance for it to pass separately by the legislature before their\nsession ends in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Delaware County Sheriff\u2019s Deputies arrested 24 year old\nMohammed Rahman of Queens for Criminal Possession of Marihuana, Criminal\nPossession of a Controlled Substance, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Driving\nWhile ability impaired by drugs, speeding &amp; other traffic violations.&nbsp; Rahman was stopped on State Highway 268 in\nthe Town of Hancock, he was found to be in possession of more than 10 pounds of\nMarihuana.&nbsp; Rahman was arraigned at\nHancock Village Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $15,000\ncash bail pending future court action at a later date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Broome County Sheriff\u2019s Deputy on Route 79 observed a\nvehicle traveling off the road &amp; into a ditch, the vehicle continued\ndriving down the ditch for approximately 600 feet before stopping. The Deputy\nmade contact with Kristen Oropallo of Susquehanna Pennsylvania, the\ninvestigation led to Oropallo being charged with DWI; also her driving\nprivileges in New York State had been suspended. Oropallo was transported to\nthe Broome County Sheriff\u2019s Office for further processing where she refused to\nsubmit to a Breath test, she was issued several tickets to return to the Town\nof Windsor Court at a later date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oneonta Finance Director Meg Hungerford will resign from\nthat position at the end of the month.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\nHungerford has accepted a position with the Walton Central School\ndistrict.&nbsp;&nbsp; No interim director has been\nappointed by the city; they will start a search for a replacement shortly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The State Department of Transportation today announced that\npreliminary work has begun on a $1.1 million project to replace a culvert\nunderneath Dilly Road in the Town of Colesville. The new culvert will allow a\nstream to more efficiently flow underneath the road, reducing the possibility\nof erosion and enhancing safety for motorists traveling to and from nearby\nState Route 7.&nbsp; While preliminary site\nwork, including tree removal, has begun, the bulk of construction will not take\nplace until the summer to minimize disruptions to school bus routes and comply\nwith DEC stream work restrictions. Traffic will be detoured on to Martin Hill\nRoad during construction, which is expected to be substantially complete by\nSeptember. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A.O. Fox Hospital has prioritized combatting hunger as a\npopulation health improvement initiative in 2019. The hospital, in\ncollaboration with several agencies, is working to reduce local food insecurity\nwith hunger screenings and goals of establishing a new food pantry for\nemployees and a patient food pharmacy while continuing to supplement other area\nfood pantries.
