NEWS WEDNESDAY 2-6-13"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Governor Cuomo has called for changing of retirement costs for schools &amp; municipalities in his executive budget proposal, Assemblyman Cliff Crouch comments:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>(Cliff Crouch 2-6-13)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Schools districts and municipalities would have to opt into the program to take advantage of the estimated savings; Crouch said that the numbers would be looked at again in 5 years to see if the savings can continue.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Governor Cuomo today announced the completion of all highway-paving projects funded through the NY Works program. The program included replacing pavement at 172 sites across New York State, including approximately 2,157 miles of state roadways, as part of $229.9 million in contracts.\u00a0 Local Projects completed under the paving program include Route 17 from Hancock to Fish&#8217;s Eddy in Delaware County.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>18\u00a0stream gauges and\u00a016 rain gauges are scheduled to be deactivated on March 1<sup>st<\/sup>, unless Congress approves $215,000 to keep them in operation for another year. US Senator Chuck Schumer is once again urging NOAA to provide the necessary funding for the gauges from the\u00a0$25 million dollars the agency received after Hurricane Sandy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>The City of Norwich Youth Bureau is selling tickets for a special night of hockey on Friday evening, February 15<sup>th<\/sup>. \u00a0The Binghamton Senators will play the Syracuse Crunch at the Broome County Veteran\u2019s Arena; Tickets are on sale now at the Youth Bureau office in the Norwich City Hall for $15 each.\u00a0 A portion of the local ticket sales will help support youth programs in Norwich.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>The Sidney school district will be conducting a review and practice of their emergency management plan tomorrow.\u00a0 The review will include a lockdown &amp; lockout drill, beginning at 8:30 AM in the elementary &amp; middle school and 9:35 in the high school.\u00a0\u00a0 Normal schedules will continue following the drills.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>The Binghamton-Oneonta Building Trades Union is holding a rally to show their support for natural gas development to New York State.
