Schumer said some money from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program is currently being held back. As of November, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services only obligated $316 million of the $351 million available for state residents this winter. With cold weather across the state, he says the money should be released now

—————————

New York’s long-term energy plan focuses on increased use of renewable energy and clean technology, while reducing consumer utility bills. The plan, released this week for a 60-day public comment period, calls for expanding use of natural gas instead of oil to reduce air emissions. But it doesn’t include expanding gas production through hydraulic fracturing in the Marcellus Shale. New York has had a moratorium on fracking since an environmental review was launched in 2008. Six public hearings will be held on the plan.

————————————-

The Catskill Mountains Film Festival announced that they are accepting submissions for the festival exhibition & competition.
