{"id":6769,"date":"2019-02-01T14:34:36","date_gmt":"2019-02-01T19:34:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/?p=6769"},"modified":"2019-02-01T17:37:10","modified_gmt":"2019-02-01T22:37:10","slug":"wcdo-news-friday-2-1-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wcdoonline.com\/localnews\/wcdo-news-friday-2-1-19\/","title":{"rendered":"WCDO NEWS FRIDAY 2-1-19"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lawmakers in Albany are expected to deal with further Gun\nSafety Legislation shortly, to be added to the 2013 &#8220;SAFE ACT&#8221;.&nbsp; Local Assemblyman Cliff Crouch said that he\ndoes not feel that more gun legislation is needed, but he is in agreement on\none aspect of it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(Cliff Crouch 2-1-19)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SAFE Act was quickly rushed through the legislature in\n2013 following the Sandy Hook School Shooting in Connecticut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fire fighters from Sidney responded to a fire at 14 East Main Street in Sidney this afternoon, shortly before 5:00 PM.\u00a0 Fire fighters at the scene told WCDO News that 1 person was in the house &amp; escaped without injury.\u00a0 WCDO News will have more details as they become available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Broome County Sheriff\u2019s Office released more information\nregarding this morning\u2019s 2-car crash involving Broome County Sheriff\u2019s Deputy\nKristy Botsford.&nbsp; The report stated that\nDeputy Botsford was driving on State Route 17 westbound with her emergency\nlights on assisting the Vestal Police Department in trying to stop a car that\nwas driving eastbound in the westbound lane.&nbsp;\nVestal Police said the suspect, Daniel Butash stopped his car on the\nhighway east of Exit 68, as police approached, he continued to drive the wrong\nway, and he drove head-on into Deputy Botsford\u2019s Patrol car.&nbsp; Deputy Botsford became pinned inside her\nvehicle, Emergency services used the \u2018jaws of life\u2019 to remove her from the car,\nand she was taken to Wilson Hospital where she was listed in critical\ncondition, she suffered a fractured right femur among other injuries.&nbsp; Butash was driving a 2018 Tesla and suffered\nminor facials injuries and cuts to his body, he was also taken to Wilson\nHospital, and Charges against him are pending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">State Police in conjunction with the State Liquor Authority\nand SUNY Delhi conducted an Underage Enforcement detail.&nbsp;&nbsp; 24 year old Codey Wood of Delhi was charged\nwith Prohibited Sale of Alcohol to a Person Under the Age of 21.&nbsp;&nbsp; Wood is an employee of O\u2019Neill\u2019s Shire Pub\non Main Street in Delhi; he was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the\nDelhi Town Court on February 19th.&nbsp;&nbsp; The\ninitiative targets the sale of alcohol to minors and utilizes a member of the\nNew York State Police and an underage undercover operative. No other locations\nin the village of Delhi were found in violation and were found to be in\ncompliance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Governor Cuomo today announced New York&#8217;s efforts to deter\nunderage drinking resulted in a record number of fake identification seizures\nin 2018. The year-round Operation Prevent initiative focuses on concert venues,\nbars, restaurants and alcohol retailers throughout the State. The State seized\n892 fake documents as part of the initiative, 922 people were ticketed for\nusing false identification or using another person&#8217;s identification.&nbsp; 18 Fake identification arrests were conducted\nin the Southern Tier, 18 fake ID&#8217;s were seized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Members from Troop C&#8217;s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit\nassist the Chenango County Sheriff&#8217;s Department with a milk truck rollover on\nCounty Route 25 in the town of Columbus. The tanker actively dumped several\nthousand gallons of milk after crashing just before 7am. The DEC spill\nresponse, County DOT and local fire department are also on scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">36 year old Matthew Mazepa of Harpursville pleaded guilty\ntoday in US District Court for selling Meth in Chenango &amp; Broome Counties\n&amp; Illegally possessing a firearm.&nbsp;\nMazepa was arrested last April by State Police, he faces sentencing on May\n21st.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">19<sup>th<\/sup> District Congressman\nAntonio Delgado has announced he will open an office in Oneonta next week.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Delgado\u2019s office will be located at 189\nMain Street and will be open 10:00 a.m. \u2013 4:00 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, as\nwell as by appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">State Police will join local law enforcement agencies across\nthe state in an effort to crack down on impaired driving during Super Bowl\nweekend. The STOP-DWI campaign will include underage drinking enforcement;\ndrivers can expect a number of sobriety checkpoints and DWI patrols. Law\nenforcement will also be looking for motorists who are using their phones and\nother electronic devices while behind the wheel.
