11 people were displaced following a fire at 16 Carlton\nStreet in Binghamton early this morning. \nThe fire was confined to a 3rd<\/sup> floor apartment buy Binghamton\nFirefighters, no injuries were reported. \nThe American Red Cross assisted those who were displaced by the blaze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

52 Year old James Muller of Fly Creek has been arrested by\nthe Otsego County Sheriff’s Department, for failing to notify authorities of an\naddress change, Muller is a registered sex offender.   State law gives a registered sex offender 10\ndays to report a change of address; Muller will answer to the charge in town of\nMiddlefield Court at a later date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tri Town Relay For Life will have their 2019 kick off\nevents” Carnival For A Cure” on March 6th at the Sidney Elks Lodge on\nRiver Street.  RSVP’s are requested by February\n27th at 267-0014.  The event will run\nfrom 5:30 to 7:30 PM on March 6th.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governor Cuomo launched a nationwide campaign to fight for\ntax fairness following Tuesday’s meeting with President Trump on the impact of\nthe elimination of full state and local tax deductibility, which took from 12\nDemocratic states to give to Republican states:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governor Cuomo and State Comptroller DiNapoli said that an\nupdate on State revenues from the Division of the Budget observed a decline by\n$2.3 billion in estimated payments of Personal Income Tax receipts in December\nand January, which was attributed to the federal tax legislation change which\neliminated state and local tax deductibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

State Senator Fred Akshar released the results of his latest\nonline survey regarding the proposal to legalize recreational marijuana.  Within the 52nd Senate District, 48% of\nrespondents support the proposal, 46% oppose it and 5% are undecided.  Outside of the 52nd Senate District,\nrespondents supported the measure 75% to 23% with 2% undecided.   Supporters said the legalization would increase\ntax revenues for the state, could reduce incarceration rates, Opponents cited\npotential dangers of more marijuana users driving under the influence, that marijuana\nis a gateway drug to harder drugs like heroin, along with negative affects to\npublic health and safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce is advocating for the\nrestoration of proposed cuts to Aid and Incentives for Municipal Funding in the\nGovernor’s budget proposal on behalf of Delaware County villages, towns and\nbusinesses. The Chamber has provided a draft resolution, created by elected\nofficials in Masonville, to local municipalities for adoption, asking Governor\nCuomo to stop slashing the funding, which would cut aid to Delaware County\ntowns and villages by $339,000 in the 2019-20 tax year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
