NEWS FRIDAY 5-2-14"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>State Senator Jim Seward announced that he would be hosting a free heroin\/opioid overdose prevention training class in Oneonta next week.\u00a0 Seward will be partnering with Friends of Recovery of Delaware and Otsego Counties, &amp; Otsego County Addiction Recovery Services to conduct a free training class that meets State Department of Health requirements. Participants will receive a certificate of completion &amp; a resuscitation kit that includes Narcan.\u00a0 The class will take place on Wednesday, May 7th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the FoxCare Center in Oneonta. Pre-registration is available at senatorjimseward.com\u00a0 or 432-5524.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>41% of New York residents would move elsewhere if given the chance, according to a new Gallup Poll that measured resident\u2019s interest in moving out of the state.\u00a0 The poll was conducted in all 50 states\u00a0 from June to December 2013, almost 1\/3<sup>rd<\/sup>\u00a0 said that their reason form moving was\u00a0 for work or business reasons, other reasons were for rejoining family, better weather, improved location &amp; a better quality of life.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>The New York state board of regents approved cheerleading to become a competitive sport.\u00a0 The regent voted unanimously this week, New York will join 34 other states and Washington DC to include cheerleading as sport.\u00a0 Starting in the 2014 2015 winter sports season, cheer teams will have to follow a set of coaching &amp; safety standards for the 1<sup>st<\/sup> time.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>Delaware County Sheriff\u2019s Department arrested 39 year old Thomas Carman of Sidney Center on 1 count each of criminal mischief, menacing and unlawful imprisonment.\u00a0 Carman was arrested following an investigation into a domestic dispute, he was arraigned in Town of Sidney Court and was remanded to the Delaware county jail on $5000 cash bail pending court action on May 5<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>State Police confirmed that a body was recovered from the Chenango River this afternoon.\u00a0 The body was found near the Chenango Commons Golf Course and exit 12A of I-88 at around Noon today.\u00a0 State Police will release more information as the investigation continues.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>In an effort to safeguard against future flooding events in the Catskills, Congressman Chris Gibson\u00a0 is calling on the New York City Department of Environmental Protection to make adjustments to the water levels in the city\u2019s Upstate reservoCHirs.\u00a0 Congressman Gibson sent a letter (attached) May 1 to DEP Commissioner Emily Lloyd detailing his concerns that DEP reservoir levels are at certain times of the year too high, increasing the threat of flooding during severe storms like Hurricane Irene.\u00a0 Gibson also asked the agency to consider downstream flood mitigation as a factor when making operational decisions affecting reservoirs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>The Chenango County Sheriffs Department arrested 24-year-old Matthew McDermott of Ithaca on an active arrest warrant for unlawful possession of Marijuana and Promoting Prison Contraband.\u00a0 McDermott was arrested for allegedly attempting to bring marijuana into the Chenango County jail, he was arraigned in town of Norwich court &amp; was remanded to the county jail on bail pending future court action.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>The Chenango Arts Council will hold their fundraising \u201cAllegro Run For The Arts&#8221;
