Governor Cuomo announced that the State DEC released\nproposed regulations to improve air quality and protect public health with new,\nstringent requirements on peak-use power plants. The proposal will establish\nlower thresholds for emissions of nitrogen oxides, which contribute to harmful\nlevels of ozone, or smog, on hot summer days. Dozens of simple cycle and\nregenerative combustion turbines at power plants are still in limited use across\nthe state, & they emit Nitrogen Oxides at levels that are 30 times more\nthan newer turbine emissions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
