NEWS MONDAY 6-22-25<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Broome County 911 Center received multiple reports of a fire at the Knights Inn, at 2603 East Main Street in Endwell, at about 6:00 AM today, a total of 6 fatalities have been confirmed. Additional information, including the identities of the victims, will be released at a later time, 2 others were taken to Wilson Medical Center. over 70 residents have been displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross. A temporary shelter has been set up at the Vestal United Methodist Church. Endwell Fire Department arrived to find heavy black smoke in the front of the building and flames showing from the rear of the building. The fire spread rapidly, and multiple Fire Departments, ambulance crews and police agencies arrived on scene to assist. The New York State Office of Fire, the Broome County Office of Emergency Services, Broome County Mobile Crisis Response Team is on scene, the cause of the fire is under investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">=============================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">State Police are reminding the public to follow State laws regarding e-bikes, e-scooters, and off-road electric motorcycles. E-bikes &amp; E-scooters, Must be operated by riders 16 years or older, Helmets are required for riders ages 16 and 17, No sidewalk operation is allowed unless locally permitted, Riders must follow all traffic laws and yield to pedestrians, E-scooters limited to roads 30 mph or less. E-dirt bikes &amp; off-highway electric motorcycles are Classified as off-highway motorcycles under State law, they are Not legal on public roads, sidewalks, bike paths, or parks unless fully registered, insured, and street legal, Most recreational models do not meet these requirements, Use is limited to private property with permission Parents or guardians may be subject to a charge of endangering the welfare of a child for non compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">State Attorney General Letitia James today released guidance to help New Yorkers understand their health insurance options and avoid scams as major changes to New York&#8217;s Essential Plan take effect. Beginning July 1, 2026, New Yorkers enrolled in the Essential Plan with household incomes over 200 percent of the federal poverty level will no longer be eligible for that coverage, which translates to approximately 450,000 New Yorkers who are set to lose Essential Plan coverage. New Yorkers who enrolled in health insurance through New York State of Health can get free help renewing or changing coverage from New York State of Health-certified enrollment assistors by visiting nystateofhealth.ny.gov or calling 1-855-355-5777. NEWS MONDAY 6-22-26<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">State Police arrested 56 year old Joel Salinas of Bainbridge following a traffic stop on Chenango County Road 35 last Tuesday. Troopers observed a vehicle committing multiple violations, initiated a traffic stop, Troopers observed a sawed-off shot gun and other illegal weapons, Salinas was driving to sell the shotgun, the investigation resulted in the seizure of several other illegally possessed weapons. Salinas was charged with multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Sale of a Firearm, he was processed &amp; transported to the Chenango County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">=================================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sidney Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire with smoke and flames visible Friday night at about 7:00 PM at 826 Circle Drive, heavy smoke was showing from the ridge of the roof. Sidney firefighters launched an aggressive interior and exterior attack and contained the fire to one apartment. Assistance was provided by Masonville, Unadilla, Sidney Center, Oneonta, Guilford &amp; Harpursville fire departments, no injuries were reported, Sidney was back in service at about 8:30PM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">=============================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The National Weather Service announced that their survey teams confirmed 2 tornadoes Thursday, an EF-1 just south of Rock Stream in Yates County &amp; an EF-0 near Cortland, other locations were surveyed in Cortland County, though it was determined that strong winds were the cause of damage east of where the tornado lifted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today is the last day to register online for the Gus Macker Basketball Tournament next month in Norwich.
