{"id":6818,"date":"2019-02-26T14:59:09","date_gmt":"2019-02-26T19:59:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/?p=6818"},"modified":"2019-02-26T14:59:09","modified_gmt":"2019-02-26T19:59:09","slug":"wcdo-news-tuesday-2-26-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/wcdo-news-tuesday-2-26-18\/","title":{"rendered":"WCDO NEWS TUESDAY 2-26-18"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jury Selection began Monday in Chenango County Court for the\nmurder trial of Ernest Franklin.&nbsp;\nFranklin &amp; his wife Heather are accused of killing their special\nneeds son Jeffrey &amp; then setting fire to their town of Guilford Home in\nMarch of 2017, after watching a movie &#8220;Manchester By The Sea&#8221; which\ncontained a similar plot.&nbsp; Heather Franklin\nwill be tried separately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Governor Cuomo announced a proposal to remove fraud from the\nSchool Tax Relief program known as \u201cSTAR\u201d.&nbsp;\nCuomo proposes a 6-year ban imposed on those who knowingly provide false\ninformation on a STAR credit application.&nbsp;\nIn 2013, Governor Cuomo enacted reforms to the STAR program to crack\ndown on delinquent taxpayers, in 2015, the State Department of Taxation and\nFinance was authorized to recoup STAR benefits from property owners who unlawfully\nreceived those state benefits, a power that previously was held by local\nassessors.&nbsp; The STAR program provides\n$3.4 billion in relief from school property taxes, the Basic STAR benefit is for\nhomeowners with incomes under $500,000, and the Enhanced STAR benefit for\nseniors with income of $86,300 or less.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Delaware County Sheriff\u2019s Deputies arrested 57 year old\nGerald Walke of Franklin Monday on a charge of Felony Driving while intoxicated\nfollowing a traffic stop for an obstructed license plate on County Highway 21\nin the Town of Walton. Deputies allege the defendant operated a motor vehicle\nwhile in an intoxicated condition and additionally while having a prior\nconviction of Driving While Intoxicated. Walke was arraigned in front of Judge\nHall at Walton Village Court, and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail in\nlieu of $2,000 bail. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">33 year old Robert West of New Berlin was arrested Friday by\nthe Otsego County Sheriff&#8217;s department on 10 counts of failing to notify of an\ninternet change within 10 days, which is a requirement for a registered sex\noffender.&nbsp; West was remanded to the Otsego\nCounty Jail pending future court action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Governor Cuomo has removed a proposal from his executive\nState Budget plan that would have banned modified limousines, like the one\ninvolved in the fatal crash in Schoharie last October that killed 20 people.&nbsp; Cuomo may still forward a bill this session\nfor the legislature to consider regarding limousine modifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A benefit &#8220;Sock Hop&#8221;\nwill be held this Saturday, at the Sidney Elks Lodge at 5:30 PM.
