NEWS FRIDAY 4-3-26<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The City of Norwich Police Department arrested 33 year old Chad Potter of Sherburne, following a multi-agency investigation into interference with public safety communications. The investigation began in March of 2021, when it was alleged that Potter unlawfully transmitted over a law enforcement radio frequencies on multiple occasions, interfering with police, fire, and EMS operations throughout Chenango County. Potter broadcast false statements, including one transmission of &#8220;shots fired, shots fired,&#8221; Potter was interviewed and admitted to transmitting over the law enforcement frequency and making the false statements, &amp; having flashing lights on his vehicle, he was charged with 2 counts of Obstruction of Governmental Administration &amp; Making a Terroristic Threat. Potter faces court action at a later date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">================================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">45 year old Bernard Barnes of Binghamton was found guilty of Grand Larceny following a Jury Trial in Broome County Court, Barnes served as an aide to an elderly individual to assist an elderly man. Family members of the victim became suspicious after a camera in the victim\u2019s room had been covered with tape, after reviewing available footage, it was determined that Barnes had re-positioned the victim\u2019s bed and accessed a safe, from which he stole approximately $14,000 worth of jewelry. Barnes is scheduled to be sentenced on July 16, 2026, in Broome County Court to 3 \u00bd to 7 years in New York State Prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">=======================================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held Saturday, from 10:30 am. &#8211; 2:30 pm., at Hartwick College, to donate blood visit RedCrossBlood.org, the Blood Donor App, or call 1-800-RED CROSS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Binghamton Rumble Ponies season gets underway tonight on the road against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. NEWS FRIDAY 4-3-26<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">State Police are warning the public, about scams where individuals are falsely told they are \u201cwanted on a warrant\u201d and must pay money to avoid arrest. Scammers are contacting victims impersonating law enforcement officers, court officials, or government agencies, The victim is pressured to make payment using cash, gift cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, or other non-traceable methods. On April 1, a victim was instructed to meet an individual who was purported to be a law enforcement officer to collect funds at a location in Bainbridge. This would have been the 3rd occasion for a sum of money to be over $100,000. After the victim handed over the cash, Troopers intervened and arrested Tushar Sharma of India for 2nd degree Grand Larceny, Scheming to Defraud &amp; Conspiracy, he was arraigned and was released on his own recognizance, and is scheduled to appear at Bainbridge Town Court on April 20th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">===========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">State Police gave an update regarding I-88, which remains closed in both directions between Unadilla (exit 10) and Otego (exit 12) due to considerable erosion under the highway in the median impacting both eastbound and westbound lanes. Emergency repairs are underway. I-88 will remain closed until New York State Department of Transportation engineers determine the roadway is safe to reopen.
