The Norwich Fire Department responded this morning to a structure fire at 50 Sheldon Street, with possible entrapment on the 2nd floor. Firefighters began to contain the blaze & the one female occupant was removed. The fire was contained to 2 rooms, and no significant structural damage was reported, the fire was under control within minutes. The cause of the fire was from careless misuse of smoking products, no injuries were reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Village of Sidney is facing budgetary issues, following the extended loss of 138 taxable properties since 2006 & 2011, Sidney Village Mayor Ray Baker told WCDO News that the budget increase is 11%, he told WCDO News what steps they are taking:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mayor Baker Said that the median household is assessed at $65,000, which equates to $140 more per year in taxes for Village property owners on average, he said that they are also looking at selling the properties across from the Golf Course as a way to get more houses on to the tax roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced the passage of the Fentanyl Eradication and Narcotics Deterrence Act, following the rise in Fentanyl overdoses & deaths, the bill increases the ability to go after the drug traffickers and seizing their assets:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Binghamton Police Department arrested 31 year old Okan Thompson of Binghamton, in connection with a shooting at an apartment at 100 Susquehanna Street on April 27. 5 others were arrested shortly after the incident, Thompson was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Reckless Endangerment and Criminal Possession of a Firearm, he was arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Jail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
