Oneonta Police Department responded to a report of suspicious activity on Gilbert Street Thursday.\u00a0 Police investigated & arrested 29-year-old Jahari Brown of Utica, & 22-year-old Davon Sanders of Utica, on charges of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.\u00a0 The pair are accused of possessing 25 bags of heroin with a street value of approximately $500. Police also recovered a handgun and a loaded sawed-off shotgun.\u00a0 Both subjects were held pending arraignment in Oneonta City Court, the investigation is continuing.<\/p>\n

A gas leak inside the former Midtown Mall building at 83 Court Street in downtown Binghamton Thursday, led to an evacuation of area buildings. Workers building student housing were cutting a pipe that they believed to be inactive, when a plasma cutter ignited gas in the pipe.\u00a0 Binghamton firefighters, Police & NYSEG Crews responded, at around 11:20 AM, no injuries were reported, and evacuees were allowed back into their buildings about 2 hours later.<\/p>\n
